"Via Talk works outstanding and honestly how can you get a better deal? I have had Via Talk for two years, completely satisfied."
by Gerald
ViaTalk is one of the front runners in residential VoIP service. With its flexibile plans and ease of use, ViaTalk can provide top-notch VoIP service to just about everyone: expert to novice.
ViaTalk’s plans usually start at very low price, usually around $99 a year (they do charge state and local taxes, and an emergency 911 fee). That gets you unlimited calling.
ViaTalk doesn’t skimp on the features with that kind of plan, though; over forty features are included with each residential calling plan. You can manage your account via the Control Panel, forward calls and record them with Call Hunt and Call Record, and many more. If you can supply your own device, you can avoid a security deposit to maximize your savings even more.
ViaTalk also offers 24/7 customer service. If you have a question, don’t hesitate to call.

It's just ok for outbound calls. Inbound calls are a disaster.
Posted on: Dec 22, 2011Customer support is pretty good at trouble shooting issues. They have a lot of cool features you set up using the internet panel.
Reliability of incoming calls is horrible. I miss probably 80% of the calls (phone rings, I pick up, line is dead). This is probably why I made the first comment in the pros section. I spend a lot of time on the phone with tech support while they tweak this or that. Most times they fix it for a while, but then it happens again and I have to repeat the whole process.
The pricing is good, call quality is ok, but good enough for phone service. They have some cool features that you can set up using the internet control panel. The big issue is the continuing problems with incoming calls. They just can't seem to get the system to work right for any length of time.

ViaTalk review: Still a bargain at $12.54 monthly
Posted on: Apr 22, 2011Customer Service is 100% based in the USA. Unlike many VOIP providers who simply resell, ViaTalk hosts much of it's own infrastructure.
Lots of features that mostly work, but ViaTalk's custom programming around some of the features such as the "2nd line free" feature leads to some strange behaviors when used in conjunction with other calling functions.
Like most providers, Viatalk charges the usual regulatory fees, here is the list for my account for one residence line on the $8.47 plan last month in Illinois: Regulatory Recovery Fee $1.97, E911 Cost Recovery Fee $0.48, Communications Service Tax $0.15, Telecommunications Infrastructure Maintenance Fee $0.01, State Universal Service Fund $0.01, P.U.C. Fee $0.00, FUSF (VoIP) $0.20, TRS (VoIP) $0.08, E911 $1.25 Which makes my total montly fees $4.07, or 48% surcharge. Still a bargain at $12.54 monthly.

I switched to ViaTalk about a month ago, and have had nothing but great service.
Posted on: Mar 11, 2011Customer Service, English speaking CSRs Price & Features Ease of setup 2nd line!!!
None So Far
I switched to ViaTalk about a month ago, and have had nothing but great service. The quality is a little less than what I am used to, but nothing to complain about. I received the adapter within 2 days of ordering the service. After testing the service for a few weeks, I decided to port my landline phone number. It took about 3 days (AT&T) and there were no glitches or surprises.
Where I feel they really excel is in their customer service. I have had to call several times and have never had to wait for more than a few minutes. Their techs all speak English (although I think some of them are based in Mexico) and they are always to resolve my issues. I find them very friendly and knowledgeable and really know what they are doing.
It turned out that my adapter was bad, and they replaced it, no questions asked, and I had a new one in a couple of days. Everything is great now.
One suggestion - you will get a much better calling experience if you set up your adapter in your Router's DMZ. If you don't know how to do this, they will walk you through it.

ViaTalk: never have problems
Posted on: Sep 14, 2010Easy access, wonderfull customer service and technical support. Portability - softfone support. Inexpensive. COntrol panel is very intuitive. Call quality is very acceptable. Meaning we never had any problem with it.
Not that I know.
I use Viatalk for around 6 years. I never have any problem and if I need support, - like today when I was setting up my fax line, - I can call tech support person and get actual help without listening to endless messages. As it stands, - I 'd use any onther company but Viatalk.

ViaTalk unhappy customer review
Posted on: Jun 13, 2010Inexpensive.
The WORST customer service reps I have ever encountered. Stupid, obnoxious, unprofessional people who know how to copy-paste and virtually nothing else. If a company thinks having a rep chewing food and crackling wrappers is what should be on the front lines, well, God bless them.
Been using ViaTalk for two years now. If you must have a home phone, VoIP is the way to go. Just don't expect the same quality you had with your traditional land line, at least with this company. I had a lot of issues early on, mainly with calls dropping out(think cell phone service circa 1998). After that I had three or four days where my phone stopped ringing and people would go directly to voicemail. I've also had intermittent periods where call quality has suffered - echoes on the line, words repeating back 1-2 seconds after you speak, more calls dropping. If you can put up with that kind of stuff, fine. ViaTalk is cheap enough for me to just deal with it. I was with Sun Rocket before switching to ViaTalk and had similar issues. You get what you pay for and I don't care to pay any more than this for a home phone I don't use all that often.
I don't bother calling ViaTalk support anymore whenever there is an issue because they simply have never been any help. All I have ever received is the standard response to the effect of, "We are not aware of any issues..." Blah, blah, blah. You can read my comments under cons above. I guess management at ViaTalk isn't aware this is an employers' market in the current economy. They may want to monitor how their reps interact with customers more closely going forward.
When my current term expires I will likely try another vendor, they can't be any worse ... and I'm sure there will always be a cheaper deal out there.

Full-featured, high-quality phone service for less than $20 per month
Posted on: Apr 04, 2008Cheaper and more features than "regular" phone service
Can't think of any
I've been using the ViaTalk service for about 9 months, and I'm quite satisfied with it. I was forced to find a new VoIP provider when SunRocket dropped their customers like a bag of dirt. At first I thought I'd made a mistake in choosing ViaTalk, because of the poor voice quality (echoes and voice delays), but that improved after about a week. So, the bottom line is that for less than $20 a month, I have a full-featured, high-quality phone service.

Viatalk Review Not perfect but here is why I still rate it a 10 of 10
Posted on: Mar 08, 2008AwesomeVia – Talk Review Not perfect but here is why I still rate it a 10 of 10. My past companies have always paid for 2 phone lines for me – until now. I claimed to use my home number as a fax, so that I never had paid anything. I have been researching for a year or so, to save the company money as they are trying to slash costs like the rest, and hell I hope that we save lots…. My only problem is my need to sometimes to modem into another modem and no one except roadrunner seems to offer that unusual feature. I ended up buying a specialized program for my cell and now using that, but it is cumbersome. Here is the quantifying factor – it is sometimes not plug and play and takes more maintenance then an expensive landline. For example my wife loves it, but would return it if she had to call support a few times and tweak things herself, she also would be in tremendous debt if not for me. My new unit arrived DOA, the next one was fine and while testing it for a month, I did lose 1 line, I needed to call tech support and they stepped me right through. Since then I noticed that call block *67 did not work every time, they then fixed it. So far I have been using it for over 2 months trouble free. The quality is very good, I did have to hand up on 2 different calls and called back – and the connection was great. Surprisingly we tested it, having 2 teens at home who seem to always be downloading something, we used both lines, had 3 different computers downloading very large files, during peak times and have NEVER had a problem. I though for sure that our bandwidth would suffer. Now the clincher. My bills averaged $130 per month after taxes, fees …. I waited for their $200 special for 2 lines for 2 years. Savings of over $2,800 - EASY choice. Even with the $200 you end up paying only $240. I especially hate overpaying on utilities where the politicians get a piece of the action, plus Comcast and Verizon contribute huge amounts of cash everywhere to remain a monopoly. The system is so corrupt and I would next love to replace Comcast and peco electric – someday…. I have read negative reviews on Via-Talks support but they have been great, and I have used them a few times. EVERY time I had a live person who speaks great English, unlike many others. Go Via-Talk !!!!!

Research and UNDERSTAND the Technology
Posted on: Mar 07, 2008See comments...
None whatsoever.
Notice to all negative posters on this forum / blog - you are in the minority.
People that post to these blogs / forums are always angry. I am here to dispell the myth, at least on this forum / blog, that ViaTalk is not the evil empire it's being made out to be. Read on.
I have had nothing but a great experience with ViaTalk. I don't know anyone that works for them, nor do I live in NY (I'm in MN, if you must know). I have no connection to this company other than being an extremely satisfied customer.
I didn't know a darn thing about VoIP prior to signing up -- all I knew was that Comcast was too much money for a REGULAR phone ($35 a month for ONE phone line, including having to pay for blocked calls, and an unlisted number)...keep in mind, this is a REGULAR phone line, NOT DIGITAL. Comcrap digital is $40+tax, at least here in MN.
That said, I, like millions of other unsatisfied Comcast phone customers, began to research VoIP technology, its pros, its cons, home infrastructure requirements, and how to set it up. It took a few solid evenings of poking around on the Internet, reading about VoIP technology, how it works, and how to set it up. It also took many solid evenings of looking at reviews, both pros and cons.
After solid research and thorough understanding of VoIP telephony and setup (it's really not that hard people), I settled on ViaTalk. Not only does it offer WAY better options and features than Vonage or SunRocket (at the time they were still in business), but they blew Comcast Digital Voice off the face of the map...and they still do!
I suggest you have Comcast or Verizon or some other form of HSI backbone, rather than DSL, because if you're surfing the internet at "high speed" (1.5Mpbs, pfffff, whatever!), checking email, download from an FTP, and expect to use both of your ViaTalk phone lines at the same time, good luck. Get a solid cable HSI backbone to your home network and you're good to go...unfortunately, I have to pay Comcast...but that, at least of the negligible Comcrap offerings, works.
Final thought -- to this day, I laugh whenever I get to the end of a Comcast tech support phone call (because guess what? Comcast's digital TV SUCKS TOO!!! So Comcast gets a phone call from us every couple of months) when they try to sell me their digital voice for $40 / month + tax. I glibly retort, "can you get me 2 phone lines and all of these features for $10 a month?". The operator always laughs and then says, "Thanks for calling Comcast".
Bottom line, research, understand, then buy...blindly jumping into VoIP, or any other of life's "bigger leaps" will make you angry, upset, and post non-descript, bashing, and uneducated posts to blogs, such as this.
Here endeth the lesson.
