BroadVoice is a VoIP service provider based out of Massachusetts.

BroadVoice offers an Unlimited world plan for $20 a month. Within the plan, you get Unlimited calls within the United States, a boatload of advanced features, and access to the BroadVoice Internet portal.

Additional Information on Broadvoice

BroadVoice offers both residential and business VoIP service, which means that they run the familiar game of allowing themselves to determine whether or not you have a business or residential account. Unlike most of the other VoIP companies, Broadvoice has a lot of 'penalties' attached to their Residential Use of Services.

For instance, if you exceed their limit (not stated) of minutes used by a residential customer per month, BroadVoice can charge you $100 to switch your account over to a business account and then start charging you 5 cents a minute, retroactively, for all the calls it feels that you have made in violation of the Residential Terms of Service. Yikes!

Broadvoice also charges a $5 regulatory recovery fee for its international plans, under the explanation that they need to pay regulatory fees to the various countries that they're expanding too. Sure…

We may have the wrong idea of BroadVoice: let us know. Write a review.

Stay away from Broadvoice!

Posted on: Feb 27, 2012
Pros
moderate price
Cons
worst customer service

This service is not worth its money. There are so many options out there. Customer service loves to hang up on you when they do not know any further. Don't even try sending an email. It is not going to be responded. Don't bother using their shiny comments to management, they do not care. Customer service claims to have never heard of Siemens phones. I chose Broadvoice for the international flat rate and wanted to love them but now my credit card is charged every month and I cannot even use it.

We used Broadvoice for 4 months. In those 4 months, the service went down MULTIPLE times

Posted on: Jul 13, 2011
Pros
Cheap, easy setup
Cons
Customer Service, Connection Reliability, Company as a whole

We used Broadvoice for 4 months. In those 4 months, the service went down MULTIPLE times, lost our connection, it would come back periodically. When this would happen, I would attempt to contact Customer Service and was waiting on hold for 30 min + sometimes, by the time they would answer the service would be back up again and wouldn't get anywhere with support. Sometime I'd just give up after being on hold for so long. After talking with support they only had a few suggestions and wouldn't help out any further. Terrible company, terrible organization. I would never recommend anyone to use them for serivces, it doesn't work! look at the other reviews, their employees have no clue!

BroadVoice: changed my plan

Posted on: Jun 24, 2010
Pros
Was a good service for almost 2 years.
Cons
Calls to certain locations would automatically disconnect after exactly 15 minutes.

I've had the Unlimited World Plus Plan for almost 2 years. Received an email indicating “possible abuse” from them and that they had changed my plan due to “more than normal activity”. I explained that my wife makes international calls to her family regularly (as she's done for almost 2 years thru Broadvoice) and was recently out of the country visiting them for about 6 weeks. I asked them to compare current activity to activity prior to March. They did and agreed to restore my plan on the phone, but later sent another email saying I'd have to agree to some terms before they restore my service. I agreed to continue to pay for the service I've had since Oct '08, but didn't agree to their new plan. So, they charged my credit card about $70 (in addition to the $42 monthly payment already charged 2 weeks ago). I filed a dispute yesterday with my credit card provider.

Broadvoice for VoIP

Posted on: Mar 02, 2009
Pros

Cheap, easy to set up

Cons

Tech support has no clue what is going on with the rest of the company because management keeps them in the dark. The people I have talked to have been nice....but haven't really got a clue when regional outages occur.

My business has been using Broadvoice for about a year now.Broadvoice is one of the less expensive VoIP providers. The number porting occured relatively smoothly for us, the set up was relatively pain free, and the service is reasonably consistent. I would say I get dropped calls about once a day/2 or 3 days a week....and we are a business, so we are on the phones pretty often. The sound quality is good, and the features like too free, auto forwarding, blocking calls, etc is very good.Recently, Broadvoice experienced a service outage in Chicago...this one was so bad that there was no work around available, and it was so bad that the tech support number in Chicago wouldn't even work. When I called the NY tech support line, they were not aware of the problem. 24 hours later, some of the tech support was aware of the problem, but many weren't. And they were not getting any info from "management" on ETA of issue's resolution. 48 hours I called again, got someone in tech support that was not aware of the problem because it "hadn't been emailed down the system" to tech support. I even emailed, rather than call, tech support...they claimed there were no outages. Now, 72+ hours into the problem, tech is aware of it, but there is no ETA and no info regarding the outage. No work around is offered.Broadvoice will save you about $10 a month...but the tech support is awful. Not because tech support itself isn't good...but because they are all kept in the dark about what is happening with the rest of the company. Even their emails and phone calls to headquarters go unanswered.I would say try at your own risk. The porting will hopefully go smoothly, and hopefully there won't be any outages. But, if there are outages, you should definitely have a backup plan, because Broadvoice will certainly not have one.

I have had Broadvoice for almost 2 years and am somewhat satisified. Its good, not the best, has great usability, but its costing me $32 a month (on the $19 plan). They say it only cost $19 but then they hit you with all like of fees!
