Vonage Business Reviews

Vonage pushed VoIP into the mainstream and has been a pioneer in the business communications industry since. True to its roots as a technology disruptor, Vonage has embraced technology to transform how companies communicate to create better business outcomes.

Developed back in early 2000, the service was first introduced to US consumers in partnership with Circuit City in 2004. Vonage was created by Jeff Pulver, an internet pioneer and investor, who previously created one of the first ever Voice over internet applications, known as Free World Dialup.

Vonage has grown extensively since its humble beginnings, and the provider went public in 2006. Ever since, Vonage has been innovating their platform, and expanded into the Business VoIP market by acquiring Vocalocity in 2013. Vonage grew their business service into a powerful cloud-first platform that enables users to collaborate virtually anywhere, any way.

Vonage has also expanded their platform beyond business phone solutions. By acquiring Nexmo back in 2016, Vonage brought together their robust unified communications solution with the agility of embedded, contextual communications APIs. This powerful combination enables businesses to collaborate more productively and engage their customers more effectively across messaging, chat, social media, video and voice.More recently, Vonage has also partnered with Amazon to include their Chime solution in their Vonage Business Cloud platforms.

Editorial Review

Vonage’s Business Cloud is one of the strongest offerings for SMB organizations looking to gain an entire Unified Communications platform that enables users to connect via voice, chat, text messaging or even video. Pricing is competitive, with plans tailored to fit specific needs and requirements, and month-to-month contracts are available as well.

Plans and Features Tailored to Your Business

What’s unique is Vonage’s separation between a Mobile and Complete plan. The Vonage Business Cloud Mobile Plus is designed for small companies that do not require desk phones and would rather utilize their Vonage service either on their computer, or a smartphone. This is great for remote teams, as well as smaller organizations, that are always on the go. This plan includes more than 40 powerful business phone features like a virtual receptionist, and voicemail to email.

For larger organizations, Vonage Enterprise provides hybrid network and bring your own broadband options with SD-WAN, elevated quality of service for all communications, even more advanced features, and deep integrations with mission-critical business applications like CRMs and WFOs. Vonage Enterprise is also built on top of a dedicated nationwide MPLS network, along with powerful features like visual voicemail, enterprise-grade conferencing for up to 300 participants and even call center functionality. Your business can completely tailor the solution with the features they need, instead of paying a price that includes features that will never be used.

As an added bonus, and a bit of a unique offering in the market, Vonage Business Cloud also includes a free subscription to Amazon’s Chime solution, providing users with another platform for collaboration including online meetings, video conferencing and team presence and chat. Their Nexmo platform is another example of how Vonage has expanded beyond phones. Nexmo enables business to engage customers across messaging, chat, social media, and voice – so things like sending verification messages or outbound marketing campaigns.

Overall, Vonage Business is a strong choice for any organization that is looking for a tailored approach solution, while still maintaining the flexibility and scalability of a cloud solution. Vonage manages to include an impressive feature set into a cost-effective, custom solution for every business, and their platform extensions like Chime and Nexmo help round out Vonage’s offerings to be much more than just Business VoIP.

My law firm just recently signed up with Vocalocity after our old phone system bit the dust. Since we are relatively small we were looking for a modestly priced phone solution that could give us a great deal of functionality and features. Vocalocity has given us all of the above. We are saving money compared to our old phone system and we have a feature set that is constantly being updated and improved upon, you can’t get that with an in-house phone system. We love the service and would recommend it to any business owner.

After the end of last year my company decided that we needed to re-evaluate our overhead expenses due to the down economy. One of the top priorities was our phone system. A number of us were familiar with voip and believed that the technology had improved to the point such that you could not notice a difference between a voip connection and a traditional phone connection. We shopped around and found Vocalocity to be the best fit for us. Since we only have thirteen employees in the office we knew that a hosted solution would be the best, which Vocalocity offers. As well, we are in and out of the office a good deal, so having features like “follow me” and “voicemail to email” are crucial to us conducting business. Vocalocity has added a great deal of value to our small company and I believe that it can do the same for many others.

Vocalocity is simply wonderful! I run a small, five person, consulting firm in Memphis, TN and we have been using Vocalocity since we opened shop about two and a half years ago. When we first signed up the service was clearly still experiencing some growing pains. But after we had been with Vocalocity for five or so months, the little glitches cleared up and the service has been great since. We particularly like the new dashboard that they recently released; it’s extremely helpful for monitoring call activity. Hands down, Vocalocity is the best voip service out there.

About nine months ago my wife and I decided to open up our own graphic design shop. We had both been in the graphic design business for over 25 years combined and decided that we could run a more efficient firm than the one we were working for. Needless to say with the downturn in the economy we were forced to find ways to reduce our operating costs. Since most of our jobs are locally based we frequently have clients calling the office and coming in. Since we cannot afford a secretary/office assistant we needed to find a phone system that could route calls for us; Vocalocity was the solution we came to. We looked at a number of voip providers such as Packet8 and Nextiva, but neither of them offered the full range of service that Vocalocity offered. Since signing up with Vocalocity we have seen a great cost savings from the service and it has not caused us a single headache. Our biggest reservation was that voip call quality was sub-par to that of traditional phone lines. This problem has not presented itself once; our call quality has been great. We highly recommend Vocalocity to any small business owner who is in the market for a new phone service.

Over 2 years ago I signed up for VoIP phone service with Aptela. At first the service worked alright with only a dropped call here and there. After about three months I began to experience a large amount of dropped and static-filled calls. I repeatedly called Aptela for help and got the stereotypical run-around of different people to call for a couple of weeks before I actually got the problem resolved. Well the same problem happened all over again which made me decide to cut ties with Aptela. Before I discontinued my service I did my homework to make sure that I had found a suitable replacement service and that turned out to be Vocalocity. The salespeople whom I spoke with were very knowledgeable and in no rush to force a service down my throat that I had no need for. I have been with Vocalocity for about 15 months now and could not be more pleased. The service is reliable and if you ever do encounter a problem, the support staff is incredibly helpful getting it resolved. Vocalocity is a great option if you are in need of an affordable phone system.

Vocalocity has exceeded our expectations. Everything has worked as expected; setup has been simple; the sound quality is amazing. VoIP hosted PBX should sound the death knell for the big phone companies in terms of what they can offer a small business. AT&T was charging a fortune and providing us with 3 lines that roll--a typical small business scenario. With Vocalocity, every extension has the capability to handle 4 calls at a time, voice mail goes to email, we can transfer calls, etc., etc. And all that at a fraction of what AT&T has been charging us. Everyone at Vocalocity has been helpful. It took just one week for our number to be ported. New phones have arrived extremely quickly. We just could not be happier with everything. I've read a number of bad reviews and can only assume that--if things were as bad as those reviews painted it, then Vocalocity has really stepped it up. I have nothing bad to say--at all!

I said I would never write a review but I just had to after this morning. Vocalocity introduced a new dashboard for all of its customers this morning and it is awesome.  I can monitor all of my extensions activity and who each line is connected to.  It is a great new feature that I can already tell will help us further streamline our sales-force.  I can now manage my people so much more efficiently by being able to monitor activity in REAL TIME! I love the new feature, can’t wait for more to come!

We used to have an in-house PBX at our law firm and it broke… Seeing as how we had not looked at the thing in years and really did not know what to do with it we decided to re-evaluate our phone system.  After considering the options we decided that VoIP was the way to go for cost savings and after a little more digging we found that some providers even host the hardware, how brilliant! Vocalocity had a solid sales pitch and we got exactly what they told us they would give us; a reliable and up to date phone system at a minimal cost.  It took us a long time to realize how much we were wasting with our old system, so if you sound like you might be in a similar situation, check Vocalocity out.

Vocalocity is just great. The sales staff was very knowledgeable and they did not try to sell me anything beyond what I needed. I liked the fact that they let me demo the user interface, some other providers would not let me do that which seemed suspicious. The pricing is good and comparable to its competitors but I see value in the features and the quality service, I am very happy with Vocalocity.

I started a health products distributorship about three years ago and chose Packet8 as my phone solution.  That was a huge mistake. I changed over to Vocalocity about ten months ago and all my phone systems headaches have gone away as a result.  I am always able to get tech support when I need it and the system is extremely easy to use (big plus for someone who is not tech savvy).  I have a DSL internet connection, which I thought was going to cause some problems but it has worked just fine with the system, I would highly recommend Vocalocity to any small business owner.

The Skinny

Vonage Business (formerly Vocalocity) provides a reliable business VoIP phone service for small and mid-sized businesses. Founded in 2001 by Jeffrey A. Citron, Vonage is one of the largest cloud communication companies that offers both solutions to both businesses and residences. The company offered the first ever VoIP platform for 911 calls in 2003, and worked alongside Circut City to be the first to offer VoIP services nationwide in retail stores in 2004. From then on, Vonage's VoIP offerings have steadily increased, and included WiFi phone, virtual numbers, visual voicemail, and more. The company even acquired three key VoIP patents from Digital Packet Licensing Inc in 2006.

Most recently, Vonage extended their reach into the mobile world and released the Vonage Mobile® App, now compatible with the Apple Watch.
