magicJack Reviews

magicJack is an extremely cheap VoIP provider that works by using your existing Internet connection to make and receive calls. magicJack provides a plug-and-play device (like a USB drive) that you can connect to your computer or high-speed modem to start making local and long-distance calls. You can use magicJack for as little as $19.95/year per line.

With the newest magicJack Plus system, you don't have to have your computer on at all times in order to receive a call.

Is magicJack worth it?

We recommend that anyone interested in buying a magicJack read the user reviews here first.

Since my boyfriend and I began using Majic Jack we have been hearing
conversations of other from our phone, Loud porno type music once we start
dialing, and calls dropping and when the phone is still to your ear you can
hear ringing as if your calling someone but your not. I don't know if
someones listening into phone calls, if it's just shitty service, or what is
going on. But being a crime journalist I need privacy during my phone calls
and I feel like someone is listening into my calls. I'm dropping the service
and I do NOT recommend the service to my worst enemy.

Magic Jack ---SUCKS…They flat out lied about calling anywhere in the USA. I
can’t call in to a USA conference number set up by another person, I MUST
set up the call and go through the MJ conference number….I specifically
asked about this and of course they said no problem…”you can call any
number in the USA”.
It gets worse…They were NOT to port my existing phone number to Magic Jack
and they did. It has been well over a week and I still DO NOT HAVE MY NUMBER
BACK. Missed every one of my customer calls and I lost revenue. No one at
Magic Jack was helpful nor do they seem to care. I was on hold for 45
minutes, disconnected, transferred and had to repeat my issue all over again
(at least 7 times). I was told different things every time I spoke to someone
different, they don’t speak English, they don’t understand English. They
are just F’ing STUPID AND THEY SUCK.

After waiting on line for 80 minutes (even though it said 35) for 2nd tier
support I was booted at the last second. Chatted back at level 1 (also
painfully slow) and they threw me to bottom of queue again for tier 2 even
though I saw they were putting folks ahead of me as my queue number kept
rising. I just wasn't willing to wait for another 2 hours for assistance with
a firmware upgrade that only they can do. This is the worst customer service
I have experienced in ages. They just don't care. Bye bye. You lost
another potential customer.

None. Couldn't even get out of the starting gate.

I have used Magic Jack since 2013 and currently have two magic jack devices
providing phone and fax service to my residence-one device is a magic plus
and the other is a magic jack GO. I have had no problems with either device.
Reliability of magic jack depends on the quality of your internet service, I
currently use the magic jack app that allows calls on one of my lines to
rollover to my cell phone- Works like a charm. I am very satisfied with the
magic jack devices. Reduced my monthly phone bill for 2 lines from $100 per
month to $7 per month. Let me make a suggestion for anyone contemplating
using a magic jack and you are unsure about the quality of their service or
the quality of you internet service. Purchase the Magic Jack GO, now selling
for $35.00 and provides a year of service. Install the magic jack and use a
telephone number provided by magic jack. Do not cancel your telephone service
from your local provider. Begin using the magic jack to make calls and have
your friends begin calling you on the magic jack number- Remember that you
still have your regular telephone service that you can still use. If you are
satisfied with the quality of the calls from Magic Jack after one month, have
Magic Jack port your home phone number to the magic jack device and cancel
you present phone service. Magic Jack will charge +/- $10 to port your phone
number over to magic jack. This is a one time charge. This is the process I
used because I read so many negative reviews about Magic Jack, but the
quality of my calls and reliability have been excellent with Magic Jack.;

Calls are clear. Reduced my phone bill from $100 to $7 per month for two lines. Magic Jack can be used for faxing.
Customer Service is poor.

I bought the Magic jack service over 1.5 years through the Magic Jack Canada
site (Big MISTAKE) ago and hardly used the service as it was very affordable
to sign up for a year.
So before I knew it a year was up and so I subscribed for another 2 years as
it was so much more affordable to it that way then to just sign up for a
year.

Long story short I have had nothing but issues with this dam service, The
Company who sold it “Magic Jack Canada” turns out the guy works out of
his house (one man show) and he is just too happy in taking your money and he
has no ability to provide any kind of technical support.

Upon further investigation it turns out I am subscribed to a company called
NetTalk who has no ability in providing any kind of technical support (third
party vender to another company I have yet to determine, You need to
communicate through a chat session with no ability to speak to anyone live on
a phone, they take forever to come back to you and have very little ability
to troubleshoot any kind of issue.

Call quality sucks and I can’t get this resolved I have another 18 months
left on the device I paid for I want a refund on the remaining year and I
can’t reach anyone. I am just being ignored like a stop sign. No one
answers my chats, I cant call anyone and no one calls me back to have this
resolved.

I am so sick of these fly by nights who con people in paying for a service
they can’t use…

So I am now looking at opening a case with CCTS as I am not getting any
response from anyone.
Be aware of Magic Jack and stay away… Horrible business practices.

I have Magic Jack for a few years on two separate home phone lines. The
quality is very good most of the time, and the price is the best anywhere!
It is not perfect but for the price I can live with any problem. I wanted to
keep both of my old phone numbers, one of which I've had for 25 years! And I
could do that with Magic Jack.

Fantastic price!

I switched from my Xfinity Comcast phone service to MajicJack, because there
was a good promotion on Xfinity for a package that did not include phone.
After a few days on MajicJack, I found out that "you get what you pay for" is
very true. Here are some points:
- Caller ID name transmitted by other phones is not displayed, only the
number is shown
- My Caller ID name is not transmitted, either
- Time stamp is EST instead of my Central
- The LOCAL number that I used for my calling card (for international calls)
is now pay-per-minute, NOT free
- Voice mail is sent to email, instead of being stored on the server
- Text messages cannot be received on home phone line, unless cell phone is
linked through app. No server storage, either.

Besides, they add some mysterious "administrative fee" to every service
charge.

I called (chatted with) customer service regarding those issues. They always
"explain" the reasons, instead of fixing anything. I decided to stay with
them for this one year term that I already payed for, but then most likely go
back to Xfinity.

Low cost. Acceptable sound quality.
Poor features. Hidden charges.

Today I cut the cord! After paying 240.00 per month for an Internet, cable
and landline bundle I've finally decided to try magic Jack as well as ditch
the cable. Now the cable was easy to let go because other than the high cost
for a lot of crappy stations when I spend more than 50% of the time on my
local (free) network anyway, Internet TV has come a long way and I have
already subscribed to Netflix and am very happy with their service. The phone
however took a little longer to decide. I am self employed for the last 35
years and have had the same phone number for 25 years. however lately I have
noticed that more than ever fewer people phone me for business inquiries.
E-mail , facebook and texts are becoming the norm. The other issue is that
the major phone companies are starting to almost give landline phone service
away as a bonus for signing up to their internet (I live in Canada and we
have some of the most expensive internet services on the planet) I think they
are starting to sell landline services for as low as 20 dollars a month.
Anyway I figured if I'm going to reduce my bill I might as well make it as
low as possible. I read reviews and researched magic Jack and I honestly have
to say from the mixed reviews I've read that I wasn't really sold on it to
save a little over 25 dollars a month. I took a chance anyway and purchased
the Magic Jack Go at Walmart for $69.00 including the first 12 months free.
WELL BOY IM SO GLAD I DID!!!!.The process took longer than I expected and was
a bit more complicated than advertised. That said, I contacted customer
support and was surprised to find that I was first in the cue. Instantly I
had an agent online who was very patient and genuinely seemed thrilled to get
me set up as a new customer. The process took almost an hour in total because
I was having trouble at my end and I asked a lot of questions. The agent
routinely said for me to take my time. The setup process was top shelf all
the way and all other customer service reps of their competitors should take
note: for a bit more than 3 dollars a month they will destroy the
competition. The sound (which a lot of people said was suspect) was
surprisingly loud and clear. I did turn the phone volume up a little more
than I used to but then it was just like it always was. I could have paid the
one time $20 fee to save my old number but I ultimately decided not to bother
and leased a new local easy to remember number for $10 per year The only
reason that I gave 4 stars for reliability is because I've only had the
service for less than a day. Amazing support, Amazing clear service, amazing
savings and an amazing little gadget overall. I am only disappointed in
myself for being too stubborn for not having done this years ago. I may go
sign up for five years where it goes for a bit over 2 dollars a month! I've
reduced my overall bill by 150 dollars a month and couldn't be happier. YOU
ROCK MAGIC JACK and so does your customer support! Thanks from a happy new
customer.

I remember many years ago leaving a foul review of magicjack...I won't bother
to go into details as to why and suffice to say:
Firstly, where the hell are you going to go to get a non-capitalizing means
of communication with reliable service, an awesome control panel on their
website to work your communications and unlimited incoming and outgoing
calling, and all the perks that come with a damn phone? So the Price is
digestible by all means.
Secondly, I believe that throughout the years of service with magicjack they
genuinely have been upgrading their service to us (at no extra charge)
because it seems to be more reliable than my overpriced cell phone. Truth be
known, I recently canceled the service for the cell phone.
And finally, I'm a grass-roots kind of person with a goal to be completely
offgrid. I eliminated the gas company years ago (firewood for cooking and
heating now...love it except for the soot and dust), I've also eliminated the
phone (cell), and reduced my electric bill to $40.00 in the winter time
(right now it's January in Ohio) and less than that in the spring and
summer...the electric will be eliminated hopefully this year once and for all
because I am certain that the fee I pay is not actually for usage but
something the monopolies conjured up called "availability of service fee", so
the electric will be replaced by a spot generator if needed. For the most
part my wind generator, solar arrays, batteries, large garden, chickens
....holy crap where the hell am I going with this!!!??? Oh yeah....I
would consider keeping magicjack and not consider dropping that bill from my
life because I feel magicjack is a fair exchange (now if I could only figure
out how to "legally" harness free internet because that IS NOT a fair deal
for the masses at all with their one of two choices for overpriced slow
crappy service and crappier customer service. Okay I'm old and just woke up
so I'll be using this statement as my disclaimer for the overchatty review.
Magicjack=hell yeah.

Sound Quality, Price, Great Customer Support
They don't offer Internet service too (LOL the whole of America would flock to these people as an alternative choice that probably would not be attune to profiteering).

The idea of cheap phone service is the appeal. Like every good con that's
what pulls you in. When I called to ask a question on incorrect billing I
was put on hold, disconnected, and transfered back and forth over a 5 hour
period. That's right five hours! THERE IS NO CUSTOMER SERVICE, per se.

They refused to give me a refund until I notified the Florida State attorney
General. Then it was all boo-hoo and " we are sorry YOU misunderstood
us...."

It nay sound like a good deal but save youself the headaches that come with a
con- job.

    The Skinny

    magicJack Revealed

    What is magicJack?

A magicJack is a small device that allows you to make Internet phone calls for cheap prices.

As of 2016, magicJack Express costs $39.95 plus shipping and handling. You get 3 months of free unlimited calling to the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. Additional years cost $35.

    How does magicJack work?

One of magicJack's top selling points is its ease of installation.

    1. Plug your phone into the magicJack
    2. Plug the magicJack into your computer
    3. Start making calls

Is there a special magicJack phone?

Nope! The magicJack device is what's known in the industry as an analog telephone adapter (ATA). You won't need a special phone in order to use magicJack.

What do you think of magicJack?

Many users have had a variety of issues with magicJack (as evidenced by the reviews). However, here are a couple of advantages of magicJack:

    1. Lowest Monthly Rates

Setting aside the fact that the first 6 months of phone service with magicJack are absolutely free, monthly rates are available for as little as $3.00 per month. Prices like that are extremely hard to complain about, and even some of our most scathing magicJack reviews still rate magicJack with 5 stars in the price category.

    2. Cheap Equipment

Any way you slice it, $39.95 is a great price to pay for the complete setup of a VoIP phone service that uses your existing phones. Other VoIP companies require specialized IP phones that can cost over $100, and an ATA adapter alone is often more than $50.

Even if the device runs into a problem and needs to be replaced, the low cost takes most of the sting out of a new purchase. In fact, with the money you'll save with magicJack's low monthly rate, the device practically pays for itself.

    3. Easy to Use

MagicJack is designed for people who have never heard of VoIP in the first place, and want a simple plug-and-play device that works right away. That's exactly what magicJack offers, and the new magicJack PLUS offers even more options. The old device required a constant connection to a computer to work, but the new one only needs to do so once to register. After that, just plug it into the wall and feel free to shut the computer off. The video below outlines how to use magicJack without a computer.

Previously the magicJack software was been reported by some as very difficult to remove. MagicJack software now comes with an easier to access uninstall option, so this point is no longer valid.

    MagicJack Customer Service

Unfortunately, magicJack does not have a customer service hotline. That means that the only way to resolve a service issue is through a high-traffic chat room, which occasionally has a slow response time as a result. Fortunately, the device is easy to install, so you'll likely never need the support. If you run into trouble, our best advice is to be patient with the chat, and see if the issue lies with your router configuration or Internet speed in the meantime.

If everything checks out and the chat system seems frustrating, just try doing something else for a while and wait for the chat system to get back to you. You can watch one of the many fan-made YouTube videos for magicJack support, try one of the links below to see if your issue is answered there, or even take care of checking your email while you wait. Sometimes, the best option is to simply wait a few hours for the peak traffic to die down, so that the support team has more time to dedicate to your needs. Either way, spending an hour or two researching and fixing any issues with the magicJack adapter is definitely worth the amount of money that you're saving with .

    Third-party magicJack Support

There are also some helpful blogs out there on the web that cover how to use magicJack if you still encounter trouble.

    Overall Analysis

In the end, and despite the issues that customers raise about magicJack service, we feel that magicJack offers a very low priced Residential VoIP service, especially for someone new to VoIP. However, there are a lot of negative customer reviews you should take into consideration. The extremely low monthly rate for unlimited phone calls is impossible to ignore, and the ease of installation further makes the case that magicJack's barebones VoIP service is one of the best in the industry.!

Don't take our word for it. We've got over 100 magicJack reviews for real magicJack customers. See what magicJack users have to say.
