Magic Jack - We've all heard the saying, 'You get what you pay for,' and it's become increasingly clear that magicJack is no exception. Sure, it appears to be a small, crafty device claiming to change the world of communications for a ridiculously low annual fee, but the reality is you may find yourself down and out after ordering from this company.

Magic Jack

Pros: Price, ease of installation, sound quality(if you have quick and reliable connections), unlimited calls and long distance.
Cons: Slow connections not recommended(dial-up), old/slow computers not recommended, and sound quality is decreased with low quality equipment.

I too was skeptical at first about this new service that was being offered on tv and on the internet on the Magic Jack. Researched several reviews in the internet on the product and it received many good and bad responses. I decided to purchase one through Bestbuy. Unfortunately, I was unable to get any information on what the return rate was for the Magic Jack. So proceeded to purchase the product.

As soon as I got home, opened the package and followed the simple instructions. Installation was a breeze and registered the product to get my number (opted to assign me a number instead of the extra charge for a number of my choice). So far for the one dropped call earlier, it has been good. I do notice a slight delay like a cell phone. Currently using a uniden DECT 6.0 with a total of 4 wireless system hooked up and the overall experience has been above expectations.

I do know my way around computers, I enjoy building them and avoid the complex part of trouble shooting programs, other than that you do not need the same skills I have to get this product up and running just simple knowledge of installing programs and following directions.

I am with Comcast and have fast and reliable connetions. Uploads speeds are anywhere from 6-12 Mbps and Download are 1Mbps to 3Mbps.

So my experience with Magic Jack has been good unlike many other who have the opposite.

magicJack

Pros: cost
Cons: none as of yet

I was really nervous about trying magicJack, with all of the negative reviews I have read, $40.00 is a lot of money for a family of five, but I finally gave in and went to Wal-Mart and bought it today, very easy to use and set up I was up and talking in about 5 minutes, so far no problems, a little bit of static and some echo but the quality is still better then my quest land line. It’s only been 1 day but so far so good, I will post again if any problems arise.

What a crappy product. MagicJack is horrible.

Pros: Nothing
Cons: Dropped calls, Phone calls not coming through, static, echo's, horrible customer support, etc.

Reviewed by: NoelleM (xxx.xxx.26.16)

My husband and I purchased MagicJack about a year and a half ago. The first month we had it, we didn't have any issues, but after then, it's just been one problem after another. We've gotten dropped calls, calls that won't come through (people get told that the number can't be reached), echo's, static, can't make phone calls etc. We've contacted the technical support (if you can actually call them that) numerous times. I've followed their instructions to supposedly fix our issues to the letter, but nothing has solved the issues we've had.

We've ran the MagicFix, upgraded each time there is an upgrade but still the problems persist. They even sent us a new MagicJack device which was supposed to solve the problems we've had, it didn't. In fact it seems worse then the first one, if it's possible. Between all the problems this phone service has given us and the lack of good support, I'd highly recommend NOT wasting your money on a product that isn't worth your money. Stay away from MagicJack, it's just a ripoff.

MagicJack, a Good idea or just another scam?

Pros: None at all
Cons: Never workrd

Reviewed by: Anonymous (xxx.xxx.160.187)

I purched a MagicJack from Radio Shack and Notified MagicJack that I didnot require for them to send me a MagicJack and signed up for their 30 day "Free Trial". That was a big mistake. They charge me $50.00_ before I even got their junky unit. OH well. You get what you paid for. Big lots would at least sold you a working unit. After installing their software, the problems started. The phone number they assigned me never worked. I was no longer in service. The phone never rang and remained dead even though there was a dial tone. Then the computer started to reboot itself and many things quit working. Tried to contect their Tech Support and It felt like talking to a peanut vendor. Trtied to Opt out of their service and got the run a round. I found it time to notify The BBB, The Florida Stata Attorny, The FTC, The FBI and the News media about this scam. I also made sure that Symantec and Microsoft were made aware of their fraudulent business practices. So I finally received my RMA and are sending their unoppened junk back. I wonder theough if I will ever see my money returned. So my recommendatyions is: DO NOT PURCHACE MAGICJACK, rather use your existing service. The cell worked fine for many years, and the land line is still better that their overblown and over rated junk called "MagicJack" The only magic about it is that it rips you off. And many of us thought Vista was bad. Get rid of the MagicJackBLOKES!

Customer Service Really Doesn't Care at MagicJoke

Reviewed by: Cautious Consumer (xxx.xxx.195.156)

I bought a magic jack about two weeks ago. The quality is spotty. Sound to other person fades in and out. But most importantly, I had to speak with three different customer service agents (online, of course) … and I got three different answers to a support problem. When I finally got someone on a higher tier, he said that I had been given incorrect information by one of their customer service reps (they work from their homes), and that the company would not stand behind the problem resolution offered by their own employees. We’re talking $20 here, but even their higher tier support people don’t have the authority, or the business sense, to back up their own employees. I was told that the “offending employee would be sanctioned”, but that the company would not stand behind the solution that was proposed to fix my problem. I think they just don’t care what the customer thinks/experiences once they’ve made the sale. It was like talking to a rock. Their “customer service” is an oxymoron. No wonder American businesses are having a hard time competing in the marketplace, if they don’t back up their own words with actions. $20 is worth more than customer satisfaction. I’m glad I saved the transcripts of the service reps “chats”, where they acknowledge their own mistakes, but refuse to “do the right thing” with the customer.

MagicJack - don't! Use a land line.

Pros: price - (but you get what you pay for)
Cons: Reliability, customer service

Reviewed by: keithfrank (xxx.xxx.103.140)

Reliability - sucks. Customer service - sucks.
I have two phone lines for my business that use MJ. I have had them both replaced because they failed after a period of time. It was not easy (i.e. painful) to get the replacements. Both have now failed AGAIN. I am AGAIN struggling with their very poor customer service to attempt replacements. AGGH!

Sound Quality

Reviewed by: GoNavyMike (xxx.xxx.138.146)

The only real problem I've found is the sound quality to devices is terrible. I've used a couple of cordless phones, just echoed/echoed/echoed and stut-t-t-tered. I even used my Bluetooth but it would not pick up sound half the time, even when I was mere feet away from my PC. So I've broke down and decided that the only good thing is a mic/headset (Corded). It seems to work fine. I've also changed the skins too.

Now as for all y'all winebag complainers of MJ. Most of everything I read is that most of y'all do not follow instructions that are printed on the package and are on the MJ website. I did, and as stated above, the only problem I've had has been the sound quality with other devices (Phones-Bluetooths).

If you wish to respond to MJ by sending it back, then do something like this: Put it in a small box with a note, put that in another box with a note. Do this several times and include notes in each box and when MJ gets it, they'll have to see each note in each box before getting to the malfunctioning MJ. Oh, and use the receipt by signature function at the USPS, that way you know they got it. And don't throw your receipt away.

Now as for me........I'm going to enjoy my MJ. READ!!! READ!!! READ!!!

MagicJack - Highly Unreliable

Pros: Price
Cons: Voice quality, highly un-reliable

Reviewed by: davidran (xxx.xxx.247.75)

Simply put, it doesn't work well and highly unreliable. I contacted support multiple times to try to resolve many problems I'm experiencing. Customer service was helpful but I don't believe they are being honest. I asked them if they are getting a lot of the calls with the same problems and they said No. I asked if the problems I'm having can be fixed and they said Yes. It's hard for me to believe that since I'd try to resolve the issues many, many times with them and read many of the reviews with the same problems. A great product idea but it just doesn't work like they advertise. Some of the problems you'll experience are: 1. The other party can not hear you and they complain that your voice fade in and out. 2. When a call comes in, sometime you cann't answer the phone. 3. The line sometimes goes dead in the middle of your conversation. 4. Sometime you cann't make calls to some numbers. 5. You'll get buzzing noise in the middle of your conversation.
