VOIP YOUR LIFE REVIEW

Posted on: Apr 11, 2007
Pros
Cons

Customer Service and Tech Support are Super! I had a couple of questions concerning the free X-LITE computer softphone activation and operation....but they were quickly addressed and solved by their Tech Support. I also have had very clear calls in and out, nobody can detect any differences from a land line. I will soon port my land line phone number. I realize there are less expensive VOIP providers to consider, but not with the high rates of this provider. I haven't had any complaints to date and am VERY satisified!

Initial impressions of VYL from a vonage refugee.

Posted on: Apr 09, 2007
Pros
Cons

I'd been with vonage for a couple years. Frankly, the only problems I had with them were equipment-related ones. They "upgraded" my netgear wireless router to a linksys one that included a VOIP router. My old netgear router worked flawlessly. My new linksys one was poor at best, constantly dropping connection speeds until connection became impossible. Unplugging & replugging the router would fix this. Initially, I only had to do this about every day or two. But after a move, it became totally unworkable requiring this shock therapy every hour or two. About that time, Vonage lost its patent infringement case with verizon & their very existence became questionable. At the best, they would come up with some work-around for the verizon patents & I would be their guinea pig. !!!NOT!!! I was tossing both vonage & that useless router. I bought a netgear rangemax wireless router & set out to find another VOIP company.

I decided to go with VYL on the basis of other ratings. They got me set up pretty quickly, the adapter came the next week. The customer service guy suggested I plug the adapter into the cable modem & plug my wireless router into the adapter. However, to my disgust, when I opened the box it was another Linksys piece of equipment. It was tough plugging that THING upstream of my router considering the problems I'd had with Linksys equipment, but I gave it the old college try. When I did this, (of course) NEITHER MY INTERNET NOR MY PHONE WORKED!! But when I ignored customer service, plugged the netgear router into the modem & put the adapter downstream, both my internet & my VOIP phone worked.

Voice quality is fine, even with this arrangement. The only problem I have is that sometimes when I speed dial numbers the connection isn't 100%. Sometimes I have to redial several times to get through. But I'd rather have inconstant outbound dialing with internet that consistently works.

Disconnecting vonage is a story in itself. I'm not used to raising my voice, but it's hard not to when you have said 10 times, "just cancel my account" & they are trying to foist you off on technical support to "help you". It took 45 minutes on the phone over the course of 2 calls to get vonage turned off. I guess they are leaning on customer service to keep the rats from jumping ship. Too bad.

It's been three months today that I connected w/ VYL. I am as pleased today as I was there first day. NOTHING has gone wrong. Anyone interested in going VoIP should look no further. TI really don't think there is another company that offers the level of quality product as VYL.

Was really Suprised

I don't normally write reviews on products or services but I am very impressed. I ordered my adapter on Wednesday and received it on Monday. Unfortunetly I was having internet connection troubles when I received it at no fault of voipyourlife. I finally got my internet back up and called customer service at 3am for some help. There techs were busy at the time, and they offered to call back shortly, but I was going to bed so I said I'd just call in the morning. When I woke up it worked great and you could tell that a tech had dialed into my adapter because the admin options we're suddenly password protected. I deal with a lot of computer, and tech companies and to be honest I am not used to companies following up. This was very impressive to me. I have only had the service up a couple of days now but it is working great and I am VERY happy with the voice quality (I was a little nervous at first). If your interested in VOIP this company is a good way to go.

These guys are good...

I was looking for another VoIP provider because Vonage lacked Anonymous Call Blocking. (According to other boards this has been "in development" since 2004 which makes me think they wont have it until 2010!)

I read the reviews on this site and VYL got good grades so I gave them a call.

Their sales office was closed when I called but they returned a message within two hours of opening. The gentleman who called (Brian ?) was knowledgeable about the service and how to configure it.

The web ordering was easy and the device arrived within two days (Sunday order, Tuesday delivery) which I consider very prompt.

I had installed Vonage already so set up took 30 minutes max (would have been less if I had read the instructions!)

These guys really have the call features that one needs - and setting them up is easy via the web.

Two really minor gripes; the admin website looks like vintage 2001 - it has the information and it all works but it gives the impression of a company that has less than it actually does which is a shame, and (ii) the voicemail system is rather non-intuitive and slow to respond.

Bottom line - if you want great call features and good customer service VYL is worth checking out.

Excellent service BUT...

I transferred service from Vonage. I don’t recommend Vonage to anyone! Service with VoIP your life is excellent. Quality, features, customer service, reliability and price are all great. My only problem is with porting my number. It’s been 3 weeks and 2 days that I’ve been waiting to have my number ported. Vonage tells me to give them a PO # to expedite it. VoIP says it’s Vonage that gives the PO's. Meanwhile, I’m paying 2 phone companies.

I've been in I.T. for over a decade and been dealing with PBX systems and telco lines for the past 6 years. I have to say I am VERY impressed thus far with the service from these guys. I'll have to come back in a few months for an updated review of this company but so far so good. I have been trying to get a client of mine's phone system to work with BBTelSys(Which was a 3 month NIGHTMARE). Needless to say they must be working out of their home because customer service was non existent. Now VoipYourLife on the other hand helped us get the voip account registered on our phone system in less than 15 min. This is how voip should be. It shouldn't take days, weeks, or months(in my case) to get something up and running. Wish I could give these guys an extra star because they freak'n deserve it...
