MagicJack GO Install Overview
In the past, there were a few problems that people ran into when attempting to install their magicJack device, but with their new application, many of those problems have been eliminated. There are two options to choose from when registering your magicJack GO: go to the website www.mjreg.com or hook directly to a computer via USB. When registering by plugging into your computer, there will be a software application that will have to be downloaded to your PC. However, this can be avoided if you choose to register through the website. Going to the website will allow you to register and set up your magicJack GO without having to go through installing everything on your PC.
Compared to past magicJack devices, the magicJack GO has a simple installation, and it has been able to help eliminate many of the problems people have had when trying to register and install their magicjack devices, in the past. The only thing required to get your magicJack Go up and running properly is a high speed internet connection and an understand of basic computer applications. In the past, people found that installing and registering their magicjack device was complicated, and they would often times have to contact customer support to get it working properly. GO Preferred Activation Method Without a Computer
Most people find that activating the magicJack GO is easier without using a computer. Below are the steps you should follow in order to set up your GO in this fashion.
The first step to hooking up your GO device is to plug the ethernet cable that is provided with the device into the "internet" port that is located on the magicJack GO device. Before moving to the next step, you want to be sure that you hear a 'click'. This will indicate when the cable is securely plugged into the device.

You should hear the same click with the RJ phone jack cable as you did with the ethernet cable, in both locations, when it is securely plugged in.
Once the GO is plugged into the home phone jack and the router, properly, you will need to connect the magicJack GO directly into the power adapter that is included or by using the extension cable for USB usage, that was also included in the package.
After connecting the GO to the power adapter, you will need to plug the power adapter cord directly to the closest outlet.
Finally, you are ready to setup your magicJack GO. For this step, you will need your computer. You can do this step on a MAC or PC. You can also complete this step on a smartphone or tablet, if you do not have access to a computer. Visit www.mjreg.com, which is the MJ Register website and prepare to follow the prompts that appear. In order for this process to work, you will need to have whatever device you are using the website on connected to the same internet connection as the GO. On the website, you can choose to transfer your existing account or create a new one, if this is your first magicjack device. However, there have been some people reporting that they have had issues registering their GO device in this way. If this happens do not worry. There are a set of alternative instructions below to help with instalation, which will require using a computer with a working USB drive.
Alternative Way to Install the magicJack GO Using a Computer
If you choose to follow this method of activation, the first that is required is to connect your GO device into your computer, using the USB drive cable that was included in the package. After the cable is plugged into the computer, you should see a small dialog box in the lower right part of your screen, letting you know that a device is being installed on your PC. You can ignore this message, because when you plug it into the PC, it will automatically start to install the software on your PC.
After a moment, you will see a small dialog box pop up on your screen. It should have a button that says "Start magicJack". Click on this button, and the automatic installation process will start.
Once the button is pushed, the magicjack logo should appear on your screen. This will begin to load the installation application, which may take a few minutes to full load.
After the application finishes loading, you will notice a software application icon appear on your desktop, but it should open automatically. If it doesn't open automatically, you can double click on the icon on the desktop to start up the application.
Once the application opens, you will see the magicJack software interface appear on your screen. It will have a dial pad on the screen, and there will be various changing text that also appears. Once the dial pad is visible on your screen, the registration of your device will begin.
Next, you need to look in the lower pane on the application window. You will see an area that is purple and blue. You can click on the blue box, which will provide you 30 minutes of free time or 48 hours, whichever happens first, to test with outgoing calls, to make sure that the device is working properly, or you can choose the purple area. The purple area will allows the device to go ahead and be registered, and you will be assigned your phone number. To choose this option, click the words "Or click here to register now and get a phone number", in the purple area.
Once this is done, the screen will change in the software application, and it will allow you to choose between registering a new account or to use your previous magicjack login, if you already have an existing account. If you already have an account, you will want to use your login credentials, but for those that are new users, follow the next steps.
After clicking on the area, the software application will load the magic jack login page. Here you will see two options: Log In or Create My Account. If you have an account, just log in with your information. However, to set up a new magicJack VOIP account, just click on the button, "create my account".

The application will then load up the create an account page with a fill in form. Here, you will need to fill in some information, like your name, email, address, and you will need to create a password. While filling in the information, look to the right side of the page. Here, you should see a little icon that says "device detected", and it should have a green check mark on the picture of the device. This has to be there or the application will not allow you to proceed with your creation. However, if it is just fill in all of the information and then click "create my account" again, which will take you to the next step in the setup process.
This is where you will name your device. You can name your device anything, because it is not really important in the long run. You will be the only one that is able to see it. After you have given your device a name, you will click the "send my code" button in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. This will send an activation email to the email that you provided in the previous form.
At this time, you will need to alt tab to your email and check for the code. It could take a couple of minutes for this email to appear in your inbox. Once it does, you can copy and paste the code into the box on the application screen that should have loaded on the interface. Once you have entered the code, you will click on the "activate my device" button. This will trigger terms of service page for magicJack usage to appear on the next page for you to review.
It is important to read the terms, either USA or Canada that applies to you. magicJack has a few strange terms and conditions that can limit who and what numbers you are able to call. Once you agree to this, just click on the "I Agree" box and then click the "continue" button. This will trigger the application to move forward with the setup process.
A pop-up will appear on the following screen informs you that you have received $10 in magicDollars, which can be used towards porting your number, selecting a customer phone number, or making international calls. In most cases, you can click on the X at the top right of the pop up, because you can still use the credit later on. However, if you wish to port you number, you can go ahead and use them at this time.
After exiting out of the pop-up screen, you will be on the page that allows you to set up your new phone number. Here, you will have a few different options. You can choose from a FREE US number, or you can choose to pay $10 for one of three other options: Port in old number, Canadian number, or a U.S. Vanity number. After you choose an option, you will choose the state, area code. You can also pick the first four numbers that will make up your phone number. It is important to remember that when doing this, you are not limited to the area that you live in, like with a regular home phone line. For instance, if your friends and family reside another area or state, you can set up your number to appear with a number that matches home, which will allow your friends and family to call you without incurring long distance charges. The only restriction to choosing the area code is that it does have to match the chosen state. So, if you want a number from a different state than where you live, you will need to add that state in the above option, for it to accept it. Once all of this is done, you will click on the button that says, "Add To Cart To Continue", and this will move you forward in the process.
On the next page, you will be asked to enter your 911 address. If you chose another state and area code than where you live, this will allow for emergency services to see your physical address. This address should be the address where the magicJack Go device is going to be plugged in or used at. If you are not from the US, you will need to pick the option of not living in the US, and then you will click the "confirm" button. This will send you to a confirmation screen, and you will need to check the "Yes" box. Once it is checked, click on the "submit" button, which will move you to the next setup screen.
The next screen will give you the option of choosing a service plan. It is recommended to hit the skip button, because you can go back and choose a service plan at any time. It is important to make sure that you are going to enjoy the device and keep it before paying for an actual plan. However, if you prefer to go ahead and sign up, you can choose between a 1-year plan for $25 or a 5-year plan for $120. On this screen special offers are not provided. That is another reason why you might wish to hit the "Skip for Now" button, because there might be a special later, and you automatically receive a full 12 months of service with the purchase of your magicJack GO device.
The next screen will allow you to add credit to your account in order to make international calls. This step can also be skipped. It is recommended to just go back and add credit to your account when and if you ever decide or have the need to make an international call. In order to skip this section, you just have to click on the "Skip for Now" button, and you will be able to continue in the setup process.
This screen will provide you will all of the order information that you set in place during the registration process. Unless you added credit or chose a different type of number than the US free number, the total price on this screen should show $0. After reviewing the order to make sure everything is correct, you will click on the "Place Order" button to move on.
This will bring you to the final screen of the setup application. It will provide you with your new phone number, and you can pick between a few different options in order to continue. It is important to jot down your phone number for future reference. If you are planning on leaving the device connected to your PC, you will click on the "Close Window And Start making Calls Immediately With Your PC". However, most people will click on the other button, "Click To Exit Application And Use Without Your PC". This will allow you to setup your device without having it connected to your PC.
At this time, the application will appear on the screen with showing the dialpad it started up with. However, you will see that your address is now in the bottom of the screen. You can set up your voicemail. You will see a yellow 911 symbol next to your address. This just means that your address has not been verified. However, after a few days, it should turn Green if you are within the United States. If you are not, the icon will show up black, which means that you are not in the US and do not have access to 911 service. However, if you are in the US, and the icon turns red, you should contact customer support, because sometimes the 911 address has to be entered into the computer a certain way for it to register, and customer support can help with this to make sure you have access to your 911 service.
Now, you are ready to remove your magicJack GO from your computer. You will need to wait for a couple of minutes. It can take up to 5-10 minutes for the application to recognize the fact that you removed the GO device from your PC. However, once the application catches up, a small white box will appear, and it will tell you to insert the device, in order to make calls. All you need to do is click the X at the top of the box and continue on with the setup instructions for the magicJack GO to be used without a computer.
Setup And Use Finalization Steps
At this point, you should have copleted the registation process for your magicJack Go device by using the installation software. The next process is to set up the device to work without your computer. The steps are fairly simple, and they are:
You need to connect your magicJack GO device to the power adapter that came with the device with the USB port and the USB cable that was also provided, upon purchase.
Once the device is connected to the power adapter, you should connect it to either your router or modem with the provided ethernet cable. You accomplish this by plugging one end of the cable into the ethernet port on the device and then into an ethernet port on your router or modem.
Next, you need to plug whatever phone you plan on making calls with to the device with the RJ11 phone jack cord into the port on the device.
Once everything is securely plugged in, you can plug the power adapter into a power source, either an outlet or surge protector. There should be a blue light appear that is solid, and there should be a blinking white light, also. If you see both of these lights, then it means that your GO device is ready to start making and receiving calls over the internet.
Your magicJack GO device should now be fully operational. It might seem long and winded, but this guide was designed to help you from start to finish, and each step takes very little time.
