I've read many of the reviews and some seem to be company plants and some are unrealistic expectations from customers. If you want 99.999% availability, stick with your landline. If you want 95+%, Vonics is good. Occasionally I answer and get no audio. Service was down for a few days when they added new international numbers, but I did get voicemail.
Voicemail indicator and voicemail via e-mail have worked well. The MTA has been flawless, much better than my cable service.
Service was overwhelmed when SunRocket went under. I now get responses to e-mails, but days late after the problem has resolved. For $12.99 a month, I think it is a very good value and recommend it with the above caveats to friends and family.
Iterating, the service is not perfect and the cost is low. One gets what one pays for, and my experience has been good value for the money and I will stay with Vonics at the end of my year.
I haven't had service for a week now and I can't Vonics customer service to respond. Prior to this my service has always been a little flaky, but for the price I can live with a few issues - as long as it works. One common problem I've had is when someone calls me my phone rings and I answer but the call doesn't connect. If they call right back the call will usually connect on the second try. The sound quality has been pretty good and the service is a bargain - when it works. My service quit a week ago and I can't get in touch with anyone at Vonics.
We've been using Vonics for 7 months. The sign-up process went very smoothly, but it's been a nightmare afterwards. Inbound calls don't get through half the time. Outbound calls connect more often, but the quality is sometimes really poor. We are constantly resetting the VoIP gadget. If I had to do it all over again, I would pay more for more reliable service. As it is, we're in a 2-year prepaid plan and we're not sure if we want to risk losing all our money (what are the chances that they'll refund the unused portion?). You get what you paid for.
I was duped eight months ago by stellar reviews on Vonics posted on this site, which in hindsight must have been faked. We signed up and immediately started noticing problems. We'd hear from friends and colleagues that they couldn't get through when calling. When I called our number, it would take a couple of tries just to connect, and when someone answers, I couldn't hear them talking. We would constantly have to re-set the VoIP box by unplugging it and then replugging it. Contacting customer service about this has been no help, either. This service is extremely unreliable, and we're wondering what to do, since we signed up for 2 years prepaid and would probably face an uphill battle for a refund if we canceled now. But that might be a better option than an unreliable phone service.
Don't do it! This is the WORST COMPANY I have ever been with and I have had my share! After Sunrocket went under, Along with all the others, I switched to Vonics out of a PANIC! I shouls have kept looking. Phone service was not good most of the time and not only that you had to keep restting the box. Customer Service???? What the heck is that??? They have NONE! Kept charging my credit card. I had called, emailed, put in a service ticket. I did not think to fax, because after all, if they are not answering the phone, who knows where the heck the fax is going. They are still charging my credit card, but I have stopped that too. I called the credit card company and had them take the charge off.
I have been with Vonics for 6 months now. I have had service disruption at least once a month. The time on Caller ID has never worked correctly either. As a matter of fact, as of now I still have no service since yesterday. E-mailed them 5 times and I still have no dial tone. I would have switched if it wasn't because I prepaid for the whole year. I might just forfeit the remaining 6 months and switch, who knows.
I you want to have constant problems, and no telephone service this is the company for you.Their lack of service is exceeded only by their lack of service.
I've been with vonics since August 2007. They are terrible. I never got my number ported. Emails were never answered. And for the past month phone calls ring but get dropped as soon as I answer. That or people are given a fast busy and can't even leave a message. I can, however, make calls just fine - unless the VOIP is down which has happened several times.
After getting horrible service from Teleblend and then getting screwed by Packet8 I decided to try Vonics VoIP. I was concerned about some of the negative reviews posted here, but I was assured by the sales rep that these reviews were posted at the time of SR demise and they were overwhelmed with calls and were not prepared however, the problems have been rectified since then. I was one of the SR victims. I was happy with SR for two years. It’s too bad they went out of business. The Vonics deal was very tempting and looked better than what I had with SR. I got two lines for the same cost and under two hundred dollars for the whole year of service. I just refuse to pay seventy dollars a month for a home phone line.
So far I am very impressed with the service quality and the support I have received from this relatively unknown company and till recently I had never heard of Vonics. They don’t screw you with hidden charges after the annual signup like Packet8. Those guys are unbelievable. Make sure you do your homework before you sign up with any VoIP provider and look at all the monthly charges. Vonics is missing some features I had with SR, but overall it’s been a great service. They also use the same Gizmo like SR so it was really easy for me to set it up. Vonics initially assigned the wrong prefix number or as they refer to it as rate center, but that was irrelevant since I was going to port my own number over.
I recommended few friends and family who were also X- SR customers to Vonics and they are all happy with the service as well. I recommend Vonics to anyone looking for a good replacement for SR.

Read the fine print with these folks. Canceled service & they kept charging my credit card.
Customer service and quality was atrocious. Plenty of other providers out there. These guys stink. I'm using another company now and they're much better.
Not worth the headaches.
