Juliet: Hello, how may I help you?

Patrick: Hello, what is the reasoning for the $9.95 yearly fee for porting a phone number?

Patrick: I can understand the initial fee but not the reoccurring fee

Juliet: Let me assist you with that.

Patrick: This is the message that I get during registration when selecting port number: "You will be billed a transfer fee of $19.99 today, then $9.95 annually after the first year."

Juliet: Yes, number porting has a yearly fee of 9.95 dollars; it is for the maintenance of the phone number.

Patrick: why is that different then the maintenance of any number? When I ported my number from AT&T to Timewarner I did not have to pay a yearly fee?

Juliet: I am sorry to hear that.

Patrick: If I choose a new number will I have to pay a maintenance fee also?

Patrick: sorry to hear what?

Juliet: No.

Juliet: If you choose the free number, no charge for the maintenance for that.

Patrick: So why is a ported number different? After a year, if I cancel my service? does the number go back to time warner?

Juliet: In order to transfer a number on your magicJack to a new provider, eligible requests should be initiated by your new service provider, who will coordinate the transfer.

Patrick: that is not what I asked.

Juliet: Yes, you still can go back with your old phone provider.

Patrick: i did not ask that either. I am trying to figure out what this maintenance is that a non ported number does not have.

Juliet: It was system generated, that number porting has a yearly fee of 9.95 dollars.

Patrick: My question is, if I cancel my service and do not port my number to another service, do you keep the number in you pool of available numbers or does does it go back to time warner so that they can give it out to someone else.

Juliet: Okay.

Patrick: what type of answer is that?????????????????????????????????????

Juliet: It would still registered in magicJack is it will not requested to port out.

Patrick: so then where is the maintenance?

Patrick: I am just trying to understand the difference.

Patrick: So by your logic, if i cancel and someone else gets the number, then they should have the same maintenance fee.

Juliet: Once you continue using the magicJack with your existing phone number, the yearly fee for maintenance will automatically apply.

Patrick: again, you did not answer my question.

Juliet: Any transaction for number porting will have a yearly fee for maintenance.

Patrick: WHY????????????????????????????

Patrick: These are not hard questions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Juliet: One moment please...

Patrick: I am just starting the trial period and this is not a good start. If I can not get a valid answer for a simple question, what can I expect when I have an actual problem?

Juliet: Thank you for patiently waiting.

Juliet: May I know if you already transferred your existing phone number to magicJack, Patrick?

Patrick: No, I have not. I started the process and got to the message about the yearly fee and stopped.

Patrick: It is currently asking for my number and current carrier.

Juliet: I see, can you just register your magicJack with the free number that was assigned from magicJack and if you can decide you can port your phone number afterwards.

Patrick: I am currently deciding if I am just going to return the device.

Juliet: I see, okay. I will respect your decision about this matter.

Patrick: What is soooooo hard about answering a simple question????????????????????

Patrick: What is the actual reason for the maintenance fee?

Patrick: and just stating "because you ported the number" is not a valid reason.

Juliet: I believe that was the only reason I can give to you.

Juliet: I have not heard from you in a while. Do you wish to continue this chat session?

Patrick: I see no valid reason in continuing this since you are not allowed to give valid answers.

Juliet: I am sorry, but that was the only reason, I believe.

Juliet: Since I have not heard from you for some time, I am going to close this chat.  If you need any help in the future, please do not hesitate to chat with us again. Good bye
