I just cancelled iTalkBB after 3 years of use to switch to OOMA, which has superior call quality over the same exact internet connection (I have a fast fiber-optic one).
iTalkBB's price ($28/mo) is now average compared to other competitors. But it's so expensive compared to OOMA (no monthly fee ever afteryou buy the equipment for about $200).
Customer service is what did iTalkBB in. For example, it took me 3 tries on their terrible customer service phone system to get through to them. Good thing I speak Mandarin because the English menu doesn't provide a way to talk to human at all. One I got through to request the cancellation, the agent ignored my repeated request to cancel and kept trying to sell me to stay. It took a good half an hour to finally get her to do it. Now I am waiting for the e-mail confirmatino. I have a feeling she didn't really cancel it and I will have to go through it again. When asked to speak to a manager, she said to call back again and ask for one. What kind of service is that?
Stay away from iTalkBB if you are thinking about it. If you have it and like it, stay with it. To cancel, be patient and use the Mandarin menu when you call. They will not handle cancellation requests by e-mail or over the web.

I've referred three of their canada unlimited services, with little or no issues. Easy to install their pre-programed voip boxes, and ported in two existing numbers. One port took almost 2 months and another took only 2 days. Porting in general seems to be hit and miss. They have free porting for a limited time and no deposit on their adapter - can't beat that! I prefer to deal with customer service via email but have called them as well. I've tried a few of the low cost voip providers and italkbb is now my favorite ! Their service contracts are designed for long term... 1-2 years so do read all their cancellation policy if you "aren't sure." I have Roger's express internet and all the voip providers I've tried have generally worked fine.

If you do not speak Chinese (the various flavors thereof), avoid this service. I had a lot of issues initially because of this. I signed up for a '30 day trial' on their website (finding that little button which changes the site content to english was a pain), and they thought I wanted the phone adapter delivered after 30 days. Why on earth would anyone put a request like that? Anyway, once a Chinese friend of mine spoke to them on the phone, they understood, were apologetic and shipped me a box right away. The box took another 7 days to arrive during which time I made the mistake of calling customer support. The one sentence in English instructs you to press 3 for support; the moment you press 3, it throws you right back into Chinese menu. (I finally figured ot the right key, but it was not easy). Finally, the box arrived, and it was defective. The Linksys adapter's lights would not come up when I plugged it in. But this time, all the effort fiddling with their IVR paid off - I managed to get to support. Once I got there, they understood the problem and shipped me another box right away. Since then I have had uninterrupted service over my cable broadband provider. The voice quality is nothing to write home about, but its acceptable and I finally got rid of AT&T. I would recommend Vonage. Because of their large customer base you hear bad things about them, but I am sure overall they have the same quality as italkbbb.

When I first use iTalkBB it gave me a number but my neighbor need to call as long distance number. 1+phoneAlso no one mentioned that I need to have dsl service to use it.I call to complain about it they said they don't have my local phone area code ... ... and asked me to wait. After 2 months I called back to ask for cancellation then a guy told me they can go to buy a local phone area code for me and asked me to wait for another 2 weeks. Why don't they tell that they could buy local phone area code at the beginning and let me keep waiting??.. that's very bad service ...

By the way, I used iTalkbb for a long time. I did not find problem for pushing in any number after the call is connected

If you dial into a 1-800 number and try to input your pin or password, it cannot be recognized. If you want to cancel your service, it is very hard to do this.

I have used COMCAST, Cisco, and some other VoIP Phone Services. iTalkkBB is above the average quality. The customer representatives are extremely friendly without any wait time. The unique feature they provide is the concallback from China and Hongkong. Hong Kong is recently added in March. In April, the Global Advantage Plan promotion includes unlimited calls to 26 countries and from China on the home phone and 2 mobile phones. The promotion code, 791610+8991117127, gives you the above features, plut $15 discount at the registration and $15 rebate after registration.
