We had used SunRocket for nearly 1 year prior to their shut-down. SunRocket did give me some headaches especially at first until the finally replaced the adaptor (Gizmo). My wife really wanted to keep the VoIP service to keep the costs down. After much research we decided to try Lingo and I am really pleased. Like another poster stated - you need to keep in mind that this is not "plug and play". I placed my order at 9:30 PM ET on Monday night and received the Adaptor today. We were able to make some calls but noticed the caller-ID we sent was from another area code (turned-out it was Nashville). A call into Tech Support got the issue resolved promptly. I was able to immediately get a Tech Rep on the phone without waiting on hold. I have been able to verify access into my business conference call line, corporate voice mail system (sometimes SunRocket didn't work on these). As part of my research into alternative VoIP providers I called their tech support lines, if long they were eliminated. My collegue signed up for ViaTalk over two weeks ago and still hasn't received his phone adaptor. THANKS Lingo, you've made an excellent first impression with me!

* Prompt answering of phone calls into Sales and Tech Support! * Knowledgable Tech Support - excellent customer service
* Did require 1 call into Tech Support to get the MAC address properly configured on the new account. * Wife will be on

Thick accents on customer service representitives make it difficult to communicate with them. Service is iffy at best, box is always resetting, and because you buy the box at signup they won't support it.

At first, we had numerous problems lasting for months. Service tried and waas always available quickly to help, but their staff rarely knew how to deal with it. Problems included dropouts and echoes. After two years, I am reasonably happy, though they still like to jack up the price.

This is second time I tried this service.. They had an ad paying $50 after 90 days if you came back. Never saw check.. They said my number could be ported .. never happened. I feel sorry for the Indians they use instead of US ..they are at a disadvantage.

I signed up with Lingo in Aug '06 for 2 reasons, I can call family in Canada for a slightly cheaper price than Vonage, and I was able to keep my phone number. (Vonage said they would have to change it)
Well I've come to the conclusion that you get what you pay for!
For most calls that I make or receive (local or long distance) the sound quality is very poor. Much of the time my voice will cut out and the other person can only hear about every 3rd word I say. There are delays and echos and static on the line.
Ever since I got Lingo, my internet connection gets dropped frequently..I spend more time under the desk trying to sort through the gazillions of wires to reset modems.
Every time you call customer service for assistance, you get some Indian person whom you can hardly understand and their suggestions never fix the problems.
Well today I called inquiring about cancelling. Of course I got an Indian person, who then referred me to the 'cancellation representative' who actually spoke english. He told me if I don't stay with them for a full year (Aug 07) then I will get charged a $40 cancellation fee! He then tried to bargain with me and said he could 'save me some money' by not charging me for July, then I would pay my reg $22 for August and my cancellation fee would be downgraded to $7.50. I kinda thought to myself, "why would i even be charged $7.50 if I've done my year?" But I figured with not being charged for july I would still save some money and agreed to it all. I then received an email stating that they had changed my service to the Lingo Link Plan : $7.95/mth (where I could call lingo customers ONLY) and that I was being charged a $10 service change fee! All this was going to take effect for the June-July bill...I thought I wasn't going to get charged for July?
I called back and made a fuss. I spoke to an indian person who apparently changed it back to my old plan and I will still not be billed for July. And he said I can cancel my service in Aug and will not be billed any cancellation fees as my year is up.
Very very sketchy. I think the english person I spoke to was trying to rip me off. I am so ready to get rid of this service in August...for some apparent reason I'm thinking it won't be so easy...

please stay away from lingo!! i had this service for 1 year..and that was just cuz i couldnt break the contract before the year ended without paying some kind of penalty. let me just list a few things.
1. it keeps resetting itself so every other week...your phone wont be working
2. most of the time you get no dial tone. you'll be spending half of your day underneath your desk, tangled in wires trying to reset and restart every f---ing thing
3. it causes problems with your internet, so in the end, you wont have an internet connection or phone service
4. everytime you call for tech support you get connected to someone in india and you cant even understand their accent and what they're trying to get you to do.
5. when you ask them to credit your account cuz your phone hasnt been working for 2 weeks..they'll say to you rudely in their broken down english...."it wasnt lingo's fault...it was your internet"
6. they try to get off the phone with you as soon as they can and might even "accidentally" hang up on you.
i know its tempting to only have to pay $18.00 a month...but is that really worth wasting your time over endless crappy service and hours on the phone trying to get someone to fix it.

Customer Service is the pits. I know I used it for 2 years and still have frequent issues. Sound Quality and reliability isn't good. Lingo has issues with fax tranmissions. If it can be faxed once it can be faxed every time. Their out is we don't support fax. Don't fall for the nwest scam of calls from your PC, you can already make calls from your PC without their ad on service.

I can't understand the extreme negative reviews seen here..I signed up for Lingo over phone two weeks ago..and have been very satisfied all around. No, I am NOT in any way affiliated with the company.
Ordered the service on Friday, got the equipment on the following Tuesday (delivered to MD) despite 'standard' shipment. Of course the equipment did not work when plugged in per installation instructions - NO DIFFERENT HERE than the three other VoIP providers I have tried. They all seem to overlook the details pertaining to the initial setup of an adapter inside a home network. Called tech support, got through within 2 minutes and problem was solved within 5 minutes.
I admit that I am a techie and so can fix my own problems for the most part. Here is my advise to others who are experimenting with VoIP adapters. Assign them STATIC IP addresses within your home network. Gets rid of 90% of 'stability' and 'reliability' problems. For, most home quality routers (the Linksys's of the world) have their own bugs when it comes to DHCP and may or may not provide the IP address properly to the adapter.
Since the time I have had the Lingo service, there hasn't been one outage. I have Verizon FiOS for internet connection. It helps to have a 'rock solid' internet connection such as the FiOS, which guarantees a good bit of upstream bandwidth.

Horrible company. Horrible service. Poor call quality, cannot fax. Broken calls. Have to use my Cel Phone for "quality." Every time I've called Lingo technical support I reach someone with broken English in India who told me it has to goto a Level 2 Technician. No one, on both occassions, called me back as promised. Then to add insult to injury, they'd send a damn survey each time asking "How Did We do?" One time I received an email saying they were unable to reach me. I have caller ID display and history for WEEKS. They lie. I then emailed customer service about this asking for a REAL call back and they have yet to respond and it's been 2 weeks. When I 1st started with Lingo they offered a 30 day money back guarantee. Well it took them 4 weeks to port my # from my previous provider, Comcast. So by the time I was able to try the service out, the woman in customer service said my guarantee had expired. I explained I HAVEN'T EVEN BEEN ABLE TO TRY IT. 1 week of my guarantee was waiting for the damn Lingo Router to arrive in the mail. As you can see I'm very frustrated. If you want call quality, Lingo is horrible. If you need to use data services with ANY VOIP service, stay away until technology improves. I've had Vonage before as well and faxes, hooking up to Satellite receivers to dial out, etc. have always been problamatic. Lingo has been disgusting to say the least. Vonage was much better, still with issues, but at least Customer Service appeared to be in the United States. Horrible Customer Service, Horrible Technical Support, Horrible quality. I am going back to a good 'ole fashioned POTS Line with Qwest. Damage Resulting = I am a Real Estate agent. Hundreds of dollars in gas having to drive 10 miles each way to our office to make or receive a fax. Extra large Cel Phone bills as call quality is so bad I have to call customer's back on my cel. Yes, my cel phone is crystal clear, Lingo is horrible. I have a 7 MEG DSL connection with a 700K upload speed. My internet speed is NOT the issue.
