Virgin Airlines to Allow In-Flight Calls

If you didn't catch the to-do recently, Viber founder/CEO Talmon Marco was nearly arrested for using his own VoIP service on a Delta Airlines flight.

Well, now Virgin Airlines will begin allowing in-flight calls over the Atlantic, and not just with VoIP. Passengers already use wi-fi for Skype, according to BBC News.

MetroPCS Migrating to VoLTE (VoIP)

Check it out, MetroPCS is updating its network from CDMA to VoLTE (Voice over LTE). The reason, however, is more to compete with the bigger guys—not make it cheaper for the consumer.

NSA develops secure VoIP system

The NSA has developed its own encrypted VoIP protocol using Google's Android operating system. The phones, designed for US government staff, are password protected and use certificates to authenticate other handsets.

Talking to Your Sweetheart on Valentine's

Happy Valentine's Day (or 'happy' Singles Appreciation Day, whichever). According to Rebtel, lovers are using mobile phones more than any other medium in order to get in touch. In their survey, 56.8 % of respondents said their significant other would not be around, and 86.6 % of those said they'd contact them. Of course, this is Rebtel, so assume that most of the sample group were using Rebtel for international mobile service anyway.

Skype releases 2.6 for Android

Skype released 2.6 for Android OS today. New stuff: photo sharing, more video support types, BATTERY LIFE. My Galaxy SII barely lasts 2 days, but maybe that's because I do too many Sudoku puzzles.

Republic Wireless - Hands-on

So! Last Wednesday CNET took a look at Republic Wireless' new service released in November. I really hope more phone options come out in the future, as you can only get the Optimus S, currently. Also, a little disappointing about the network-swapping. Still worth checking out.
