Initially switched my number (I was transferring mine) with another subscriber. Took four days to get straightened out - it was an easy fix once the right person got on it.
Call quality was iffy - lots of feedback/echo. Too often no service as all for unknown reasons. Eventually I had no service at all and couldn't get a decent response. I finally just gave up on them.
When I went to cancel, their phone system kept dropping my call so I couldn't speak with anyone in billing. I figured they had perhaps gone out of business because they quit charging my credit card. I did finally get a hold of them after they charged my card for the previous four months. The rep did cancel my service and give me a credit back to the time I had quit using them.
Their customer service people were nice but not always on top of their game. Otherwise, I found the operation to be amateurish and I doubt they'll be a player in this growing field.
Me, I gave up on VOIP altogether. Good luck to those that try it.

What I expected was sound quality and support at least as good as my cellular provider. The sound quality is as good as cellular. No better, no worse. If you talk at the same time as the other party, neither can hear each other, and you must repeat (much like cellular). Occasionally there is an echo. I have to re-boot my phone adapter maybe once a week. I must say that the service and support has been absolutely awesome. When calling support, I've had to wait at most 3 minutes, and each time I've called for support, I spoken with a real person inside the US. Every question and support issue has been resolved quickly, and if not, I've been told why, and when it will be resolved. Every time I've emailed support, even with a billing question, I've received a response in a very timely manner. The web support interface is good, and is supposed to provide more and better features soon. Let's face it, VoIP is not the quality or availability of a land line, but at $25 less per month than I was paying, and with more features, so far it has been worth it.

DO NOT sign up with these guys. My 3 month "trial" experience has gone from bad to worse. Apparently they will stick you with a $39.99 fee to cancel and, even though they say the equipment they send is "free", you still need to return their cheap, poorly working phone box with your own postage. They are extremely unreliable in terms of the sound quality and connectivity. Save yourself the trouble and avoid them. Stick with the land line - prices are becoming competitive and you don't have to worry about not being able to use your phone for hours daily. I give Velocity Tel a D- (only because their customer support is nice). Their motto - "Talk is Cheap" should also apply to their quality.

This is a follow-up from my review on 1/17. Price is still great (although there is no breakout as to what taxes or fees the add'l $4.50 is going to). Customer service is very attentive and friendly - they are willing to spend as much time as it takes to work through your problems. The features are great - getting email online, etc... Now for the ugly reality - service is spotty at best. The phone adaptor goes out for no apparent reason almost daily for quite a while, and I have no service during that time. Often on calls the quality is garbled, and often you can hear echoes and other weird sounds, even on the other end. I have been cut off and one instance I could hear the other line but they couldn't hear me. At first I thought since it was a new company these were kinks it was trying to work out. But after 2 months of service, I am still dealing with sporadic service outages. The help desk have tried about everything in the equipment setup options to remedy them. Will probably pay the extra $5 and switch to AT&T soon. VelocityTel just doesn't seem to have put the infrastructure in place for good quality, reliable phone service.
And like some of the other reviewers had mentioned, I feel that the glowing reviews were probably planted - but just a hunch.

The sound quality is so bad, I cannot even complete a conversation, not to mention the dropped calls. Customer Service has pleasant people, but they have done absolutely nothing to solve the problem. I have had them for 2 months and enough is enough.

I placed my order January 13 and a month and a half later, still no service, no equipment, no anything! The confirmation email stated the same as the last few reviews and the inquiries I've made regarding service have been met with excuses and more excuses. Their advertisements are tempting, but obviously they can't fulfill!

After 8 weeks of waiting I was told they didn't have any phone numbers. Customer service was responsive as I was to various problems. 911, address in data base etc. I finally canceled my order. They could have advised me early on about the phone number. too bad, I think they would have been a good server.

I've had this service for about a week and a half. It started with VelocityTel taking the service over before I got my adapter, so for a couple of days I had no phone service at all. The information emailed to me on how to log on to the company's portal was wrong although the costumer support resolved that rather quickly. Call waiting doesn't work and according to the customer support "it's a company-wide problem" and there is no estimate for when it would start working. Sound quality is bad in general and at times just terrible. I'm seriously considering going back to regular phone service.

I thought this would be a great basic home phone service for my kids. The service worked great for a week or two, and then stopped. I changed routers, and it still doesn't work. After 4 weeks of a science project with their tech guys trying to figure out what might help, they now say it's my new router that's the problem - doesn't explain why it stopped working with the other router, tho.
It's not what you want if you want just plug and play.

Customer support is excellent! They even called me to report a problem they noticed in the system, related to our setup. Amazing!
Sounds quality is a bit distored at times, but this could be an issue with our network. Overall the sound quality is good.
Overall, I highly recommend the service. We have switched over our landline number, so no more $50+ a month Verizon bills for just local service plus some options!!! :o)
