VOIP phone call quality is based on the speed and consistency of your internet connection. However, sometimes the quality of a VoIP call seems unexplainable. You know your internet connection is decent, too. The sound on your VoIP call is choppy and the person on the other end sounds like they have a horrific head cold.

Having VoIP doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to purchase a VoIP unit, which is pricier than a standard telephone. Apple, being one of the premier manufacturers of mobile phones, has come up with a rather handy solution for iPhone owners – they gave other companies a door to add on the phone’s features through ‘iPhone Apps’. Several companies took advantage of this ‘door’ and made VoIP apps for the iPhone.

Technology can always be used for either good or bad. VoIP is not immune to users with ill intentions. Just as the Internet is prone to hackers, VoIP can fall prey to call tappers, with the use of a program that extracts the data sent and received by your phone. With it, anyone can eavesdrop on your phone calls and gather sensitive information. You may not be a high profile figure or a celebrity that people would be extremely interested in your phone conversations but it understandably can leave you worried about your personal and professional security.

With VoIP companies offering more and more irresistibly low rates, you may be wondering why everybody and their mother haven’t jumped on the VoIP bandwagon yet. One reason is that not everyone is well-informed about VoIP. Another reason is that there have been a lot of negative feedback on VoIP companies.

According to estimates by marketing intelligence firm In-Stat, VOIP solutions users will approach 288 million by 2013. Currently, there are already more than 110 million VOIP service users, and this excludes Skype or Messenger users. The US is topping the charts with over 22 million users.
