Editorial Review

An established name in the telecommunications industry, Vonage provides powerful residential VoIP services that are affordable and easy to set up. They offer four home phone plans that are flexible and loaded with all the right features to let users stay in touch no matter where they are in the world.

Four Flexible, Feature-Packed Home Phone Plans

Residential VoIP customers can choose from four phone plans: Vonage North America, Vonage World, U.S. & Canada 400, and Vonage 3000 To Globe Philippines. For as low as $9.99 per month (for a full year contract), users can enjoy over 25 calling features (such as SimulRing, Three-Way Calling, Voicemail, and Call Forwarding) that come free in all plans. Users can also choose to add more features (such as a Dedicated Fax Line and Virtual Number) to enhance their plan.

Take Your VoIP Service with You

Vonage understands that people are increasingly on the go today. This is why all Vonage calling plans come with the Vonage Extensions App. This lets you make and receive calls using your smartphone as if you were at home.

Be aware: Cancel contract cost. the customer service is the worst he said that if I want to cancel the service. I have to pay over $200 because of the contract I didn't recognize, and when I want to see the contract that I've signed he avoided the question and said that he will requested it and then he just hung up on me and never call or contact back.

NO CUSTOMER SUPPORT. Beware, you will loose business as I did. We depend on communications through the phone. If you are a business, DO NOT MAKE THIS MISTAKE OF GOING TO VONAGE BUSINESS. Go with other companies instead. For as big as this company is, it is Very Poorly managed.

I have been with Vonage for 17 years and everything worked as advertised. Then without warning Simulring and Call Forwarding no longer works outside of a few countries. I rely on this service which they just cut off. But Vonage does not care. They say well its just what it is and to basically f*off. They are awful people with a terrible attitude. Vonage cannot be trusted

All the pros are gone because Vonage has summarily switched off features

We operate a small business and was looking to change providers upon moving into a new office space. On speaking with the Vonage sales representatives, we were promised that Vonage would work great with our setup (wireless network). After spending funds and time to switch to Vonage and order their phones, we discovered that their system did not in fact work with a wireless system. On numerous occasions we had attempted to contact Vonage to resolve the situation and get phones that worked with a wireless system as originally promised. Our messages were ignored. Finally, a sales rep offered to fix the situation and send us wireless phones as originally promised... if we upgraded our contract! Future attempts to contact Vonage were ignored. There are much better services out there that cost less and offer better customer support. Avoid Vonage at all cost!!

I have been a Vonage Customer since 2007. I worked as a civilian for the
Department of the Navy when I purchased Vonage and have taken my Vonage
module everywhere I have worked/lived both in the U. S. and overseas. I have
retired in Lima, Peru and I can tell you Vonage has been a great
product/service from day one! My last 3 years working for DoN, I lived in
East Africa and it was great to be able to have my wife and friends contact
me, as well as myself contacting them, with the same clarity as though we
were next door to each other.

Anytime I've wanted to change a Service Plan, only a couple of times, the
Vonage Customer Service Personnel have been outstanding. A+ service! Frankly,
I cannot imagine why anyone working abroad would not purchase Vonage as their
phone service. I have used Vonage in overseas areas where the internet
connectivity was no more than 1 meg and still the transmissions can through
as though the people I was talking to were across the street.

Just a great product and great all around service!

I have had Vonage for 7 years and I must say I am probably one of the few who never had a problem that was not resolved in one call. I have the same device and pretty much know what to do when a problem arrives. My problem is they are charging a lot of money compared to all other VOIP providers. Price is a big factor today as people use there home phones less and rely on cell phones more. Vonage was having a sale and they are going to charge all new subscribers $9.99 a month for one year. So I called and asked I have been with you all these years and how about giving this deal to me. I was sent an E Mail and told that I could offer me a $14.99 a month deal. I have to say I was a bit shocked as a 150-250 minute a month user I would have thought they would love to get me locked into a higher plan after a year and keep a long term customer. So now I am with basic Talk at a total of $13.70 a month. The call quality is just as good

I cannot really say how good CS is as I have not had to use it. I have been using VOIP since 2006 and pretty much know what to do. I do miss call forward as now I have to give out my cell # as an alternate and add my cell # to my message this also solves the internet down problem. Before if the call was to my home it just rang on my cell also. But for over a $20 a month saving I will live with it. I switched from Vonage as they are getting up there in price.

Cheap Have for a few weeks and like it The porting was done in 3 days.

Vonage ad says unlimited international call and to more than 60 countries.
It is subject to residential usage which is 3000 mins only and few countries only land line calls are free otherwise all are charged. Plan will be changed to power user plan for minimum 3 months which is $65.69 per month . They will let you to disconnect the service but they charge you early termination fee around $100.
I took $9.99 plan and paid only for 3 months but it was changed to power user plan $65.69 , I happened to disconnect the service but they charged me $85.13. Customer service is poor , they give you 0 promise.
I sent mail to [email protected] but no response till date. Beware of Vonage. They will make you look a like fool.

The Skinny

When it comes to residential home phone service, Vonage offers three different plan types to suit your calling needs: Vonage North America, Vonage World, and U.S. & Canada 400. Vonage North America is their newest plan, and gives subscribers unlimited calling using either your home or mobile phone across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. The Vonage World plan (their most popular offering) includes unlimited calling to more than 60 countries, on top of unlimited calling to mobiles in 10 countries. The U.S. & Canada 400 plan is catered towards residential customers who only need limited minutes, yet still want a VoIP-powered residential phone system. It comes with 400 included minutes, with a low per-minute charge thereafter.

the rub

The Rub

Vonage World is their most popular plan, and rightfully so: it meets all the needs of today's consumers for one low price. Choosing their one-year agreement promotion can help you secure only $9.99/mo. for the first six months, with $27.99/mo. thereafter. Plus, it also includes free shipping and free activation! The plan includes unlimited local and long distance calling on top of unlimited talk to more than 60 countries (see provider's site for details). Additionally, the Vonage World plan includes unlimited calling to mobile devices in 10 countries. And as always, calling other Vonage subscribers is free! The plan also includes 25+ features, the Vonage Extensions app, and a mobile app.

bottom line image

Bottom Line

If you're looking for affordable and unlimited local, long distance, and international calling, Vonage has the plans for you. Their included feature set covers all bases, giving users the tools they need to effectively manage their calls, voicemails, and more. They have seniority in the VoIP business, and are very competitively priced with other providers in their market. They even let you port your existing number for free, or give you the option to select a new phone number from an area code you choose.

Our Two Cents

Simply put, Vonage brings together price, features, and customization in their residential plan offerings. They are an established provider in their field, and have the experience in delivering a high-quality product. Their residential plans help make domestic and international calling affordable, all for low monthly rates. Plus, you have the ability to customize your residential phone system by adding toll-free numbers, virtual numbers, a dedicated fax line, and more. And their award-winning Vonage Extensions app lets you take your home phone anywhere and use your smartphone to call.
