POOR SERVICE POOR QUALITY

Pros

This company makes me SICK. I am switching as soon as I find someone who will port my number from vonage. I am probably going to have to get an attorney involved because they wont release the number. They trap you into staying if you port your number and don't want to lose it. I am sooooo sick of Vonage. I was trying to go the cheap route but boy was I stupid. You definitely get what you pay for here. WAIT..NO actually I am gettin nothing and paying for it. NO service. disconnects all the time, can't call out, can't call in. Their server is down constantly, quaility is bad, bad bad. And the worst part is that customer service SUCKS. They have the poorest customer service I have EVER encountered in my life. Vonage should pay their customers to use their service it is so bad. If they paid me I still wouldn't want it. TERRIBLE< Anything would be better than this.

After Almost 3 Years

Posted on: Mar 21, 2007
Pros
Cons

As most here, I am writing this after yet ANOTHER outage where my business (law office) is dead in the water because of Vonage's unreliable service. In the past I have worked in the cmmunications field (cellular/CDMA) many years as an engineer. I am very well aware of typical uptime numbers for phone services, as this is part of what my engineering group was graded on. Simply put, Vonage is totally unacceptable as a phone service. My office has experienced several total outages within the past three months and we are now switching services.

Even if their uptime numbers were good, in the past 3 years that I have had service with them the online voicemail retrieval system continually times out and gives me an error that their server is busy. I have complained three times and was gives two excuses and on the last call, was told that I was wrong, that there was nothing wrong with their system.

DON'T use this service. You will end up switching. I'm taking my three lines and my toll-free number over to Verizon.

No Problems Here

Pros

We have had vonage for alittle over a year. We have had no problems with them. We had lightning strike our house and they even sent me a new adaptor for no charge. Had to threaten to disconnect service, but never the less they did it. The only problem we have is their customer service. If you need them they will answer, after you have been waiting for 30-45 mins. When you do get someone good luck! Over all we are happy.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY THAT IS A NIGHTMARE….CLOSE TO BE THIEFTS AND SCAM ARTISTS.

Pros
Cons

This company operated under the policies totally DETRIMENTALl for small businesses. First off, their system doesn’t support PBX capabilities and drops all the time. Secondly, their customer service is the WORST in the planet. In any given phone call to customer service you end up talking to 4-6 people with no solutions. They offshore their CS and IT services to the Philippines and India with people that unfortunately don’t know much about Customer Service, Telephony, or even English.

Additionally BE AWARE that they will try to charge you for connection and disconnection fees for apparent breach in their terms and conditions. Truth of the matter is that they are so inefficient that it took a month to get our number back. In addition to that they charged us for “GIFT CERTIFICATES” or “REBATES” that we never received or were mentioned about.

The phone quality of so BAD they cannot talk to your on their own systems.

The worst part is that THEY CANCELLED OUR ACCOUNT AND CHARGED US WITHOUT OUR AUTHORIZATION.

Watch out - Vonage has a $39.99 cancellation fee if you terminate service within 2 years, yet they insist they do not require a contract and that you can cancel at any time. You also have to use their specific router - you can't use your own if you bought say, a Linksys on your own.

nightmare

I had Vonage for over 2 1/2 years, I have been trying to cancel the service for 6 months. I called and cancelled, they never issued a credit and never cancelled. I found out when they again charged by credit card. I got no sympathy or money back when I finally after 30 minutes on hold got them to cancel my account which they charged me $40 to do, when the phone was not hooked up for 8 months, I don't even understand this!!!! What a rip-off disappointment. DO NOT DO IT UNLESS YOU INTEND TO KEEP THEM FOREVER AND DON'T CARE WHAT IT COSTS TO HAVE IT.

Lets start with the fact never received $50.00 dollar rebate.. Did everything right have asked for rebate processor to send back photocopies of what I sent in to prove that I was wrong but they refuse.. Contacted VONAGE about this and they will do nothing... Takes forever to get number transfered.. They say no more than 10 days BIG LIE... They say they will credit back for the MONTHS it took to get number transfered BIG LIE... NOTE: They say you have only 30 DAYS to cancel BIG LIE.. READ there information pack it is actually 90 DAYS.... VONAGE has the same attitude as SBC/ATT NOT WORTH YOUR TIME GO TO SUNROCKET...

Customer service

Pros

Just a thought,
I have read some of the complaints. One common thing I have noticed is the poor service being blamed on overseas help, such as india. How come it seems that the companies that advertise the most are the companies that have the worst customer service. Dell computer has the highest advertising, as well as, the poorest customer service complaints. Are companies so greedy that they could care less about customer service as long as they can have more to spend on advertising. Dell and vonage both advertise a lot, yet have the worst custome service. Just a thought.

The "We Gotcha" phone service

Posted on: Mar 09, 2007
Pros
Cons

If you try Vonage, DO NOT port your existing number to them until you decide to stay with them. Otherwise, if you decide to transfer to another provider you will have 2 choices: 1. Keep your Vonage account active until the number transfer takes place. It is almost guarenteed that they will not release your number until after your trial period. Then if you cancel after your trial period, that's when they play their Gotcha! card. They will charge you $90 for cancel/equipment fees + any service fees. Option 2 is what we went with so these crooks wouldn't get another penny from us. We cancelled within the trial period, but then they played their other Gotcha! card and they dumped the home number that we've had for 10 years. If I had it to do again I would keep the account open until my number was transferred out, then I would cancel the service, return the equipment, and then dispute the charges on my credit card. The credit card arbitration process can drag on quite a while, and it always favors you as the card user. Gotcha!

Worst customer service

Posted on: Mar 09, 2007
Pros
Cons

I don't suggest Vonage to everyone since you'll have a painful experience late:
1. Number transfer, it takes about one month, you must pay old service company and vonage, so 1st month free is actually not free.
2. Regular customer support: it is very hard to reach them and get real help. Most time you'll lose the connection in several transfers.
3. Cancellation: they hesitate to cancel your service by asking a lot of questions, putting more offers and wasting your time (took me about 40 minutes, I had to cut the line without confirmation.)
4. Refund: they refuse to give you refund, even you cancel your service at day 1 of the billing cycle, you still need to pay unused full month, no matter how long you are with Vonage. I filed a complain to FCC, no solution received yet.
