MagicJack Releases iPhone App
magicJack has released a free application for download from the Apple App Store. The magicJack app allows users to make calls to the US, Canada, and other magicJack users across the globe for free. The app is compatible with the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch.
magicJack is the one VoIP service that requires a USB port on a computer to function. The magicJack device weighs less than an ounce and acts as a softphone for your PC with an analog adapter for POTS phones.
Now consumers with iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad can use the magicJack app as long as they've got Wi-Fi or 4G. Users don't have to pay for minutes or a voice plan.
Dan Borislow, CEO of magicJack, seems especially excited (and confident) about the new app: "I am incredibly proud of the many employees involved in building our first APP(sic). I am obviously biased in saying this, but I can't see any reason that by offering the best voice quality, free calls, ease of use, ability to use your existing contacts and free download, that we will not have tens of millions of downloads over the next year. Apple has the best OS and devices built for voice and I believe we have the best telephone network and software engineers to take advantage of this incredible platform." MagicJack Press Release from Globe Newswire
magicJack claims it will be expanding "into new markets" globally. At $20 a year for home phone service, you can see why they believe they'll expand.
Still, one has to wonder about the new softphone app. It sounds a lot like Skype, which already has a free iPhone app. While Skype only allows free calls to other Skype users, it is completely free.
