magicJack Reviews

magicJack is an extremely cheap VoIP provider that works by using your existing Internet connection to make and receive calls. magicJack provides a plug-and-play device (like a USB drive) that you can connect to your computer or high-speed modem to start making local and long-distance calls. You can use magicJack for as little as $19.95/year per line.

With the newest magicJack Plus system, you don't have to have your computer on at all times in order to receive a call.

Is magicJack worth it?

Magic Jack service is the worst I have ever met. My magicjack never works without to plug in the computer. I have to leave my computer on all the time in order to make the magicjack box works. I tried to call their custom service to fix that, but they were terrible and rude, and they can't fix the problem. My suggestion is DON'T BUY MAGIC JACK. It's awful!

Low price, terrible service!!!!
Terrible customer service. Don't trust their ad. Magic Jack never works if you don't plug it in the computer.

MagicJack is pointless and a waste of time.

I WARN EVERYONE THAT READS THIS BEWARE MAGICJACK. IT'S GOOD AT TIMES BUT NOT LONG TERM.
If you look at the pros to cons ratio you'll realize that there is more cons then pros, although magicjack is a nice and cheap inexpensive way to call and talk to people from Canada and the United States, but if you have problems like I do as well as everyone else that uses phones/cellphones/tablets/computer that utilize magicjack then you might as well give up on fixing the problem. I have had my home phone number for a long time, and i have been paying my local phone company(s) thousands of dollar (you heard me THOUSANDS, i'm not even joking), i have'd paid 55 dollars a month on my phone bill for the better part of a 2 decades till recently i changed provider to pay 46 dollars a month (not much of a difference), then MagicJack comes along with their eye catching advertisement 20 dollars PER YEAR!!, i like many fell for their TRAP. i ported my number since i had since the beginning of time to the new majicjack plus 2013, work well for a year then the new majicjack 2014 came, work well for 2 MONTHS, then broke down, i chatted with CS for a full 2 HOURS, FRUITLESS, then i wanted to port my number to a new carrier, ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE, i didn't spend 1 hour not 2 either but 3 DAYS to get my number back.
AND THAT'S NOT ALL. i just recently been told that someone in the United States has the same magicjack number as i do, guess i'll have to spend my weekend this time to fix this problem.
I WARN EVERYONE THAT READS THIS BEWARE MAGICJACK. IT'S GOOD AT TIMES BUT NOT LONG TERM.

cheap, easy to use.
customer services is unbearable, sound quality is garbage, cheap material(breaks down fast, and i mean FAST), not many features as they described, someone you don't even know has the SAME NUMBER AS YOU!!! and many more..

Have used Magic Jack Plus for about two years. Cannot understand the negative reports. I have Time-Warner as my IP; Magic Jack connected to the router and to existing house wiring at all times. Excellent sound quality on International, National and Local calls and 100% reliable. Very low rates to landlines outside North America. And if you live or travel in Europe (and probably anywhere in the World) with a Wi-Fi connected computer or router you can call the US at no extra cost.

Simple to connect, excellent sound and reliable, dirt cheap
Lack of customer service but what do you expect for $3/month, house calls by a service technician?
Yes

I have used Magic Jack as my home phone for 3 years.

Over all I am very happy with my 2 Magic Jacks. I keep one in the house to use as my home phone and another in my mancave for my personal use. I use mine in conjunction with Google voice service and have found the combination of the 2 work extremely well. For the price of less than $20 a year, I don't think you can beat it. I believe that the call quality problems I occasionally experience is due to problems with my ISP and not the Magic Jack.

Cheap price, good service
Customer service was not the best, call quality sometimes not the best.

The phone quality is horrible on calls. Always cuts out, even with high speed internet at 20+ Mbps. Then if you try to port out your number to another provider, the stall, create red herrings to chase down, then start a wild goose hunt, then they circle around and start it all over again. This is the most pitiful customer service experience I have ever had with anyone, and that includes cell phone and cable companies. I would definitely steer anyone away from this horrible company. It is just not worth the aggravation and clueless people on their end.

Low cost, you cannot beat that
Customer service is non existent. Cant port out a number without going through enough problems to make anyone pull their hair out.

This device is awful for anyone who lives in Alaska. Even though the company claims free long distance in the US - it does not work to call any Alaska phone numbers which is very frustrating for someone who lives in Alaska! The customer service was terrible and took forever. The agents don't understand that Alaska is part of the US and could never tell me that Alaska was actually excluded from the free US long distance.

The device breaks down and the customer has already prepaid for the product. Very often can't hear clearly and the service is not available or is down.

At the start the price was wonderful, and easy installation.
They get you in with the "low cost" but quality and real availability of the service is not always there.

In brief, at the end of my year contract I wanted to renew. Got to be honest, when it worked, it was pretty good. However I have spent five months (not every day obviously) trying to renew my plan. Tried everything, spent hours with their customer service people, their payment system would not accept any of my valid cards. In the end, I gave up. Put the magic jack into the bin. Seriously shouldn't be impossible to pay a company some money?! Avoid this product at all costs - if something goes wrong, you have wasted your money. And it will go wrong.

Great product, if you use it at home only (via good broadband internet) and don't try to use it via 3G/4G.
The company should win an aware for the worst customer service in the world.

The international prepaid service was OK, except when I went to use it they said I had no balance. I'd put $40 in and hadn't hardly used the service. Turns out if the balance had been there for over 6 months, you forfeit it. Seemed harsh. No emails, not warnings that it's almost 6 months and they're about the take your money. It's just gone.

Cheap
If you have any balance on your prepaid international card they take it.

    The Skinny

    magicJack Revealed

    What is magicJack?

A magicJack is a small device that allows you to make Internet phone calls for cheap prices.

As of 2016, magicJack Express costs $39.95 plus shipping and handling. You get 3 months of free unlimited calling to the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. Additional years cost $35.

    How does magicJack work?

One of magicJack's top selling points is its ease of installation.

    1. Plug your phone into the magicJack
    2. Plug the magicJack into your computer
    3. Start making calls

Is there a special magicJack phone?

Nope! The magicJack device is what's known in the industry as an analog telephone adapter (ATA). You won't need a special phone in order to use magicJack.

What do you think of magicJack?

Many users have had a variety of issues with magicJack (as evidenced by the reviews). However, here are a couple of advantages of magicJack:

    1. Lowest Monthly Rates

Setting aside the fact that the first 6 months of phone service with magicJack are absolutely free, monthly rates are available for as little as $3.00 per month. Prices like that are extremely hard to complain about, and even some of our most scathing magicJack reviews still rate magicJack with 5 stars in the price category.

    2. Cheap Equipment

Any way you slice it, $39.95 is a great price to pay for the complete setup of a VoIP phone service that uses your existing phones. Other VoIP companies require specialized IP phones that can cost over $100, and an ATA adapter alone is often more than $50.

Even if the device runs into a problem and needs to be replaced, the low cost takes most of the sting out of a new purchase. In fact, with the money you'll save with magicJack's low monthly rate, the device practically pays for itself.

    3. Easy to Use

MagicJack is designed for people who have never heard of VoIP in the first place, and want a simple plug-and-play device that works right away. That's exactly what magicJack offers, and the new magicJack PLUS offers even more options. The old device required a constant connection to a computer to work, but the new one only needs to do so once to register. After that, just plug it into the wall and feel free to shut the computer off. The video below outlines how to use magicJack without a computer.

Previously the magicJack software was been reported by some as very difficult to remove. MagicJack software now comes with an easier to access uninstall option, so this point is no longer valid.

    MagicJack Customer Service

Unfortunately, magicJack does not have a customer service hotline. That means that the only way to resolve a service issue is through a high-traffic chat room, which occasionally has a slow response time as a result. Fortunately, the device is easy to install, so you'll likely never need the support. If you run into trouble, our best advice is to be patient with the chat, and see if the issue lies with your router configuration or Internet speed in the meantime.

If everything checks out and the chat system seems frustrating, just try doing something else for a while and wait for the chat system to get back to you. You can watch one of the many fan-made YouTube videos for magicJack support, try one of the links below to see if your issue is answered there, or even take care of checking your email while you wait. Sometimes, the best option is to simply wait a few hours for the peak traffic to die down, so that the support team has more time to dedicate to your needs. Either way, spending an hour or two researching and fixing any issues with the magicJack adapter is definitely worth the amount of money that you're saving with .

    Third-party magicJack Support

There are also some helpful blogs out there on the web that cover how to use magicJack if you still encounter trouble.

    Overall Analysis

In the end, and despite the issues that customers raise about magicJack service, we feel that magicJack offers a very low priced Residential VoIP service, especially for someone new to VoIP. However, there are a lot of negative customer reviews you should take into consideration. The extremely low monthly rate for unlimited phone calls is impossible to ignore, and the ease of installation further makes the case that magicJack's barebones VoIP service is one of the best in the industry.!

Don't take our word for it. We've got over 100 magicJack reviews for real magicJack customers. See what magicJack users have to say.
