Ordered up the VOIP stuff a couple of weeks ago. Intial price couldn't be better, everything you need for their service was free, and was shipped free. I started out at the $14.97 plan, becuase I'm not expecting to use more than 100-200 minutes a month of outgoing calls.
Started the port process immediately from my Comcast Digital Voice number. I was told I would receive an email when the port was complete. When I got my equipment, I decided to just wait until my number was ported successfully before hooking anything up. I just found out today from friends and relatives that my phone has not been working for about 5 days, so the number did port, but I did not receive the email as expected.
So, this morning I frantically tried to get the service going. I have a Comcast internet and digital phone box combo, plus a wireless router. Needless to say, I'm not so great with this stuff. I can follow specific directions, but when it doesn't work as planned, I have trouble. I couldn't get the system to work with the included directions, becuase I have a little more complicated stuff than what the directions were for. Tech support line as busy. I had also been double billed for my first month of service, so I called regular customer support. The several times I've spoken with them, they have been absolutely superb!
Customer support is elite. People actually answer the phone, and they are American and easy to understand (no outsourcing here). Polite, helpful, joking: Seriously, the best customer service I've seen in quite awhile. So, the few negatives I've experienced have been more than made up for with the great help.
When I mentioned to the CSR that tech support was busy after he credited my double billing, he gladly helped me with some tech support. After some simple, straightforward directions (for a technically challenged person like myslef), they helped me hook up their box, my old Comcast modem/phone box, and even my wireless router.
So far I'm also greatly impressed with the features available from the My Account section at their website. I'm definitely a website user, and even though their format is a little too simple and outdated looking, the services available online are great for me. You can see call history immediately, practically no delay. You can set all sorts of features online. My favorite is that I get an email anytime anyone leaves a message at my voicemail, and I can then actually listen to it right on my computer, through the email, or through the account history. I'm one of those that never checks my messages because my answering machine seems so archaic. Love listening online!
So far I've had no problems with quality in less than one day of using it. No static, no problems. I'll make sure to post if there's any sort of problem.
Moral of the story? Seriously, if you have any questions or concerns, call and find out what great customer service really is. I'm guessing they'll do anything to help you if it's at all possible!
