Mobile VoIP (mVoIP) is a sky rocketing service that is threatening carriers and customers of traditional mobile networks. With mVoIP, users can avoid the voice networks altogether and make their calls via an internet connection on a mobile device. The benefits of avoiding the use of precious data and minutes while not paying large long distance fees has become a top commodity for users.
Skype: Microsoft Purchase Introduces Changes
In May, I wrote about the US government's efforts to cajole VoIP providers into cooperating with their wiretapping efforts. Specifically, the FBI asked for assistance upfront regarding planned amendments to the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA), requesting that VoIP providers and other services that support advanced communications technology (or, more simply, IP communication) voluntarily incorporate code.
The Hype for Skype
The Intertubes are ablaze with rumblings that Microsoft's Skype division might be planning a significant VoIP counter-attack to Google Voice, and more specifically Google+ Hangouts (with its free online video chat for up to 10 users).
Yesterday, Microsoft announced that it was going to buy Skype for a cool $8.5 billion dollars.
Details of the Notice of Possible Acquisition
First things first: Microsoft hasn't purchased Skype yet.
Microsoft announced the deal in a press release that was followed with a disclaimer as long as the press release (which is standard corporate practice – if ridiculous).
But, if the deal does go through, $8.5 billion dollars is a lot of money to spend on a company that doesn't make any.
If you think Skype is the only solution for all your VoIP needs on your iPhone, then its time to do some research into iCall. iCall is an innovative application that proves to be much more practical and revolutionary than all other applications!
