Vonage Granted New Patents Aimed at Improving VoIP Communications

Leading Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) provider Vonage was granted a number of patents in early October by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The new patents showcase a bright future for internet phone and Vonage's service. Plus, patents allow consumers to see where and how VoIP technology is advancing. - U.S. Patent Nos. 9,419,988 and 9,426,302 - security measures for both users and providers in relation to fraudulent messaging and call activity
- U.S. Patent No. 9,356,953 - security measures for the identification of "spoofed" messages, where the message's source can be identified and validated
- U.S. Patent No. 9,451,507 - mobile and messaging features in relation to communicating over a data network
- U.S. Patent No. 9,462,136 - displaying a sender's ID with outgoing messages
- U.S. Patent No. 9,444,944 - call processing features, including reconnecting two parties trying to call one another at once
- U.S. Patent No. 9,461,844 - improvements to Quality of Service
On top of this, in May of this year, Vonage was also granted seven other patents by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. These patents encompassed everything from Communications Platform as a Service (CPaas) to Unified Communications as a Service (UCaas) to Quality of Service (QoS). Chief Legal Officer Kurt Rogers had this to say about these new patents and technology advancements:
"Our most recent patents broadly cover unique features applicable to Communications Platform as a Service, enabling developers and enterprises to embed contextual communications into websites, apps and business workflows. Using CPaaS solutions, businesses are able to increase customer engagement by seamlessly providing direct, relevant and actionable communications to their customers across any mode of communication, on any platform, from text, to chat app, to social media, to voice."
In total, the company currently owns the rights to 132 different patents, with over 200 patent applications pending. Their patents cover a wide range of telephone products and technologies like extensions, virtual telephone numbers, toll-free numbers, mobile, business desktop, and more in addition to their domestic and international calling plans.
