magicJack Reviews

magicJack is an extremely cheap VoIP provider that works by using your existing Internet connection to make and receive calls. magicJack provides a plug-and-play device (like a USB drive) that you can connect to your computer or high-speed modem to start making local and long-distance calls. You can use magicJack for as little as $19.95/year per line.

With the newest magicJack Plus system, you don't have to have your computer on at all times in order to receive a call.

Is magicJack worth it?

Do not purchase this product. A friend recommended it to me before they had a chance to see exactly what happens with their customer service. If you don't mind being on line for over an hour and trying to get multiple people to fix the problem ( usually with no results) then this would be the product for you.

none
Customer service is awful. They tried to sell me a replacement ( charges were only for handling and shipping, they said) when mine was working through my usb port. When I confronted them with that fact they disconnted me and when I tried to get back on to talk to customer service they had blocked my number and had a prompt on there saying I didn't need customer service and only needed to replace a part. Be prepared if you, and you will, need to contact them because you will be on line for over an hour to try to get any type of help.. Also be aware that they charge $32 to port out your phone number to another carrier..

I can't think of anything good to say. The straw that broke my back was an hour and fifteen minutes on chat and all we did was discover that my blue light was on, My Magic Jack was plugged in without the extension cord. And my key pad displayed "stock symbol CALL" to indicate latest software. They really give the consumer the runaround I hope I am included in the class action law suit Magic Jack really deserves to lose.

temptingly cheap service price
poor customer service chats. Poor reliability in software. Audio breaks up on the receiving end. Does not start every time computer is booted up outrageous fees $20 to port phone numbers to them another $30 to leave them and port the number to someone else.

I tried to return my magic jacks (I had purchased 2) because I live in Canada and they advertised that I would be able to port my home phone number. The advertisement was from the U.S. and that was not made clear. They sent me a notification saying that they did not receive my shipment within the 30 days. They were lying and would not budge. I sent it back in two days. But I being nieve used regular mail and couldn't track my shipment and they know this and used it against you. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!

It does work, but not always. There are better products on the market(net talk etc.)
Company is decietful, and you cannot contact them by phone, or e-mail, or even snail mail for that matter. The only method is through their website typing to minimum wage front liners.

Magic Jack Customer service is a big waste of time. The billing was a pain as the Line Charge (Number) was not included in with the billing of the Annual Jack charge. If they get in a jam they hang up or pass the communication to someone else and you have to start from Scratch.
I was on-line with CS for over an hour getting their billing issue resolved.
The service does not connect to some RBOCS and additional charges apply that require an automatic subscription.

It is cheap. It works anywhere in the world as long as one has an ISP connection.
The service does not connect to some RBOCS. I do not like the quantertizing errors that cause speak artifacts as a result of the compression algorithms, especially to Cell Phones.

This is my experience. I had magic jack and used it occasionally. 50% of the time it worked, but then again I used it rarely. Then I stop service.I tried to get service back up with my old device and they told me they will get back to me. 2 weeks passed and nothing so I called again and then gave the run around. So i decided, ok I will let that old unit go and bought a new one. Same thing, but this time I really tried to resolve it 4 times and all 4 times same thing. They kept saying their mangers will get back to me. 40 days later today I contacted them and to no resolve and no refund.
My conclusion just use another service provider because the owner does not care about the people as numerous complaints with BBB.org and website blogs are clear evidence that something needs to be done but not done.

You can move your number around.
Customer service is not helpful. Not reliable device. Many system errors. Managers does not respond to even 5 request to resolve error. Will not refund.Hidden charges.

The reason for a home phone is to communicate, but I found it to be very difficult to communicate with this service because the sound quality is terrible on the receiving end. It sounds like a cell phone with very poor reception. The sound keeps cutting in and out.
It is also next to impossible to actually speak with someone at Majicjack except through the internet. By doing so, they try to keep troubleshooting rather than letting you return the equipment for a refund. In my experience, none of the troubleshooting worked. The end result is that I wound up wasting a lot of money on the equipment that was never returned, and received a service that was basically unusable.
I don't know if my experience is typical or not, but I would definitely not recommend this service.

Inexpensive home phone option. Simple to set up.
Poor Sound quality on the receiving end. Very difficult to return during the 30 day trial period.

I would not recommend this product to anyone I know. They have poor customer service and they do not care about their customers.
They have price changes and don't let you know until you have to renew, and then they refuse to give you the code to apply for a lesser charge, even though their site asks for it. They deny having a code. This company is shady.

Only charged once a year. You can call anywhere and it has caller ID.
That treat you like a child, don't answer questions, and ask more so that they confuse you, they don't like to answer questions, and will disconnect the conversation, if you ask too many according to their standards. If you don't have internet, you have no phone.

There is nothing good about this service, especially if you want to keep the number you currently have. They charge you $20 to port your number out from your current carrier and then when you decide that the service quality sucks so back that you can't deal with it anymore, they charge you $30 to release your number to a new carrier!! The sound/call quality is SO poor that I wouldn't even use it after about three calls where the person I was speaking with had to ask me to repeat myself every other sentence.

NONE! The price may be attractive for a minute, but its value soon wears thin! You get what you pay for

    The Skinny

    magicJack Revealed

    What is magicJack?

A magicJack is a small device that allows you to make Internet phone calls for cheap prices.

As of 2016, magicJack Express costs $39.95 plus shipping and handling. You get 3 months of free unlimited calling to the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. Additional years cost $35.

    How does magicJack work?

One of magicJack's top selling points is its ease of installation.

    1. Plug your phone into the magicJack
    2. Plug the magicJack into your computer
    3. Start making calls

Is there a special magicJack phone?

Nope! The magicJack device is what's known in the industry as an analog telephone adapter (ATA). You won't need a special phone in order to use magicJack.

What do you think of magicJack?

Many users have had a variety of issues with magicJack (as evidenced by the reviews). However, here are a couple of advantages of magicJack:

    1. Lowest Monthly Rates

Setting aside the fact that the first 6 months of phone service with magicJack are absolutely free, monthly rates are available for as little as $3.00 per month. Prices like that are extremely hard to complain about, and even some of our most scathing magicJack reviews still rate magicJack with 5 stars in the price category.

    2. Cheap Equipment

Any way you slice it, $39.95 is a great price to pay for the complete setup of a VoIP phone service that uses your existing phones. Other VoIP companies require specialized IP phones that can cost over $100, and an ATA adapter alone is often more than $50.

Even if the device runs into a problem and needs to be replaced, the low cost takes most of the sting out of a new purchase. In fact, with the money you'll save with magicJack's low monthly rate, the device practically pays for itself.

    3. Easy to Use

MagicJack is designed for people who have never heard of VoIP in the first place, and want a simple plug-and-play device that works right away. That's exactly what magicJack offers, and the new magicJack PLUS offers even more options. The old device required a constant connection to a computer to work, but the new one only needs to do so once to register. After that, just plug it into the wall and feel free to shut the computer off. The video below outlines how to use magicJack without a computer.

Previously the magicJack software was been reported by some as very difficult to remove. MagicJack software now comes with an easier to access uninstall option, so this point is no longer valid.

    MagicJack Customer Service

Unfortunately, magicJack does not have a customer service hotline. That means that the only way to resolve a service issue is through a high-traffic chat room, which occasionally has a slow response time as a result. Fortunately, the device is easy to install, so you'll likely never need the support. If you run into trouble, our best advice is to be patient with the chat, and see if the issue lies with your router configuration or Internet speed in the meantime.

If everything checks out and the chat system seems frustrating, just try doing something else for a while and wait for the chat system to get back to you. You can watch one of the many fan-made YouTube videos for magicJack support, try one of the links below to see if your issue is answered there, or even take care of checking your email while you wait. Sometimes, the best option is to simply wait a few hours for the peak traffic to die down, so that the support team has more time to dedicate to your needs. Either way, spending an hour or two researching and fixing any issues with the magicJack adapter is definitely worth the amount of money that you're saving with .

    Third-party magicJack Support

There are also some helpful blogs out there on the web that cover how to use magicJack if you still encounter trouble.

    Overall Analysis

In the end, and despite the issues that customers raise about magicJack service, we feel that magicJack offers a very low priced Residential VoIP service, especially for someone new to VoIP. However, there are a lot of negative customer reviews you should take into consideration. The extremely low monthly rate for unlimited phone calls is impossible to ignore, and the ease of installation further makes the case that magicJack's barebones VoIP service is one of the best in the industry.!

Don't take our word for it. We've got over 100 magicJack reviews for real magicJack customers. See what magicJack users have to say.
