VoIP Provider Files Net Neutrality Complaint Against ISP
VoIP provider L2Networks filed a complaint to the FCC against Georgia's Albany Water Gas & Light Commission for violations of net neutrality.
It looks like energy companies are wising up to bandwidth usage from VoIP companies. Albany, which is also an ISP, wants L2Networks to compensate the company for using its fiber optic broadband cables at no cost. The question is, is it fair to freely use the broadband network for voice communication?
However, L2Network isn't exactly freeloading:
L2Networks purchases ethernet transport from Albany Water in order to serve its voice and Internet customers, Beahn said. The theft-of-service complaint stems from a single customer that uses L2Networks VoIP service over Albany Water's broadband service, he said. L2Networks also provides IP transit services to Albany Water, he said. - PC World
Albany called the cops based on one customer's usage of L2Network VoIP? Something isn't right.
