Dialpad Enables Instant, Touch-Free Access to Business Communications with Alexa Integration
San Francisco-based cloud communications provider Dialpad has made it very apparent that their ultimate mission is to rid the world of desk phones. In the era of the “anywhere worker,” Dialpad believes that desk phones are irrelevant because they chain workers to one location, limiting their abilities and flexibility to work elsewhere. That is why Dialpad is working towards disrupting business communications with their next generation phone system and solutions that empower the mobile, new-age worker.
But that’s not all Dialpad is working towards. In their bid to kill the desk phone, Dialpad is now making it possible for users to access Dialpad’s business communications capabilities without even lifting a finger. How? Dialpad recently announced its integration with Alexa, the intelligent virtual assistant service developed by Amazon that powers the Amazon Echo and the Amazon Echo Dot devices.
Pushing the Boundaries of Business Communications
Dialpad was an early pioneer in the Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) industry, and continues to set a precedence by remaining at the forefront of innovation in business communications, as is proof with their newest partnership with Alexa. The company is the first communications platform to integrate with Alexa and bring business communications into the Internet of Things (IoT).
This new capability means that users now have instant, touch-free access to Dialpad’s features (including making and receiving business calls, checking messages, adding contacts, and more) throughout their home and/or office. Users do not need to take out their smartphone, pick up their tablet, or even open their laptop or desktop computer. Users simply have to use voice commands to enable the Alexa virtual assistant to handle all communication tasks.
Brian Peterson, the Co-Founder and VP of Engineering at Dialpad, said that it has always been their company’s mission to help mobile workers get more work done faster, and integrating with Alexa only helps the company fully realize their mission. “Our integration with Alexa extends touch-free mobility anywhere inside a home or office where Alexa can hear you – without ever needing to access the physical device," said Peterson. "This is a major leap forward in how the cloud provides complete mobility for remote and mobile workers.”
Empowering the Anywhere Worker with Dialpad + Alexa
Personal assistants were previously available only to executives and other high-ranking employees; but with the addition of voice control over Dialpad via Alexa, everyone can now have access to a personal assistant -- albeit virtual -- that can instantly respond to requests. Whether a user needs to call colleagues, check voicemail, or track company-wide call analytics, Alexa can complete most communication requests in an instant.
The Dialpad features users can take advantage of through Alexa include the following:
Make a call to a contact | Put a caller on hold |
Add a contact to an ongoing call |
Record a call |
Transfer the current call to another person | Check Dialpad voicemail and text messages |
Enable and disable Do Not Disturb | Transfer a call from one device to another (for example, from Alexa to a mobile phone or a mobile phone to Alexa) |
Check Dialpad system reports and analytics, such as “total call volume for the current week” |
Vincent Paquet, the Vice President of Product for Dialpad, said integrating with Alexa helps Dialpad offer true mobility to its users. “This is true mobility in the sense that up until now, you could take your calls from any of your existing devices, but you were still required to actually have physical access,” said Paquet. “Whether it's a computer, a smartphone, a desk phone or a tablet, with Alexa we extend mobility to the last frontier so you can now make calls using Dialpad from anywhere without having to touch any of your devices.”
Alexa integration will be offered to a select group of Dialpad users starting on May 15, 2017, and general availability will be announced soon after. In addition to Amazon Alexa, Dialpad also announced their plans to integrate with multiple voice assistants soon to help ensure an outstanding user experience regardless of the communications platform or virtual assistant. Integration with Google Home, a voice-activated speaker powered by the Google Assistant, for instance, will be announced within the coming months.
