Vonage Business Reviews

Vonage pushed VoIP into the mainstream and has been a pioneer in the business communications industry since. True to its roots as a technology disruptor, Vonage has embraced technology to transform how companies communicate to create better business outcomes.

Developed back in early 2000, the service was first introduced to US consumers in partnership with Circuit City in 2004. Vonage was created by Jeff Pulver, an internet pioneer and investor, who previously created one of the first ever Voice over internet applications, known as Free World Dialup.

Vonage has grown extensively since its humble beginnings, and the provider went public in 2006. Ever since, Vonage has been innovating their platform, and expanded into the Business VoIP market by acquiring Vocalocity in 2013. Vonage grew their business service into a powerful cloud-first platform that enables users to collaborate virtually anywhere, any way.

Vonage has also expanded their platform beyond business phone solutions. By acquiring Nexmo back in 2016, Vonage brought together their robust unified communications solution with the agility of embedded, contextual communications APIs. This powerful combination enables businesses to collaborate more productively and engage their customers more effectively across messaging, chat, social media, video and voice.More recently, Vonage has also partnered with Amazon to include their Chime solution in their Vonage Business Cloud platforms.

Editorial Review

Vonage’s Business Cloud is one of the strongest offerings for SMB organizations looking to gain an entire Unified Communications platform that enables users to connect via voice, chat, text messaging or even video. Pricing is competitive, with plans tailored to fit specific needs and requirements, and month-to-month contracts are available as well.

Plans and Features Tailored to Your Business

What’s unique is Vonage’s separation between a Mobile and Complete plan. The Vonage Business Cloud Mobile Plus is designed for small companies that do not require desk phones and would rather utilize their Vonage service either on their computer, or a smartphone. This is great for remote teams, as well as smaller organizations, that are always on the go. This plan includes more than 40 powerful business phone features like a virtual receptionist, and voicemail to email.

For larger organizations, Vonage Enterprise provides hybrid network and bring your own broadband options with SD-WAN, elevated quality of service for all communications, even more advanced features, and deep integrations with mission-critical business applications like CRMs and WFOs. Vonage Enterprise is also built on top of a dedicated nationwide MPLS network, along with powerful features like visual voicemail, enterprise-grade conferencing for up to 300 participants and even call center functionality. Your business can completely tailor the solution with the features they need, instead of paying a price that includes features that will never be used.

As an added bonus, and a bit of a unique offering in the market, Vonage Business Cloud also includes a free subscription to Amazon’s Chime solution, providing users with another platform for collaboration including online meetings, video conferencing and team presence and chat. Their Nexmo platform is another example of how Vonage has expanded beyond phones. Nexmo enables business to engage customers across messaging, chat, social media, and voice – so things like sending verification messages or outbound marketing campaigns.

Overall, Vonage Business is a strong choice for any organization that is looking for a tailored approach solution, while still maintaining the flexibility and scalability of a cloud solution. Vonage manages to include an impressive feature set into a cost-effective, custom solution for every business, and their platform extensions like Chime and Nexmo help round out Vonage’s offerings to be much more than just Business VoIP.

Ola was very helpfu todayl in solving my problem associated with an account migration. She was patient, kind and had a good sense of humor too. She thoroughly tested every phone call route to be sure the problem was solved.

Hopefully this review will help someone else from going through what I have... I was a customer of Aptela for 5 + years until Vocalocity bought / merged w/them... In any event the last 6 mths has been a disaster and we just changed to a new provider. Our business is dependent on the phones. I have (2) locations and (2) seperate routers, modems, and internet connections and can attest that it isn't just an IT issue on my side as they will swear up and down when you call for assistance. The frustrating thing w/ this company is their service is poor and yet they will always find a way to blame it on our internet connection, modem, router, switch, etc... I replaced everything to what they recommended and finally they conceded...However, they have cost me THOUSANDS and I can't get a call back... customer service was a joke, I asked to speak to the manager and was told there wasn't one. It seemed like there was a group of young kids running the place and didn't have answers so they would just pass us around. I can't be clearer... I believe if you use this company and you need reliable; phones, customer service, professionalism, and you value your health and business, you should look anywhere but Aptela/Vocalocity. I can also substantiate another review on here I saw wherein the reviewer stated the customer service techs will assert various things relating to the technology at one's office, but yet they aren't qualified. Several times I had qualified VOIP techs on site who said these people were making unfounded claims and in several instances they were very contradictory. I'd be happy to expound to anyone who has further questions regarding how poor our experience was. I will say the features they offer are great and innovative, they just aren't reliable. Also, my poor experience began in the last 6-8 mths, however, I have been told multiple times it was just a "server" issue or the platform was being transferred. Good luck to all.

Great features...
Reliability, customer service, and sound quality are poor. We had separate locations w/ different hardware at each one, the problems persisted in both places.

Reliability is poor. It is Monday 05/16/2011 13:00 and all of my phones are down. The call to vocalocity's tech supports says it is out of service. This happened last month also. It means three or fours hours of customers not getting through and other problems. This is a very expensive issue for us. After it happened last month, we only received the general apology and some excuse email. No personal contact or direct acknowledgement. We are actively seeking another provider today.

A lot of features which we like. the configuration is pretty easy. the sound quality is fair.
Reliability is poor.

I was a little worried at first but once I tried Voip from Vocalocity and noticed that the sound quality was better than my AT&T hard lines along with the monetary savings, I was convinced that this was the way to go.  Happy I made the switch and have recommended it to many other reps that I deal with.

We are executive recruiters and phone quality is important to us. Cost is also important. With Vocalocity we found a great combination of the two. We saved a lot of money by switching. We also love the features that we got as part of the service. I would recommend that when you make a switch to voip, negotiate with the providers as I got a better deal than they initially offered.

I own a small credit and collections company and our phones are our lives. We were a bite nervous about switching to voip from our old fashioned telephone company, but we had to do it to cut costs. We are glad we did because the quality is actually better at half the price. This was a godsend to our company. Vocalocity did a good job and the transition was painless. We would recommend it.

My company uses Vocalocity as our main phone system and all of the end users love it. Since we are a real estate brokerage firm we are constantly out of the office so the follow-me feature is constantly in use by our associates. Not to mention the voicemail to email feature is very nice and keeps me from constantly having to call my voicemail, instead I can just access the sound file from my email on my Blackberry and then call the person back. We have never experienced an outage and are hoping that we never have to! Go with this service if you are a small and growing business, it has helped us immensely.

I signed on with Vocalocity over eleven months ago and I did so with some reservations. I had heard that voice over ip call quality was spotty but I was in dire need of a cheaper phone service and needed to make a change. As well I had heard that many hosted-voip providers claimed to have, yet did not have knowledgeable tech support teams. I felt the most comfortable with Vocalocity after talking to them and a number of other providers so I decided to go with them. I did experience some problems at first but those were due to a weak internet connection. After upgrading to a more reliable T1 connection the problems went away and the calls have been great. The phones that we use, the Linksys SPA 942, are easy to use and allow us to utilize the full functionality of the PBX. We really like having the ability to move the phones from location to location without having to reconfigure anything. Since we’re a small office and have families, working from home happens a lot and this feature makes it possible for us to handle business as usual. We highly recommend Vocalocity to those out there in search of a top of the line business phone service.

Been with Vocalocity for a year and a half now. The service has been good and the feature set gives you a ton of configuration options. Tech support actually exists there unlike some other voice over IP providers.

I was looking for a phone service provider last year for my consulting start-up, a friend recommended Vocalocity so I thought I would give them a call to see what they had to offer. After talking to them and a number of other providers it became clear that Vocalocity was the one company that was focused on forming long-term relationships with its customers. The Vocalocity sales staff was very clear about prices and how billing worked; most of the other companies were extremely vague. The fact that Vocalocity provides a transparent view of its business was enough to convince me that they were the best choice for my business.

The Skinny

Vonage Business (formerly Vocalocity) provides a reliable business VoIP phone service for small and mid-sized businesses. Founded in 2001 by Jeffrey A. Citron, Vonage is one of the largest cloud communication companies that offers both solutions to both businesses and residences. The company offered the first ever VoIP platform for 911 calls in 2003, and worked alongside Circut City to be the first to offer VoIP services nationwide in retail stores in 2004. From then on, Vonage's VoIP offerings have steadily increased, and included WiFi phone, virtual numbers, visual voicemail, and more. The company even acquired three key VoIP patents from Digital Packet Licensing Inc in 2006.

Most recently, Vonage extended their reach into the mobile world and released the Vonage Mobile® App, now compatible with the Apple Watch.
