I like my MagicJack!!!
Posted on: May 14, 2013
Pros
I've had my MagicJack for 3 years now, and WILL continue to use it!!
I winter in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico and rely on my magicjack to make long distance calls home to family and friends!
MANY expats here in Mexico use magicjack and report NO problems with theirs either and regularly recommend it to
new expats who have moved here or who are thinking of moving here as an affordable way to keep in toch with family!!
Cons
I've only once or twice ran into problems with my MJ. I believe that it probably had more to do however with my internet connection being weak both times as Mexican internet can sometimes be hit or miss depending on whether you are in the city or on the beach!
I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEMS WITH MY MAGICJACK!
In fact, I have been so happy with it, that I often buy them
as gift to give to family and friends who use their cellphones
exclusively!!
Cons
Unreliable
CALLS AND FAX transmissions are crackling and disconnect without warning
MJ tells you that once you pay the fees and plug in their device your calls are paid for. WRONG!!!
Numbers you previously called for "free" then later require you to PAY to call them, even LOCAL calls!
If you have paid for several years of service ahead of time, they cut off your service at the one year date anyway and claim you did not pay for additional years. You will feel like an attorney who has to prove your case with "all kinds of "evidence" before your service is re-connected. Then at the next anniversary they cut you off again and you have to go through this all over again.
There is no customer service e that you actually talk to , it is instant messaging and they disconnect if you point out something is wrong.
Two tin cans and a string would provide better service.
I never should have wasted my money on this mockery of "phone" service. It was a complete waste of time and money.
Horrible customer serivde.
Money grubbing dishonest company.

Pros
Works for awhile
Cons
Seems great at first but when it suddenly fails expect no help from customer service. I was on chat for 45 minute a transferred 4 times disconnected once. Then when I told them to keep their piece of junk, then they blew up my email with 20 password reminders with 2 minutes, just blew up my email after i told them off and disconnected. Apparently someone on there end threw a tantrum after I told them what they could do with their piece of junk. Whoever runs that company better get some eyes and ears in to CS. Is pretty scarey to know these idiots have my cc info, and all my personal info and are already using it to play games.

Pros
Cheap, works fine. Convenient to use elsewhere.
Cons
I've used MJ for several years. With previous isp and phone it sometimes disconnected calls. With current isp and different phone the last 5 months, no problems at all. Perfectly fine voice quality and reliability. I consider it a true bargain and would hate to lose it.

MAJIC JACK - EXTREMELY POOR SERVICE
Posted on: Apr 17, 2013
Pros
When your service doesn't work, there are no pros.
Cons
Drops calls, garbles your voice, it won't dial certain numbers, it will disconnect you randomly whether you're speaking to someone or in a holding pattern to speak to someone for service where you may be on hold a long time. You can only use chat to express complaints. They make a false attempt each time to resolve complaints that keep you in chat for hours at each session.
Everything is state in the "Cons" section. People may think it's okay if they have a cell phone as a backup, because just maybe they can use MJ sometimes. It cannot be counted on in an emergency since it does not work consistantly. I have seen other VOIP with better reviews. This product should not even be on the market. For some reason, the BBB says they are okay, because I think MJ tells them they have customer service. The real key is, do they resolve problems, and they don't.

Magic Jack is impossible
Posted on: Apr 14, 2013
Pros
cheap, if it works
Cons
awful customer service, and my home phones don't wokr and the cell phone application is hard to use.
This is the biggest waste of time and money ever. You can't tell on your cell phone whether or not you are using your magic jack number or your cell number. My home phones don't ring most of the time now that I have magic jack. The voice mail is cumbersome. The customer service is chat only by people who don't have English as a first language, and are vague about where they are and what their native tongue is. They don't read what I write carefully, so I have to repeat the same question over and over. I have spent hours on this, and they do not process my request for a refund.
Pros
Works as claimed by MagicJack. No negative issues for educated consumers. "MJ+" is especially functional. MagicJack provides all necessary details of the system requirements. Most international calls are of high quality too (except maybe third world countries due to low quality phone systems).
Cons
Customer service is not particularly helpful or insightful.
EDUCATION: I didn't like the fact that a non-technical consumers (with little or no understanding of "Voice Operated Transmit" (VOX) and/or tight wad consumers (not willing to purchase decent internet service and/or a satellite phone system) are led to believe that this is a plug and play system.
Cons
Customer service is awful. They tried to sell me a replacement ( charges were only for handling and shipping, they said) when mine was working through my usb port. When I confronted them with that fact they disconnted me and when I tried to get back on to talk to customer service they had blocked my number and had a prompt on there saying I didn't need customer service and only needed to replace a part. Be prepared if you, and you will, need to contact them because you will be on line for over an hour to try to get any type of help.. Also be aware that they charge $32 to port out your phone number to another carrier..
Do not purchase this product. A friend recommended it to me before they had a chance to see exactly what happens with their customer service. If you don't mind being on line for over an hour and trying to get multiple people to fix the problem ( usually with no results) then this would be the product for you.
Cons
poor customer service chats. Poor reliability in software. Audio breaks up on the receiving end. Does not start every time computer is booted up outrageous fees $20 to port phone numbers to them another $30 to leave them and port the number to someone else.
I can't think of anything good to say. The straw that broke my back was an hour and fifteen minutes on chat and all we did was discover that my blue light was on, My Magic Jack was plugged in without the extension cord. And my key pad displayed "stock symbol CALL" to indicate latest software. They really give the consumer the runaround I hope I am included in the class action law suit Magic Jack really deserves to lose.
Hi there, I just wanted to elaborate on the magic jack review that is posted on VOIP Review already..
I feel like the review doesn't do the product quite enough justice.. since yes, you do really get what you pay for, but in the end, if magicjack fits your needs, then great! You get a cheap device at an awesome price.. Anyways.. onto more of my ranting..
I just wanted to say, that I've used my magic jack on 5 different computers now, to test the ability for it to work on different kinds of computers. On mine, we have Vista, and it certainly needs some help with compatibility issues. They really need to come out with some upgrades or updates, or something, because it's ridiculous how many times the software crashes.. But that could also be blamed on vista, so eh, that ones up in the air.
On XP versions of windows, everything seems to be tested and working well though, so go figure.. On a comcast cable internet connection, things got a little choppy when we were using the computer at the same time as the phone, but overall, everything functioned fine, and worked decently, so eh.. Another decent test..
I'd say try it out, it's definitely worth it for the price, and if you don't need super high quality voice. It's similar to a cellphone, depending on your connection.

After 3 weeks using Magic Jack, I made 51 calls one day, and they shut down my account. They refuse to do anything, saying I violated their TOS. Sure enough, if you make more that 50 calls in a day, you will be automatically shut down and lose your money. Let's hope you don't encounter a busy signal and then keep retrying the call. I wondered how Magic Jack could sustain their business model. Now I understand, they take your money, then shut down the account, then go get another sucker. Stay away from Magic Jack.
I purchased a MJ online and it worked great until I updated for Windows Vista. I went online and got RMA number to return it and sent it back to the company. No hassle, they immediately issued a refund check. Impressive!! My brother had one that worked great so I bought another one and I have had absolutely no problems (did not update for Vista this time). None. It is crystal clear voice quality. You do have to manage it though. If your computer shuts down for any reason it should restart automatically, but if it doesn't simply unplug it and plug it in again and it will restart itself. My wife and I both have cell phones and we don't use our home phone a lot but it's so nice to have and so cheap...what a great value!!
I use Vista and tried unsuccessfully to get Magic Jack to work. After about an hour working with online chat and 2 different techs they said the only way to fix it was to let them have control of my computer. That wasn't going to happen. So I am taking mine back to Best Buy tomorrow to get a refund. I am not computer illiterate and I pity the poor person that doesn't know their way around the computer. They will be totally lost.

This product is junk! You get what you pay for, and Magic Jack is no exception. Calls are constantly dropped or not received at all. Occasionally, the software will be updated which resets your voice mail message and password. It feels good to know people don’t leave messages for who knows how long because your voice mail was reset to a generic message saying you have reached a Magic Jack customer. Magic Jack will not tell you when this happens; good luck figuring it out on your own. When you do finally realize this happened, be sure to take full advantage of their terrible customer service. At best, they are not helpful; at worst they are rude. I didn’t realize they were doing me a favor by sucking at their job. There is a reason the only way you can contact them is by chat. They do not want to open themselves up to the barrage of phone calls and letters from upset customers. Save yourself a lot of trouble and pay the $20 a month for a basic land line.
I have used the magic jack for a month now. I will not bore people with the same complaints that others have posted. I will stress the points they have not. My number one concern is that they are all about money. You can go to the magic jack website and see for yourself. There are a ton of things for you to click to give them more money. There is very little to click to justify it or get any real help. This should be a big enough red flag for most people. I do not like the fact that there is no way to stop the software from popping up every time a call is made or received. If you are using your computer as a computer (suprise many of us do and just not as a phone system) it will crash one or both of the programs. I do not like the fact that you can not ajust the number of rings before it goes to voice mail. They say it is set to 4, well the caller may hear 4 but you will only hear 2. This is not good unless you camp out next to the phone or walk around with it in your hand. After you jump through the many hoops to finally get online support, you are just told that "we are sorry but there is no way to do that". What they will do is tell you about extended plans (again to take your money). What really bothered me is they kept saying that the calls were free. If they are free, then what is the $19.95 for? There answer was always "well after you pay for the service". Well this can be applied to anything. So all phones are free, to include cells phones (once you pay for the service). I have a VERY fast connection (average speed of 35 Mbs). I say this only because I have read other post that the many problems are not due to the magic jack but people trying to use it with to slow of a connection speed. Mine is fast and the sound quality, number of dropped calls & the like are to many to mention.
The bottom line is that the price might be inexpensive but the product & service is cheap. This is not a VOIP like others provided by cable or phone compaines. This is a VOIP that is on par (well not even as good as) many truly free messenger programs that use a pc as a phone service. Save your money and use those as they are free and can do all the things mentioned that magic jack can not.
These are great points about the device, and should be taken to heart. When the magicJack is connected to the PC through the USB connection, there isn't always a guarantee that the computer will recognize it, especially after shutting down and turning the computer back on. You may need to mess with it a bit, unplug it, plug it back in, but then it will be good.
We teach sailing, do charters and rent boats.... every $ we spend has to be watched.
We needed a phone line in our marina offices to process credit cards. We called MY and they said the MJ was not recommanded for use with credit card processers.
BoA said they dont support MJ. So what do we do? Buy a MJ.
Since March our M's have processed 4 of 5 credit card processes on the 1st attempt and 100% by the 3rd time. Not bad for $2 a month.
The little calling we do on this thing work.... okay. Louder would be better. But I have yet to be charged incorrectly or have technical issues that were MJ's issue. Dont be running Netflix at the same time you want to run a credit card on Brighthouses's slowest speed.... or you have a problem.
So FOR OUR use.... they get a good review. But I can see this is not for everyone.
Best of luck, may the winds be to your back and your seas be calm
I think that the introductory statements in this thread are blatantly incorrect. MagicJack does not cost $39.95 per month!
The initial charge of $39.95 includes the cost of the USB jack plus the year's subscription of $19.95.
Having said that, I have found the call quality very good to excellent. I have asked listeners from distant states if they detected any problems with the quality of the connection and they have affirmed that quality was "fine." I anticipate improvements as internet speeds continue to increase in our area of Montana.
I have noticed, however, that the interface screen can be very sluggish at times, typically after my computer has been inactive for awhile. I have set my laptop, which uses an i7 Intel processor, so it does not go into sleep or hibernation modes. Nevertheless, my early experience makes me think that I should reload the MagicJack software every AM.
This not only requires unplugging of the unit from the USB2 port, but also restarting the interface app. Each of these processes requires about a minute or so, a fact that seems to be recognized by the MJ splash screen, "One minute of patience for a lifetime of savings!" or something of the sort. Upon reloading, which amounts to a hard reset of the MJ unit, speed is increased. Typing numbers into the field to place a call is speedier. MJ recently came out with an upgrade that promised to make the unit work better with Windows 7. They recognize the problem, but I think there is more to be done. In my situation, however, the annual cost of $19.95 for unlimited calling within the USA, along with voicemail and call transferring, makes this solution well worth the money. If you place a lot of calls, this might not be your best option, but for occasional usage (sending and receiving calls), it's hard to beat!
I'm in the middle on this one. When this unit works, it works great. When it doesn't work, it's a giant pain in the butt. And the downside of it all is that you can't get any real customer service from these people. The "Live Chat" is a nightmare.
I've had this unit for a year and a half. Every time I re-start the computer, I have to re-boot the unit. That's fine - except half the time, it doesn't open Magic Jack and instead is trying to sell me a product called "Magic Talk" and won't load my numbers or log into my account. I finally re-plugged the unit into another USB port and it worked fine for a while. Today, I can't get it to boot at all and it's wreaking havoc with my Mac. Knowing it would be bad, I sucked it up and logged into their live chat.
I was given 3 different answers to the same question and no answers to others, no matter how many times I re-stated the question. The chat log shows the date as tomorrow, so I have no doubt that "Ken" is really Rasheed Patel from India taking calls from his hut on the Yangtze River. They won't tell you what their warranty period is. One rep told me it was a $20 replacement fee for the defective unit and "Ken" merely charged me $9.95 shipping and handling and replaced the unit at no charge. You have to wait 3-5 business days before they ship it out and then wait for snail mail from Calcutta. All the while, I have no phone. In the middle of the conversation, he asks, so this is a refund, right? NOOOOOO! ARGHHHH!
Like I said, for $19.95 a year, it's a little hard to complain when it works right. When it's not working at all, no amount of money is worth having to deal with them. If I had it to do all over again, I'd have gone with another company, but since they're replacing the unit, I'll stick with it until my subscription period is up and move to a far more reliable form of communication.
My advice? Don't do it unless you have a ton of patience.

Hi, my complaints mirror the above. There are better solutions out there than MagicJack.
There are workarounds to some of the issues, but is it really worth all the trouble -- I think not! MagicJack's page does have a "MJ RECOVER" feature that does actually work when your MJ has crashed.
Some little known facts about maximizing your MJ experience is that you should never use a MagicJack on a computer that is portable, such as Netbooks, Notebooks, etc., because the USB ports on these devices will go to sleep and, when they do, so will your MagicJack, until you unplug and reset it or turn your computer off and back on again. There is a workaround to this issue, however, if you go into your Device Manager, scroll to the bottom to USB ports, choose your device, right click it, choose Properties then the tab that says Power Management, then uncheck the option that says allow the computer to turn this device off to save power, press OK. This is not such a great idea to do on a portable computer because it will has a direct negative effect on your battery life.
To the issue of avoiding pop-ups when a call comes in, the workaround is to have a separate computer, used for nothing but your MagicJack, hard-wire it to the internet, and use that computer as your telephone server only, rebooting the server at least once a week to avoid the call quality issues. Any old thrift store computer will work for that purpose. That brings me to another issue: MagicJack should never be used with a Wireless Connection to avoid degradation in telephone quality.
And finally, another issue (at least with the 1st and 2nd generation MJ's) is that the MJ caused your CD/DVD drives to malfunction whether it was plugged into a mobile computer or desktop computer, you would find that you could no longer read or burn CD/DVD media in the drives that were attached to the unit your magic jack was plugged in to. MJ company denies this, but I replaced drives 6 times in different computers before determining that MJ was the problem. I still have the computer, but new drives that haven't failed since I stopped using MJ about 4 years ago. I use comcast bundled phone service now simply because I need the internet and cable anyway and it was cheaper to add basic phone service to that bundle than another service like MJ.
So if you're thinking about MJ, please don't do it unless you have a dedicated desktop computer you can use with the service, you only use a wired internet connection (through a hub or router is actually okay) and the computer doesn't have any DVD or CD drives in it that you will be using.
If you are already using MagicJack and it crashes frequently, download the MJ recover tool that you can use each time your MagicJack crashes from and run it, following the prompts. If all else fails, go to tech support chat.
Only My 2 Cents about MagicJack.

Reading the comments has trubled me; I am not one to de-grade a product simply due to opinions. What I have learned and have no addresed issues are as follows;
1 A broadband connection of 3MBPS or higer is required; the fster the speed the better, like RAM
2 No one stated knew or attempted to remove a file directory of the C drive on a PC or the preference file in a Mac;this solves issues in most(not all cases) I have no reviewer stating this or attempting to remove this file- the file is MJ for both platforms; the magicJack in order to work has to have a "clean directory" meaning no conflicting software to screw it up! I am not backing the product, I see no solutiions posted from anyone to "self resolve" the issue" With regards to area codes the more local not rural you are makes a real difference.
I am not stating a view or giving a comment; I do not have a MagicJack, but I am receiving "zero" solutions from posters condeming the product.

Steven E. Davidson: How many minutes per month do you receive?
Stela: Could you please be more specific so that I can assist you well?
Steven E. Davidson: I cannot find this info on your website
Steven E. Davidson: How many outgoing call minutes does a customer get per month with the annual subscription?
Stela: I see.
Please be informed that we offer free calls with magicJack.
Steven E. Davidson: How many minutes are free?
Steven E. Davidson: UNlimited?
Stela: Please wait while I check that for you
Steven E. Davidson: This is a simple question. I cannot be the first person to ask this question.
Stela: May I know if you have a magicjack device?
Steven E. Davidson: Not yet. I will soon be a new customer.
Stela: I see.
Steven E. Davidson: Why can't you provide me a direct answer to my question? How many minutes of calling time is permitted on your plan?
Stela: One moment please...
Steven E. Davidson: What is it? 300, 500, 4000, unlimited?
Steven E. Davidson: This should be easy to answer. Other VoIP providers publish this information on their websites for customers see before purchasing and makin the committment.
Stela: Actually, we have no specific limits on the call time but the system only offer free calls and not unlimited calls to avoid the abandon use of the service offered by magicJack.
Steven E. Davidson: How can I determine if the service will meet my needs if there is no specific limits but, it is not unlimited calls. What is your criteria for "abandon use?" I want to use for personal calls at home, not business calls.
Stela: I see.
Stela: One moment please...
Stela: I appreciate your patience.
Stela: There was a TOS article called "magicJack Device and Software, Terms of Service and Software License Agreement" that was presented to you on the third window of the registration process. The wizard will not allow you to proceed to the next window by hitting the orange button at the bottom that says "Next" without you checking on the box that says "I have read and agree to the Terms of Service.", which signifies and tells us that you have thoroughly read and agreed with the terms indicated in the document. Activating a service with magicJack will always involve agreeing to the TOS.
Steven E. Davidson: So, what is the number of minutes? I do not want to be cutoff from service because magicjack believes I used used too many minutes. How can I mangaed to magicjack's expectations of what they believe are reasonable useable minutes for a customer if I do not know what that numer of minutes is?
Stela: Under 6. Proper Use it says "If magicJack sees excessive use, including but not limited to, a customer whose usage is twenty (20) times more than the average magicJack's customer's usage, or a customer who calls more than 50 different telephone numbers per day, or systematic or intentional misuse, it reserves the right, in our sole discretion, to terminate your use of the magicJack device and/or Software immediately, and you will not be entitled to get a refund of any licensing fee or any other fee you may have paid to us. We reserve the right to reclaim any telephone number that does not make a call for a consecutive 90 days. In the event we reclaim a phone number and your software license is still active, you may choose another phone number."
Stela: That is only one of the terms of service when you buy a magicjack.
Steven E. Davidson: That helps somewhat but, how do I know what "twenty (20) times more than the average MagifJack customer's usage" is?
Steven E. Davidson: I will read the terms of use before making a decision but, I am already frustrated that MagicJack does not provide maximum minutes allow per months.
Stela: I understand your point there, Steven.
Steven E. Davidson: Thanks for your help today.
Stela: You are most welcome.
Stela: Is there anything else I may help you with today?
Not as easy as getting in, and expensive! It started with the $39.95 + $19.95 + $10.00 to port my number plus shipping so I'm out of pocket $70.00 but covered for the year. Device arrives and I go thru the hoops to get it installed and figure out how to use, not that complex. Quality of the calls was horrible, like a cell phone from the late 80's early 90's, an absolute joke. So, Sprint sends me a deal that uses cell for landline and since our cell service is fine I figure I'll give it a whirl. Contact Magic Jack to port my number over to Sprint and they won't release it until I pay $30.00 'porting' fee. Bottom line - I'm out $100.00 for something that was absolutely worthless.
I SPEND ABOUT 2 TA 9 HOURS A WEEK TROUBLESHOOTING. AS OF RIGHT THIS SECOND TODAY SO FAR I HAVE ALREADY SPENT 5 HOURS TROUBLE SHOOTING WITH THEM ONLINE. 4 TIMES THEY TOOK CONTROL OF MY COMPUTER BUT THEY KEEP LOOSING THEIR CONNECTION. IAM STILL WAITING FOR A TECH AND IT HAS BEEN 5 HOURS.
I HAVNT HAD A PHONE NOW FOR 3 DAYS. IF YOU HAVE 2-10 HOURS A WEEK OR MORE TO TRY TO GET IT TO WORK, THEN THIS MIGHT BE FOR YOU.
RIGHT NOW IS THE THIRD DAY IVE BEEN WORKING ON THIS. I MISSED OUT ON MANY THINGS BECAUSE OF MAGIC JACK.
IF IT WORKED THE WAY IT SHOULD, IT WOULD BE GREAT, BUT IT DOESNT. ITS KIND OF SCAMMISH BECAUSE IT DOESNT WORK HALF THE TIME.
TONS AND TONS AND TONS OF PROBLEMS. I USED WITH NEW COMPUTERS AND SOME OLDER ONES AND ITS STILL THE SAME. I OWNED MJ FOR 2 YEARS AND THIS HAS BEEN MY EXPERIENCE. OH, THERE ISNT A NUMBER TO CALL EITHER.
Ok so I originally bought a Magic Jack, despite its limitation of having to be plugged into a computer that is on in order to work. Now they have come out with the Magic Jack Plus and it works with or without a computer so I want to upgrade.
I check to see if they have an upgrade program and am told no that I have to pay FULL PRICE and can't even transfer my existing years of service that I have left over. I tell them how unfair this is for loyal existing customers that have bought the original Magic Jack in good faith believing this was one of the most and best cost effective way to make calls even though it couldn't be used without a computer. I also tell them that to advertise a product as that best most cost effective method and then develop a new product that can call without computers and expect customers who bought the other product in good faith to pay FULL PRICE to upgrade is just A SCAM!!!
Magic Jack is A SCAM!!! DO NOT buy ANY Magic Jack products EVER!!!
This is my comversation with Magic Jack Techs on Saturday, 11/19/11. I have been with them for 4 years now, and have talk to them several time over that 4 years. Not one time have they been helpful!!!!! I still have the same problems. Other than changing my phone number, this Chat is word for word. Do not buy Magic Jack equipment. The saving, if you could even complete a call, the runaround, and loss of time, (I am talking about many hours, each time you need to call,) is not worth it!!!!!!!
Please wait for a site operator to respond.

Honey: Hello, how may I help you?
Henry: Many problems
Honey: May I know what seems to be the problem with your magicJack device?
Henry: Magicjack will not stay connected to the people I call. It goes dead after 4 to 5 minute
Henry: and I have two numbers, and it doesn't show up in my account
Honey: Since when have you been experiencing such problems?
Henry: Many months. It is always hard to get thing done with my MJ. And it takes a lot of time from my day.
Honey: I apologize for the inconvenience that you have encountered. Please bear with me as I help you with this.
Henry: ok
Honey: Do you still have the magicJack device that has this number "(508) 000-5209"?
Henry: Hey a question. What this new thing, you advertise you need no computer?
Honey: That's magicJack Plus.
Honey: We called magicJack Plus as "can be used with or without computer" because this device works even though your computer is OFF.
Honey: You will still need a computer with an Internet connection when using magicJack plus because the router will matter on this connection. However, your computer is now possible to be turned off and still make and receive calls using your magicJack phone.
Henry: Yes, and xxx-xxx-xxxx
Honey: Can we fix the first concern first before proceeding to magicJack Plus?
Honey: This might not resolve the problem if ever you will get confused on a certain number.
Honey: I mean, about magicJack Plus device.
Henry: That would be great. It might eliminate the computer, if the computer is causing some of my problems
Henry: yes
Henry: To get back my MJ I have disconnect the USB, and reconnect
Honey: May I know the magicJack phone number on the device you're using right now?
Henry: xxx-xxx-xxxx
Honey: Okay.
Honey: Is your magicJack currently plugged into your computer?
Honey: Please click on the link above and hit RUN or Save.
Henry: still do it?
Honey: Please run it this time.
Henry: ok
Honey: Take your time.
Henry: up and running. Why do I have to logon these days?
Honey: Henry, did this number "xxx-xxx-xxxx" displayed at the top of your magicJack dial pad?
Henry: yes
Honey: Okay.
Honey: Did it ask to enter your email address and password?
Henry: Yes, I just asked why do I need to login these days?
Henry: Where do you go?
Honey: Please enter your email address and password.
Henry: I DID< READ BACK
Henry: I did I did
Henry: i did
Henry: i did
Henry: wait for you
Henry: waiting for you
Henry: now you know why I have waited so long to get in touch with you guys
Henry: SLOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
Honey: One moment please...
Henry: I have told so many people in the early years of being with MJ, how well it seem to work, and the service is VERY SLOW
Honey: I am transferring you to one of our top 10% agents as rated by our customers. Please hold while I transfer you.
Please wait while I transfer the chat to the best suited site operator.

Hero: Hello Henry, may I ask if you are still using the USB Cord for your magicJack?
Henry: yes
Henry: I have two
Henry: same slow service
Hero: Please unplug your magicJack device and transfer it to other USB ports available. Try not using the USB Extension cord if your using one.
Henry: I have a few here and earlier and many days before
Hero: Okay, what I meant for the cord is the 6 inches cord that is attached between the device and the USB port itself, the ones that came with the device.
Hero: Are you still using one?
Henry: I can make calls, but they get droped
Henry: yes I get it
Henry: with and with out
Hero: Okay, are you using a Cordless phone?
Henry: no

Hero: Okay, please try placing a call again.
Henry: ok calling
Henry: i am talking, to see if i get dropped
Henry: just got dropped
Henry: not even a minute
Hero: I see. Thanks for verifying.
Hero: One moment please...
Henry: and now the dial tone will not come back unless I unplug and replug
Hero: If you're using a telephone, please click on the MENU button on the softphone then Volume/Headset Control, make sure the option "Telephone" is chosen.
Henry: it wasn't on Telephoine, but is now, but still no dail tone
Hero: I see. Have you tried hooking another telephone handset for your magicJack?
Henry: yes many times before
Hero: I see. For troubleshooting purposes I need you to disable firewall and the antivirus software momentarily.
Henry: I just tried another phone, still no dial tone
Hero: Do you have a cellphone this time?
Henry: yes
Hero: Alright, we'll do some tests this time.
Henry: want me to restart MJ
Hero: Please remove the telephone handset that is hooked to the magicJack.
Hero: Then dial your mobile number from the dialpad check if the mobile phone rings.
Henry: phone unpluged
Henry: calling and it is ringing
Hero: Now please hook the telephone to the magicJack and dial the mobile number through the handset, check if cellphone rings.
Henry: I can hear myself on the speakers
Henry: I didn’t plug the phone back in
Hero: Please try to plug it back in and check if cellphone rings.
Henry: I plugged the phone in, and I cant hear anything
Hero: Okay thanks for verifying.
Hero: Have you tried hooking the device to another computer and checked if same issue persists?
Henry: done, cellphone rang but still nothing from the plugged in phone
Henry: only one computer
Hero: I see. So the cellphone rings when dialed from the telephone, but no audio is heard from the handset?
Henry: not by phone but my MJ pad
Hero: Okay. Thanks for verifying.
Hero: One moment please...
Henry: phone it self is still dead
Henry: If I unplug and replug it will work
Henry: the phone will work again'
Hero: Can you try doing a quick restart on the dialpad , go to menu >> advanced >> restart.
Henry: now the only way to resTART IS TO UNPLUG REPLUG
Henry: trying the update
Hero: Thank you for waiting. I'll be with you in just a moment.
Henry: it says, warning , you must plug M J into usb
Hero: Please unplug your magicJack device and transfer it to other USB ports available.
Henry: so if I unplug the usb and replug it will work
Hero: Yes, please try to do a reseat this time.
Henry: says the same thing
Hero: We will update your microsoft system files. Make sure the magicJack is plugged in.
Hero: [Link removed]
Henry: a new usb port didn’t work , so I unplugged the MJ from the usb pork and repluged, and now it is up and running /with dial tone now
Henry: I click here, now what
Hero: Please Save and Run the MsFixit.
Henry: ok
Henry: done
Hero: Restart the magicjack software phone now, go to Menu > Advanced Users > Restart. Let me know once back in.
Henry: Fix it is asking me to restart the computer, should I do this first
Henry: MJ is up and running and dial tone is there
Hero: I see. You may do that later after our chat session. Please hit no this time and restart the magicJack only.
Henry: okay
Hero: Please try placing a call.
Henry: MJ is back up and I am trying a call now
Hero: Take your time.
Henry: call was droped in 15 seconds
Henry: and dial tone gone again
Hero: Okay, thanks. May I ask if you have another computer this time?
Henry: I don’t
Hero: May I ask if you have can access your router settings?
Henry: I don’t know how
Hero: I'm sorry for the delay. I'll be right with you.
Hero: I have been checking you line here since the get go, and there is really nothing wrong with your account and line, all settings and parameters are normal. Most likely is is more of a setup issue on your end. So to complete apply the Fixit you may need to perform a quick reboot after our session. Unplug the device from the computer and hook it back in once the computer has completed the boot up process.
Hero: I would also suggest to try to connect your computer to the modem, bypassing the router from the setup. There are lots of cases that router block magicJack ports causing audio to appear one way, blocked and staticy/breaking up. You may try it after our chat session.
Henry: this is the same poor service over the years with you
Henry: How can I get one of your no connect throught the computer
Henry: I am connect right to the modem
Hero: You may order a magicJack plus via our website - magicJack.com or by calling this number - 1-800-509-1709.
Henry: There some numbers in New Hampshre I cant get through to
Henry: I have two of MJ units, how about helping me out by you giving me one of your new units
Henry: for years of bad service, and frustation
Hero: If you wish to purchase a magicJack plus, you may need to purchase the device in full amount 69.95, the hardware was designed differently from the regular magicJack, the new device has a Free one year plan included.
Henry: THx You done all you can NOT, I all ready have two units
Henry: Isn’t there anyone I can talk to, or can call my home phone number
Henry: seeing that my MJ doesn’t work
Hero: Okay, if you sensed that the magicJack device is causing the issue, we can provide you a replacement device for only 9.95, with this option you can have your existing MJ phone number and its remaining subscription period ported in.
Henry: I have two units and both are not working very well in or I think just in New Hampshire. How would the same unit work better for me? I am thinking maybe the Plus unit might work here in NH better.
Henry: Can’t someone call me, like the owner
Henry: like I said before there are some phone numbers in NH I can’t even get MJ to go through
Hero: May I ask what exactly do you hear when calling NH numbers?
Hero: Do you hear a prompt?
Henry: It goes back to a dial tone each and every time
Henry: no prompt
Henry: I wish you were here
Hero: I see. I can submit a report for that. It is not a device generated issue. Can I have at least three numbers that you cannot call out, please?
Henry: xxx-xxx-xxxx here is one
Henry: 603 any New London, NH phone numbers
Henry: xxx-xxx-xxxx
Henry: So there is nobody who can call me?
Hero: Thank you.
Hero: Do you happen to know their common phone carriers?
Henry: Is there any one
Henry: no, I think TDS
Hero: Okay, thank. I want to ask if you have made successful calls within this exchange in the past?
Henry: About two years ago it was better
Henry: IS THERE ANYONE WHO CAN CALL ME?
Henry: this is sad
Hero: Okay, this time I may need to escalate this concern / query of yours to our Engineers, for them to check on this matter personally, they will be the one who will monitor and take a closer look on your issue. Can I have the best email to contact you again?>
Hero: We'd love to help you by phone but as of the moment we only do support on chat. Please do not worry as our chat is recorded on our system making it very easy for the next tech to assist you with your concern when you come back again.
Henry: I have been typing to you guys for many years now and no help or no one will to call me.
Henry: Should I just start my own Blog or post on the Internet, how poor your service is?
Henry: Your Company just don’t care
Hero: I am currently completing the report as we speak Henry, your NH calling issue is not device or computer generated, I will escalate this for you.
Henry: I will just save this chat and share it the world
Henry: I see Mr. MJ cannot stand behind his product, so the product is not that good. Maybe just a hit or miss.
Hero: Thank you for the time you have given me. I am done with the report on your issue and have forwarded this to our higher department already. Rest assured that you will get fine results on this matter. You will also receive an email notification for that as well.
Henry: Like how I have been told for years now that the New Hampshire phone exchange will here any day now.
Henry: 603
Henry: I have to use a Mass. phone exchange
Henry: I think it has been close to 5 years now
Hero: I understand Henry, I have checked our database as we speak. We do not have NH exchange available this time.
Henry: I can't call local friends and family, without them hanging up on me seeing a Mass. phone exchange. How unfair.
Henry: And there is nobody who can call me
Henry: Customer service
Henry: where is it
Hero: We use Tech Chat to better assist you. By using Tech Chat, we can send you instant upgrade links and run several diagnostic tests, that cannot be done over the telephone. We are also able to see where you are located, what OS and Internet browser you are using.
Henry: I've checked your database for years now as well
Henry: Why haven't I been refer to them?
Hero: I will be right with you.
Hero: Thank you for waiting. I'll be with you in just a moment.
Hero: Thank you for waiting. I'll be with you in just a moment.
Hero: If this may have caused any inconveniences and complications on your part, we are terribly sorry to have overlooked this fact. It's in magicJack's best interest to resolve this issue without any further delay.
Henry: without any further delay. “laughing,” I have been waiting for years now! LMAO
Hero: I will be right with you.
Hero: As for your Local calling issue. We do not have an exact time frame as to how long it would take our telco engineers to come up with a resolution but I can assure you that they will look into this as soon as the report is read. You will receive an email feedback regarding the issue once it's fixed.
Henry: Even for a $1.70 a month, I haven't got my moneies worth
Henry: right
Henry: monies worth
Henry: LMAO
Henry: HOW about the tech help?
Henry: lol
Henry: I have been told this for years now!
Henry: I'm sure you will hurry. lol
Hero: As for your dropping calls issue, please do try my earlier suggestions first.
Hero: Since this is more of an audio issue, to further locate what might have caused it, I would really suggest - if possible, to try to hook your magicJack on other Computer, so we can see if there is really something on this computer that might have blocked the incoming signals. If the device works fine on other computers, we can say that issue is computer generated.
Henry: It is hooked to my computer. LOL
Henry: Two years ago it was on a slower computer, and had the SAME problems. So I went to a faster one, and still the same problems
Hero: Okay, if that is the case we can provide a replacement device for you for only 9.95, you will be keeping the same number and same account info and the remaining years will be transferred as well.
Henry: I just didn't write for awhile, because I knew, but hope that this time might have been different, and I would or you would finally really help fix the problem.
Henry: I have to pay. LOL
Henry: I have another unit which doesn't have milage on it and it does the same thing. LOL
Hero: I understand, as a default a replacement device costs 10 plus the shipping fees, so that would total to $20.91
Henry: 10 plus, what is 10 plus
Henry: oh, I get it
Henry: I have to pay, for another unit, that most likely have the same problem
Henry: You people are too funny
Henry: Cost and shipping for the same unit, too funny
Henry: and then I would have three of them.
Hero: That is why I offered the device for only 9.95.
Henry: The same unit
Hero: I'm sorry for the delay. I'll be right with you.
Henry: Here is one even funnier, send me a PLUS unit for 9.95, and hope that fixes my years of very poor service, and maybe the PLUS unit would better service most of MY problems with the old units or the one you want to send me.
Henry: Its called customer service! Making THE CUSTOMER happy.
Henry: For years now I have been unhappy!
Hero: That is not possible, we can only send a PLUS replacement device if you have an existing magicJack plus, we cannot process a PLUS device if your existing subscription is the regular device.
Henry: Maybe it is just New Hampshire, and maybe you shouldn't have know that parts of NH would not work
Hero: Thank you for waiting. I'll be with you in just a moment.
Henry: LOL of course you can't. I am done, your not sending me to TECH, so I am done. I will just send this chat with you over the Internet, and tell in person as many people I can how poor your product, and most of all your poor/lack of service.
Henry: I have waited for years for a New Hampshire exchange. Look back over the years I have tried to work this out with you, and other issues!
Hero: I'm sorry for the delay. I'll be right with you.
Hero: I will be right with you.
Henry: When this product first came out, I was one of your first customers. So I can share this with the world, as well with Wal-mart, Best buy, ETC.
Hero: I understand where you coming from on this matter Henry. But we are going in circles here, if you have time please do try my suggestion first and check if the line works normally. If not we can say that issue is on the device itself.
Since we haven't heard from you, we must release this chat. Please click here should you need further assistance: www.magicJack.com/techchat

And you disconnected me. Thank you for the great service, NOT!!!
It sounds to me, what's happening to you is the same that happened to me. Let me first start off by saying I'm a network administrator by trade, and see this type of thing all the time. It sound slike what's happening, is that the Stateful Packet Inspection in your router is ON, it needs to be OFF. If you shoot me an email, I can help. Majic Jack is a voip servvice, and if you're sropping calls like that, then either your router is inspecting packets, which slows down the response time, and results in a dropped call.
I had a Speedtouch that did this no matter what voip service I used, as SPI had to be disabled. Now, USUALLY you CANNOT just disable by logging into router and disabling firewall. This is an advanced feature, and to disable have to use telnet. SO for my device. Drop to cmd, and run telnet ip of device. ie: telnet 192.168.0.1 (or whatever the ip of your device is).
Next use same password you use to login to webadmin to manage router. Now you're logged into the CLI of the device (command line interface). If you google the make/model of device and "disable packet insepction, or disable stateful packet inspection" you should find the command to disable, mine was:
>firewall SPI disable
That was it. Now my router isn't inspecting packets, and my calls don't drop.
You should also confirm with your ISP that they are not shaping traffic, if they are, you shiuld let them know you are using voip service, as this sometimes requires the ISP to move you into another ACL that allows voip.
Shoot me an email if you have further questions. g_brossault at hotmail dot com
the account you're using doesnt have admin rights, right click run as administrator. Should resolve error 3. U may have to boot into safe mode (f8 just before windows loads, when u turn comp on), then logon with administrator, right click computer, choose manage, local users and groups, groups, administrators, add the account you use to members. Click ok, reboot. Right click the setup and run as administrator. Goood to go.
I have used a Magic Jack for two years, and have had hardly any problems with it. I've found a couple of toll-free numbers that wouldn't go through, and had some issues with a dying hard drive that caused my call quality to suffer. Once I replaced the bad drive, no problems at all. I will drop from a lengthy conference call maybe once a month, about the same as my cell service. since the Magic Jack goes through my PC, if I'm doing something that's using a lot of processor or hard disk power, that can cause voice quality to degrade.
I recently upgraded to the Magic Jack Plus, so I could avoid PC issues that impacted call quality. This still needs some work done on it - I can't keep it connected to my router, but since it's not connected to the PC, there's nothing to tell you it's NOT working until you pick up the handset to dial out. The only thing that resets it is to unplug and re-plug it. Anyone trying to call me will go straight to VM, and no way to tell that I have missed the call until i check the VM. If I can't get that straightened out, I'll be back to using the original Magic Jack; two years and still going strong with that one.
I'd recommend the Magic Jack without hesitation; Magic Jack Plus is one I'd wait until they get the bugs worked out of before I'd recommend to anyone.

Ive had both the Magic Jack and the Magic Jack plus and overall have been happy with it. To have a number while overseas that my family can call anytime without the hassle of international fees is great. Its like im still in the states as we talk all the time.
since ive had the jack ive only had one issue thats bothersome to me. I cannot call to landline phones that have the same area code as the one I have. i can however call cell phones and recieve phone calls from landline phones with the same area code. as for other area codes I can call and receive calls to both cell and landline phones with no issues. This would be alright but when calling grandparents who dont have or want a cell phone makes it hard to keep in touch. Ive attempted to have this resolved but get the same as most of you have with the non existent support they have. ive even made a suggestion to just issue me another number with an area code i would never call as i have full access to other area codes. their response is that i would have to buy another number. since then ive been told the engineers will contact me and have yet to receive an email. below is my chats.

Abigail: Is your magicJack PLUS device with you right now?

Abigail: I see.
Abigail: Is the magicJack plugged in now?

Abigail: Do you see the dial pad?

abdul: yes

abdul: all info is still in trusted sites the my magic jack and the reg.talk4 free site
Abigail: I see.
Abigail: have you tried using another telephone to your magicJack?
abdul: yes and also tried using a headset and still the same issue
abdul: all calls to cell phones go through with ease though
Abigail: I see.
Abigail: Please try plugging the magicJack to another computer.
abdul: did that to all 3 computers in my home already
abdul: still the same issue
Abigail: If that is the case, kindly wait for the email from our Engineers, Abdul.
abdul: that is my only issue now the engineers have taken a very long time now. over 3 weeks
Abigail: If you will not receive an email, please chat us back in then.
abdul: and no one can give me an answer as to when they will be complete.
abdul: that is why i contacted the chat again as my first inquiry dates back to sep 3
abdul: now its nov 9.
Abigail: Please wait it until now, Abdul.
abdul: obviously i wont get any help soon. what info do i need in order to return the plus
abdul: can you provide me with this
Abigail: Please click the link below
Abigail: http: //my.magicjack.com/returns.html
Abigail: Is there anything else I may help you with today?
abdul: thank you. hopeully they will find the solution soon. in the meantime i will request that all magic jacks on my military base be pulled for fear that other soldiers will experience what i am experiencing. its not good for soldiers to pay for communication and not be able to communicate
abdul: thank you for your time. i await correspondence from the engineers
Abigail: I really appreciate your understanding over the matter, Abdul.
Abigail: Have a great night.
abdul: not understaanding just being forced to settle
Abigail: Still, I really appreciate it.

Maya: Hello, how may I help you?
abdul: yes i am trying to find out the status of a workorder that was supposedly placed on my behalf
abdul: the last two issue IDs i have are LTK554014277248X and LTK554014265418X
Maya: Would you mind giving me a few minutes to review your previous chats, Abdul?
abdul: i have yet to receive an answer as a fix to my problem from the technicians.
abdul: only if it doessnt take too long. sat and waited for 20 minutes the last time
Maya: Thank you for patiently waiting, Abdul.
Maya: As I have checked it here on our end, our Engineers are still checking on the report that was made regarding the problem on your magicJack. Please extend your patience and wait until someone will get back to you through email for updates for this problem.
abdul: i cannot extend my ptience any longer as theyve been working on the issue since sep 3 and now its nov. ive already done the work for them letting them know that the problem lies with me calling the same area code as my number. the simple solution would be to try a number with a different area code to see if that works. because as of now i can call landlines with different area codes
Maya: I understand your side on the matter, Abdul.
Maya: My apologies for the long wait.
abdul: i have the old magic jack and the new and both are having the same issue. so issue me a new number to see if that fixes it
Maya: Unfortunately, we don't have any time frame and further details about this matter. Rest assured this will be marked priority on their end for you. Please check your email for any notification about this issue.
abdul: i do as i copy all correspondence with the dates and you do have the capability of tracking when an issue arose as i have in the correspondence an answer to my question as to what you guys were tracking as to when my issue started
Maya: You can change your magicJack number on your account portal at my.magicJack.com, Abdul.
abdul: if i can call other area codes with no problem why cant we just issue me a new number that i would never call within that area code
Maya: I cannot guarantee that changing of magicjack number will fix the issue,
abdul: yes i know i can change it but refuse to pay for something that is a technical issue. im not going to pay your company more money for an issue that your acknowledging
abdul: understand you cannot guarantee but that will give us more fidelity as to what solutions have been tried. as of now no solutions hae been offered to me except to wait on an email im sure i will never receive]
Maya: My apologies but we cannot waive the fee as this kind of process is system generated.
Maya: The issue is not with the number, Abdul.
Maya: It is a routing issue,
abdul: well that the first time anyone has said what the issue is. can you explain more.
Maya: I understand the urgency and importance of this to be straightened out, Abdul. Please do not worry, I will make a follow-up report regarding the matter to expedite the issue.
abdul: i have to worry because i cannot call my family who only has landline capabilities
abdul: during my last conversation i did inform them that i will request to have your product removed from the military exchanges as they are faulty so i will move on with that request
Maya: My apologies but we do not have further access to such details. The calls are not properly routed, that is why you cannot make calls with your magicjack.
abdul: soldiers who buy this will naturally pick a number within the area code of where their family lives. if they do this then they would possibly have this issue. because its taking so long this is grounds for removal as it places the soldier in a situation where a product they paid for does not work at 100% capacity
Maya: I understand how frustrating the issue has become, Abdul.
Maya: Please do not worry, the issue will be resolved. We will send you an email notification as soon as our engineers have found out the resolution to this problem.
abdul: ok your not reading my past correspondence. i can make calls to cells and landlines outside of the 605 area code. however i can only call cell phones in the 605 area code. i can receive calls from all numbers. what upsets me is the people i need to call only have landline phones. so the only issue is me calling landline phones in the 605 area code. simple fix would be to have a temp number issued to see if it works instead of making me wait for over 2 months for a solution. this is entrapment as your company waited until i past the 30 return policy
Maya: Yes, I have read your previous chats, Abdul.
Maya: My apologies but we do not have an exact time frame as of when the issue will be fixed.
abdul: can you not see that is the same answer ive got in all my correspondence and nothing has occured. why can i not speak to someone that has the authority to fix this instead of being pawned off on personnel who seem to get paid to stretch out the issue
Maya: In as much as I want to fill you with this, we do not have further access to such details.
abdul: ok well maybe the military lawyers need to get involved with this as this product cannot be allowed to remain in the exchange stores with an obvious flaw that is known by the company and because the company is not making it a priority to get it fixed
abdul: i will provide all detail to them and request this tomorrow as this needs to be elevated to the next level. so if the CEO of the company doesnt mind possibly loosing military sales then i guess you wont have to fix the issue
Maya: I understand and respect your decision, Abdul.
abdul: well you have a nice day
Maya: You too!

abdul: trying to get some answers on an issue your technicians were working since september
Tasha: Hello, how may I help you?
Tasha: May I know the exact nature of your problem with full details please?
abdul: cannot dial out to a landline phone within the same area code as my magic jack number
Tasha: Please wait while I check that for you
abdul: here are the last chat IDs i had if that helps LTK554014265418X, LTK554014277248X, LTK554015121513X
Tasha: I am checking
Tasha: As a supervisor I know that this is my responsibility to straighten things out. You have been promised by previous agents that this will be taken care of but still nothing has been resolved yet. Rest assured that this time this will be fixed. I will follow up this matter every now and then so that I can be sure that this will be taken care of. I know how you feel right now. I understand that the situation disappoints and frustrates you. We will work on this so that this issue will be fixed as fast as possible.
abdul: ok just would like for someone to try the possible solutions i put forth
Tasha: Please do not worry your issue will be resolved as soon aspossible
abdul: hope your right cause ive been hearing that since september with no results
Tasha: Is there anything else I may help you with today?
abdul: so your not going to work the issue now?
abdul: how will i be notified of the fix
abdul: the agents keep saying i will be contacted but as youve read no one has attempted to contact me yet despite the many chats
Tasha: Abdul, I have forwarded Followup report to Engineering department. You will be informed to your contact email as soon as possible
abdul: well i have no confidence in your engineering department so i guess i will go forth with the next step. if you would be so kind to pass on to the execs that a request is in the process of removing the magic jack from military exchange shelves. if they would like a copy i am more than willing to share
abdul: you still there or are you done
Tasha: I am here,
Tasha: I can understand your issue very well and Please do not worry this time you will be informed to your contact email
abdul: can you give me a period. few days, week, another month or two. i can understand if they dont have the issue resolved but a simple email to say hey we havent forgotten about you would do wonders for your customer service.
abdul: because this is not done or has been attempted degrades the great product your company could have
Tasha: I cannot give a time frame but I have mark the report as priority. Once receive the report, they will be working on this matter and get back to you immediately and have this issue resolved.
abdul: LOL!!!! ok tasha i wont bug you anymore. however please go back over my last chats. every other agent said the same thing with no results. if you can resolve this they need to make you a top 5% agent as the 10% super agents ive dealt with in the past are in the bottom 50% with resolving this issue
abdul: remember its been september with no contact from the company
Tasha: BI do understand your concern about the matter . If I'm on your side, I might feel the same way as well. However, this is the only way we can address your issue to the our engineers and they are the one who will notify you once they receive my report asap.
abdul: ok well tell them they have not responded to any previous requests in the past 3 months which is making you guys look real bad. maybe knowing that they are hurting their coowrkers may help get them on board with attemting to resolve this
abdul: goodnight think thats all until the next time
terrible quality, customer service and replacement policy
summary: device is very cheap quality, and USB jack became loose in 7 months. Their customer service is only available via live chat, and they only respond every 5+ minutes, so expect to spend at least an hour online. If you require a replacement, through no fault of your own, you will pay $9.95 to have it shipped.
Please wait for a site operator to respond.

Lauren :We have been having problems with our magicjack device. We stopped using it about a month ago, because after 7 months of infrequent use the program keeps cutting out and restarting, or shutting off entirely unless you "jiggle" the jack in the USB port. We know it is not our USB port, because we switched ports (there are 6 on the computer), and have the same problem in all ports.

Lauren :no, i will plug it in
Maxwell:Thank you.
Lauren :it is plugged in, when I jiggle it the blue light comes on and starts the program
Lauren :If I bump the cord, the light goes off
Maxwell:May I know if you are using the 6 inches USB extension cord when plugging the magicJack device?
Lauren :no, I am not
Maxwell:Please click the link to download and run the magicJack upgrade:
Lauren :okay, i installed it, and it is restarted now
Maxwell:Can I ask if the blue light is steady now?
Lauren :I just bumped the cord again, and the program is restarting again
Lauren :the blue light stays on until I touch the phone cord, then it goes off and back on
Maxwell:Okay.

Lauren :okay
Mandy:I'm sorry for the delay. I'll be right with you.
Lauren :okay
Mandy:Do you have other USB-based devices (webcams, printers, digital camera, cellphones, external hard drives, etc.) connected to that computer? For troubleshooting purposes, I will need you to unplug all those devices. Then, try plugging the magicJack unto the ports where the devices were attached.
Lauren :I do not have anything plugged in right now. I unplugged my camera before I plugged the magicjack in
Mandy:I will be right with you.
Mandy:Are you using the USB extension cord that came with the magicJack?
Lauren :no
Mandy:Did you try plugging the magicJack to another computer?
Lauren :yes, i took it to my Aunt's house, and it did the same thing
Lauren :she wanted to try it, because she wanted one, but it didn't work there either
Mandy:Thank you for waiting. I'll be with you in just a moment.
Mandy:I am sorry for that.
Mandy:Can I have your magicJack phone number please?
Lauren :***-***-****
Mandy:Thank you.
Mandy:Please wait while I check that for you
Lauren :okay?
Mandy:Would you like a replacement magicJack?
Lauren :I would
Lauren :yes
Mandy:I will be right with you.
Lauren :thank you
Mandy:You are welcome.
Mandy:Okay, you can have the replacement magicJack for FREE even if you will not return the defective device but you need to pay for the shipping and handling cost of $9.95. The replacement the same phone number and expiry date. Would that be fine with you?
Lauren :no, I do not want to pay to replace a device that does not work
Lauren :I could end up doing that again if the new one has the same problem.
Mandy:May I know where did you purchase the magicJack?
Lauren :on your website
Mandy:I am sorry but the replacement magicJack price is fixed. You my refer to our TERMS OF SERVICE by visiting this address http: //www.magicjack.com/tos/.
Lauren :that's rediculous that I would have to pay to return your defective device
Mandy:No need to return the device back to us, Lauren. The replacement device is free of charge only you will handle the shipping fee.
Lauren :I understand that. I am not paying $9.95 because your device does not work.
Lauren :If the device worked, I would not be paying anything. But it does not.
Lauren :I bought it to save money in the first place, but it does not save me money if I have to pay to have a new one shipped when this one does not work.
Mandy:Thank you for waiting. I'll be with you in just a moment.
Mandy:I'm sorry for the delay. I'll be right with you.
Lauren :okay
Mandy:Under our TERMS of SERVICE. 4. Pay for shipping and handling fees for the shipping of the replacement magicJack
Lauren :yes, you told me that.
Lauren :and I said that I am not going to pay for you to send me a replacement because the first one did not work
Lauren :I have been on your "live chat" customer service for about an hour now.
Lauren :is there a place I can write a review for your company? I am very dissatisfied with the service I have received.
Mandy:As much that I would like to but this kind of process is a system generated. You will need to pay for the replacement cost for the transaction to go through.
Lauren :Fine, I do not want a replacement, I simply want to tell people about the terrible customer service and the poor quality of the product
Lauren :There is no reason the MagicJack should only last for 7 months. I did not purchase it with the intention of using it for only 7 months.
Lauren :Was it manufactured with the intention of only working for 7 months?
Mandy:Let's try some fixes instead.
Lauren :No, nevermind, this has taken way too long. I will not be using MagicJack any longer
Mandy:I will be right with you.
Mandy:I'm sorry for the delay. I'll be right with you.
Lauren :No, you won't this is ridiculous. How many people are you helping at the same time?
Lauren :you have the worst customer service I have ever dealt with
Mandy:Is there anything else I may help you with today?
Lauren :I you are rated in the top 10% for customer service, how can I rate the customer service
Lauren :please let me know how I can submit a review.
Mandy:Thank you for waiting. I'll be with you in just a moment.
Mandy:I will be right with you.
Lauren :You aren't going to be right with me, are you?
Mandy:I understand your side completely. I am offering you a replacement device but you will not pay for it.
Lauren :I am asking you to give me the information for where I can submit a complaint
Mandy:I am asking you to troubleshoot your further issue but you will not cooperate.
Mandy:May I know what you exactly want?
Lauren :I am sick of dealing with this now
Lauren :I did trouble shoot, with you and another customer service agent. After 1.25 hours, you can understand why I do not want to deal with that any longer.
Mandy:Would you like us to log onto your computer remotely and resolve this issue for you? If yes, I will transfer you to a higher level of support that will take care of this for you.
Lauren :No, the problem is the hardware, not the software. You cannot fix the hardware remotely.
Mandy:Then I would be glad to process a replacement device provided that you will pay for the shipping and handling.
Lauren :Unless someone is going to come to my house to fix this device, I will submit reviews on every consumer review website I can. I am sorry you work for such a poor company.
Magic Jack charges $30 before they will let you port your number. I brought my number with me and then they will not release it unless I give my credit card number and charge the $30. Headline is right here-you get what you paid for.
Magic Jack is Grief and a half - See my interaction below~
I should add before you read this they never got back to me but I didn't expect them too. I just want to be rid of this nonsense - Skype beets them hands down.

Lloyd: As I have checked it here you can login to your magicJack account using the information you provided me. Lloyd: Please try to copy and paste the email address and password. DRJ: OK maybe its the browswe let me try again Lloyd: All right. DRJ: You are right it works on chrome but not firefox. One other thing is Magic Jack blocking calls inbound from Skype I have callers saying they are getting a message regarding Magic Jack Lloyd: Great! Lloyd: Is there anything else I may help you with today? DRJ: Only the above Lloyd: Are you using magicJack and skype atthe same time? DRJ: No they are different conections but Skype could be running on the WiFi network elsewhere in the building. Lloyd: I see. Lloyd: magicJack is not blocking any calls Richard. DRJ: I am just checking from a connection only in our office just a sec Lloyd: Sure, take your time. DRJ: It is the same from a network in the office and from Skype App on the iPhone this has led three people to ditch MJ here and I would have to do the same with the one in the office and at home if I can't crack this because 50% of overseas clients use Skype. Lloyd: I see. DRJ: A colleague just told me he was given a URL for a patch but it did not solve the problem so he went back to the Skype device which does not give great sound but works. Lloyd: I suggest that you unplug the magicJack device from your computer is you're using skype. DRJ: What difference will that make one number is on Forward and I can get any MJ via Skype let me ask my colleague what happened before they junked them. Lloyd: OKay DRJ: We just dialed a MJ here 646 340 XXXX it went on about going to MJ.com so we dialled 646 340 XXXX, 646 340 XXXX, 646 340 XXXX all the same message so clearly it is blocked by MJ because I am calling from a Skype app on the iPhone. DRJ: I should mention it is on loads of forums about this issue and there are no problems with Truphone, Voipbuster, Vonage etc which we use here too. Lloyd: I undestand that. DRJ: So what is the solution? Lloyd: May I know if you're having problem with the calls with magicJack? DRJ: No its fine. Lloyd: All right. Lloyd: You may try to uninstall the magicJack software on your computer and add the magicJack ports on your computer. DRJ: How will that work when it does not work from the iPhones read what I have said this will just waste my time shall I read back over the above above and paste the relevant section? DRJ: Read This how would your suggestion benefit this problem???? DRJ: DRJ: We just dialed a MJ here 646 340 XXXX it went on about going to MJ.com so we dialled 646 340 48XX, 646 340 48XX, 646 340 XXXX all the same message so clearly it is blocked by MJ because I am calling from a Skype app on the iPhone. Jocel: Thank you for patiently waiting. Jocel: I apologize for the delay as well. Jocel: May I know when did this issue start? DRJ: My colleagues got rid of their magic jacks sometime ago and a somone else in the office using 646 340 XXXX says it will have to go soon and he plans to port the number (he says this has been an issue for months) and now I am getting clients saying they can't get through using Skype or the Skype App on their iphone. Jocel: So, this phone number 646 340 XXXX is a under the skype carrier? DRJ: No it is MJ he proposes to fort it away from MJ DRJ: Sorry I mean't Port Jocel: I see. Jocel: So this phone number 646 340 XXXX was supposed to be ported to magicJack, correct? DRJ: No it has always been MJ he is looking to port it away. Jocel: Do you mean port out this phone number 646 340 XXXX to another carrier? DRJ: Yes because it is unusable with the current problem so he is looking to port to Vonage Jocel: I can see from our records that this phone number (646) 340-XXXX is registered to someone named "john". Jocel: In order to transfer a number on your magicJack to a new provider, eligible requests should be initiated by your new service provider, who will coordinate the transfer. DRJ: XXXX yes its not my number I am simply explaining that everyone is the office is ditching MJ because of this problem and it is all over the forums that Skype can't call MJ the thing is MJ is clearer than the Skype equivelant so it seems crazy we have to ditch MJ because clearly calls from Skype are blocked or Why would it say "sign up with Magic Jack today" on the recording? It is obvious what is going on. Jocel: Thank you for waiting. I'll be with you in just a moment. DRJ: OK Jocel: I'm sorry for the delay. I'll be right with you. DRJ: OK Jocel: Thank you for waiting. DRJ: Months ago but I ignored it but everyone in the office is getting rid of the Magic Jacks so as it works well apart from this I thought I would try and resolve it. I spoke to the guy on the 646 number he tried to sort it and they sent him a URL for a patch but it didn't work hence he is planning to drop the MJ too. Jocel: Is there anything else I may help you with today? DRJ: I will wait to hear they can call me on the 941 MJ number (Ask them not to call from Skype!!) DRJ: No we are done thanks.
I’m trying to get my family to go to it so this why I’m here. If more people would post when they have a positive experience, I wouldn’t have to search out the bad posts to tell the truth. Vista problems? Set right up for me. Dropped calls? The MJ doesn’t drop the calls, your modem/router does. Sound quality? Excellent. Features? Caller ID, call forwarding, voice mail, phone number porting, free local and long distance, I can keep going. www.magic-jack.com/category/magic-jack-plus/ This is by a unbiased test. “Our tests show that the magicJack Plus works incredibly well” A $70 investment, $10 to port YOUR number, versus $60/month. Then $30 a year after. The reason you see negative posts is because You can’t figure out the problem. It’s junk? It’s performed exceptional well. Won’t operate credit card machines. I see more “yes it does” than no it wont. Fax machines? I see slow the baud rate and it works fine. “Won’t call numbers in your area code” I’d be uninstalling the drives, rebooting, reinstalling them and trying it again. If that doesn’t work I’d ask them to replace it and try again. I see the complaining but what steps were taken by YOU? So there support is by chat. Have you bought a computer lately? Or TV? Surprise! It’s an incredible device that hooked up correctly and a good internet speed can save you a lot of money. I don’t regret it for a minute! The majority of bad reviews are by disgruntled users. You hear the bad but not the good because if your happy you don’t seek attention.
I’m a retired guy trying to survive on a fixed income in this economy and thought Magic Jack would be a good way to save money on phone service. I read all of the negative reviews but thought, how bad can it be? Well, I found out! The sound quality is terrible, calls are dropped, calls go straight to voicemail without any notification, features (the few offered) work intermittently, I have never been able to talk to a “real” person except a “chat” representative who was useless and to add insult to injury, they will charge you over 30 dollars to release your phone number (port out) when you decide the money you save isn’t worth the aggravation of sub-par service and try to change phone companies. It costs about 20 bucks to transfer your existing phone number to Magic Jack. That’s okay. You are advised of this charge during sign up and you can decide if keeping your number is important before you proceed. There’s no mention of the 30+ dollar port out charge until you try to cancel. They have ignored my emails concerning this charge and, as far as I know, there’s no way to talk to a “real” person.
I can write off the initial equipment and service charge to “buyer beware” and “I should have known better” but a company who charges over 30 dollars for the privilege of cancelling their service and retaining your phone number is just wrong when your only mistake was to give that company a try in the first place.
I was with Vonage for years and was very happy. I foolishly ignored the reviews in an attempt to save a little money with Magic Jack. I’m back with Vonage! Trust me; don’t make the same mistake I made. You get what you pay for!!
The only thing worse than this product is the quality (or lack) of customer service.
You are advised of this charge during sign up and you can decide if keeping your number is important before you proceed. There’s no mention of the 30+ dollar port out charge until you try to cancel.
DO NOT BUY THIS BS!!!! MAGIC JACK IS BULL!!!! THE QUALITY IS TERRIBLE.!!!! EVEN IF YOU THINK SAVING MONEY, YOU ARE NOT. AND THIS IS BECAUSE YOU MUST LEAVE YOUR PC ON AT ALL TIMES FOR THE ITEM TO WORK;IN THIS CASE, YOUR ELECTRICITY BILL CLIMBS--SO YOU ARE NOT TRULY SAVING. IF YOU DO LOG OFF, YOU WILL NEED TO CONTINUE REGISTERING THE PRODUCT EACH TIME YOU TURN ON YOUR COMPUTER.
IF YOU GO FOR THE FREE TRIAL, YOU WILL HAVE HELL GETTING YOUR MONEY BACK;AND THIS IS BECAUSE THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY ALTHOUGH THEY CLAIM TO RUN THE 30 DAY FREE TRIAL. WHEN YOU TRY TO GET YOUR MONEY RETURNED, THEY CLAIM THAT IF YOU PAY BY DEBIT, THE FUNDS MUST BE IMMEDIATELY DEDUCTED. THE SAME STORY APPLIES IF YOU PAY BY CREDIT;EITHER WAY, THEY BILL YOUR CARD. THE OLDER VERSION OF THE MJ REQUIRES THAT YOU PAY $10.00 TO KEEP THE NUMBER, I HOPE THE 10.00 WENT TO ONE OF THE REPRESENTATIVES [WHO CHASE YOU DOWN TO COMPLETE THE SURVEY] POCKETS. THIS IS A RIP OFF AND A SHAME.
THE PRODUCT DOES NOT WORK. DO NOT BUY THIS BS!!!! MAGIC JACK IS BULL!!!!
They make you pay $30 UP FRONT before releasing your number. FCC rules state any company CANNOT hold your phone number ransom. I spoke to 3 people and all the say it is "our policy." Their "policy" cannot break FCC laws. This company is terrible and they have no service. If you are porting out, file a complain with the FCC. They have a bunch of no good people working here and they nickel and dime people to death!
We purchased Magic Jack and paid for 5 years in advance and were promised a local number for our area would be available within the year and we could change to a local number for free. 2 years later it is still not available. We finally asked for a $10 credit so we could give the magic jack and the remaining time to a friend in another city where there was a local number available. Magic Jack reneged on their promise and basically said "live with it".
My recommendation to anyone thinking about Magic Jack is to check to make sure there are numbers available in your local market. Just because they have area codes available in your state does not mean the number will be local to you. Idaho for example has only one area code but you need to check to see if there are numbers in your city or else, you'll be getting a number that is Long Distance for your city.
BTW...they have the lousiest customer service in the world. If you need help, good luck. Most of them do not understand basic English. Chat service is utterly useless. They multitask several customers at one time. They are always busy which tells me they are constantly bombarded with problems.
Have had magicjack since June 2008, there have been issues, device stop functioning, difficulty getting support (no number to contact) and extremely time consuming to resolve any issues. But, today is the final straw, the lick that killed old Nick. Have a paid subscription unitl Oct 2021, and have been using the free phone number generated by the majicjack device since installed, suddenly at 1 pm today June 14, 2012, my account records have been altered to state have a Vanity Phone Number which expired October 4, 2010. Contacted customer service/tech support via live chat everyone appears to be brain damage of something. Unable to or refuse to comprehend that when they preformed an account update and reset my account records had been changed. Attempting to force to pay a renewal fee for a free phone number had since installing.
I had magicjack for almost 3 years; I prepaid the service for ten years ( up to 2019).
This week they cancel my account and transfer my phone number to another costumer.
I have chat with them more than 25 times and they only say "your account is under riview", you have to wait for an email explaining the reason.
My phone number is being used by another person, who calls me now can not find me.
I calle billing department (561) 594-9925 and they say the samething.
I lost my phone number, my money and the way to contact me.
Magicjack is a irresponsable company, they said I can not get my moneyback.
I recomend not to use Magicjack at all.
Their customer service is just awful. They are incompetent in their billing too. Six months after I paid for the 5 year fee, they say I owe more money. And they are rude about it. I regret ever getting their service and as soon as the 5 years is up I'm leaving. Their quality is not good, dropped calls, people can't hear you, you can't hear them, some numbers you can't call at all and get some stupid announcement. But it was cheap enough that I'd put up with it and now six months later saying I owe more money going back TWO YEARS is the last straw. I hate Magic Jack and will spend the rest of my days telling everyone how bad they suck.
I purchased majic jack in February and it only worked for 2 months I tried their website for technical support which is useless and on top of it a live agent, majic jack has no live agent that all a lie. I spent almost 200 $ and this is a useless phone service. I would never recommend anyone to get majicjack.

Thomas: I just want to make sure that I understand. Firstly, I paid for six years of service and did not get that and got a number that I used. Secondly, in addition to not getting the first service, I will not be able to make another purchase in an attempt to get the number back. Thirdly, I have to wait until your department addresses this and I have been told this twice before? Please advise if I have the facts correct.
Joane: Yes that is correct
I have had the MJ for approximately 3 years. Yes, I have had some bad experiences with CS, but I have also had some good experiences. No, I do not like the fact that you have to use chat for long periods of time. It would be a good idea for MJ to give out a contact number.
I had the same MJ until now, because electronics are not meant to last forever without upgrades. Unfortunately, we get lemons in every type of product. That is why you have to return the product or throw it away, be it a car or shoe.
There is good and bad everywhere you turn. You can either accept it or replace it. People, we need to start expressing about the good that someone does; not just the bad.
Eric was the most recent tech that was able to help me to resolve an issue. Unfortunately, the product was deemed defective because the problem happened again the next day.
It is not too bad to only pay $10.43 for a new MJ, since the other one was so old, as 3 years is old for electronics. How long does a fuse or a light bulb last? How long does a car last if you do not change the oil or the air filter?
Magic jack is a major rip off, it has a very low power signal with extremely poor voice quality. Technical help in non existent. You don't get anything close to what you pay for and think your getting.
BE VERY AWARE!!!! magic jack has kept all your banking information on file, it can be easily hacked and you account wiped out by any hacker, the magic jack "auto pay" renew thing leaves the door wide open to your banking information and account.
Don't think about doing business with magic jack, that quarter laying there on the side walk for you to bend over and pick up has something in store for you. Don't get intercoursed by magic jack, there are plenty of legitimate home phone wireless services available that really work and have good tech support, no sneaky underhanded billing SCAMS for you to deal with. I use Verizons home phone wireless service, it works flawlessly and it's reliable.
I've had MagicJack service for a couple of years now, with two MJ-assigned numbers - one number "attached" to my MagicJack Plus device, and the other number attached to an original MajicJack device along with the MJ App that's installed on a Wi-Fi-connected iPod Touch (3rd generation). The service has been working absolutely FLAWLESSLY for me., especially the iOS app.
I'm not entirely certain why MagicJack *apparently* doesn't work well for some people, but I suspect it's no different in this regard than just about any other VOIP service (other than OOMA, whose system is designed a little differently in order to avoid potential consumer router compatibility issues and in order to ensure that its VOIP calls receive higher "priority" by one's router than anything else). Because it's dependent on cheap hardware, I suspect its devices get shipped out with a certain percentage of them being defective... but they DO ship to consumers with a 30-day money back guarantee. It is also true that a few router models on the market are not sent out to consumers or retailers pre-configured with settings maximized for compatibility with MagicJack-type voip hardware.
But it is most definitely true that because it is the least expensive VOIP service available today, it lacks first-class customer and technical support. And because so many people sign up for it all at once, other telcos sometimes seem to have difficulty keeping up with telephone number assignment changes - which affects call routing (this is NOT a problem caused by or the fault of MagicJack). And its website and retail packaging should do a better job of educating the potential consumer of its limitations - such as calls to Alaska being treated as an international call and thus requiring money to be placed into one's MJ International Calling fund in advance (this is actually the case for most cheap VOIP providers, because Alaska's landline company and most of their cellular companies charge other companies a very high tariff to connect incoming calls with Alaska phone numbers).
Regardless, I've found MagicJack's voice quality to be EXCELLENT - far better than AT&T or Verizon cellular service and as good as regular "POTS" landline service. And the reliability of the service has only gotten BETTER since the product was first introduced. Over the past few months I've not experienced even ONE dropped call, which is far more than I could EVER say for either of the two major cellular carriers that I've used. In fact, I found that the call dropping that I experienced when I first signed up with MJ was in fact a problem that was being caused by my cordless phone system and NOT MJ.
The MJ iOS APP works FLAWLESSLY when used with a Wi-Fi connected iOS device, and you can get full MJ service using only the app (if you wish) for only $10/year. If you prefer to use a regular"landline" phone with the service, there are two options - one is to buy the original MJ device (which requires that it be connected to an always-on pc or Intel Mac), or buy the newer MagicJack Plus device (which once "activated" via pc can be connected directly to your router or modem via Ethernet and*can* instead be connected to a pc or Intel Mac if desired). The only advantage to using either device via a pc/Mac connection is that additional calling features that are available from 3rd-party sources can be installed on the computer, but such an arrangement requires that the computer always be running (not in "sleep" or "hibernation" mode or turned off) and also introduces greater probability of pc, operating system and/or application - related incompatibilities. And both devices come with one year of service at no additional charge.
I've also discovered that when the MJ Plus is used as a stand-alone device it's best to use a GOOD Ethernet cable to connect it to your router or modem, rather than using the incredibly flimsy Ethernet ribbon cable that is included with the device, to use the little USB extension cable that it comes with to connect it to its AC adapter (also included in the package), AND to power the MJ Plus (along with your modem and router) via an uninterruptible power supply.
The most risk-free way to try out the service is to purchase a MJ device from a local retailer (such as Radio Shack) that has a decent return policy (preferably at least 30 days), so if you find that it doesn't work well with your own Internet equipment and you don't feel like messing around with your network or router settings you can just simply return it and get your money back. You can buy the devices directly from the company at the same price that you'll pay from a local retailer (minus sales tax but possibly plus shipping and handling); the company offers a 30-day trial period but the 30-day "count" begins on the day that you place your order NOT on the day that you actually receive the product and "activate" your MJ account with it online.
One feature that is cheating customers without providing them full information. This is one that I found out, not sure how many are there until you come across. I just wanted to put this review so new/old customers are aware of this. When you buy a new device, never go for option of transferring all your remaining years credit from old device. By doing this, your one free year service comes with new device becomes void.
In addition, your old device might get deactivated unless you buy minimum one year subscription. So you lose two times, one by void of one year free in new device, second by compulsorily buying one year to keep ur old device active. This one year activation, when paid, may not be for full 12 months…. it could be much much lesser – depends on when u originally registered this old device… so please be aware, sometimes you don't get what you paid for.
as long as nothing goes wrong MJ is a good device..
but do not think that chats and agents will solve your problems; as they do not read your messages attentively and do not care to read them, specially the do not mind if you fix your issues or not..they work by their own rules of understanding.. they take minutes before even answering you back and on top they do not answer the questions correctly.
think about it before you renew your contract with them..
First they never skip a beat trying to constantly sell you more crud.
Second when you can make calls they drop off frequently
Third after you receive or make calls it stops functioning for some period of time or until you unplug it and plug it mack in
We had Vonage in two states for 5 years and never ever had any kind of problem with it.
My estimation is that magic jack has poor infrastructure and a crummy product.
I purchased a magic jack because I was under the impression that it would be a pretty neat and cost-effective way to make business calls (I'm self-employed and I make lots of business calls during business hours). However, immediately upon purchasing I realized that Magic Jack is more hype than practical. I didn't have connection problems and my calls went through "smoother than oil," however, it didn't take but a few phone calls to realize that the Magic Jack is about as useless as used motor oil (not so smooth NOW, huh?). With the telephone volume maxed out, I could barely hear the important details that determine my efficacy and financial returns as a businessman. I thought it was perhaps the phone, so I went out and purchased a much better phone and it was the same thing: VOLUME MAXED OUT, BUT I COULD BARELY HEAR A THING! In situations of everyday practicality and usage, Magic Jack is worthless. Don't believe the hype. Save your money. It's another multi-million dollar scam which took public trust and ruthlessly twisted it into financial gain.
I actually bought the regular and the Plus version. I gave the regular one away to a friend in China and use the Plus myself in China. It really does not work that good. I dual core processor and have issues with it in regards to sound quality and volume. I had similar issues with Skype too, so I can't say that it is a problem with the device or with China. (There are certain things the government here does with the internet that prevent easy use of such a fabulous tool.)

Adam: Hello, how may I help you?
Colleen : Hello. I can't find anywhere to upgrade to MJ+ for $35 online... I'd like to upgrade to MagicJack Plus, but would like to pay $35... since I've been a customer for a couple of years already. Is this possible? I'd rather do that than by Ooma. Thank you so much for your consideration.
Adam: Thank you for that. Adam: Unfortunately, our 1 time promotion is not anymore available.
Colleen : I didn't realize it was a one time promotion. Why would it be one time? Why wouldn't you extend that to your current customers? I'm confused.
Adam: Yes, since it is only for the 48 hours discount.
Colleen : That doesn't sound like very good customer service. First we had to wait 12 years to get that immediately coming number porting ability... and now you do this to us? I'm not sure why you'd have a company that really doesn't care at all about your customers. Is there a manager I can talk to?
Colleen : This just really isn't something I understand.
Adam: One moment please...
Adam: I am transferring you to one of our top 10% agents as rated by our customers. Please hold while I transfer you. Please wait while I transfer the chat to the best suited site operator.

Evert: Hi Colleen
Evert: Please give me a few moments to review your previous conversation, thank you.
Colleen : Hi Evert.
Colleen : I'm so disappointed in your customer service. I spent a lot of money maintaining my land line while I waited and waited and waited for your number porting ability... and now I can't even get an upgrade discount?
Evert: Thank you for waiting, currently we only have a discounted price for the magicJack Plus. The device cost $69.95, with the discounted price it will only be for $59.95. This is the only promotion that we currently have right now.
Colleen : This question isn't about me hearing your current promotion line... I want to get to the bottom of why your company doesn't feel that it's important to take care of their customers.
Evert: We do care for the customers, that is why we are giving promotions and discounts. But you'll also need to wait when we are giving out for discounts and promotions. Currently this is the only available discounted price we have for the magicJack plus, and there will be more in the future.
Evert: I believe that I have already provided you all the information needed; I will end this conversation now, if you any other concerns in the future, please do not hesitate to chat us back. We are always here to assist you. Thank you.
Colleen : Yeah, I'm not feeling the love. Can I talk to your manager please? Since we haven't heard from you, we must release this chat. Please click here should you need further assistance: www.magicJack.com/techchat
Liam: I see.
Colleen : I'm especially concerned that his "f-you" comment was likely a macro... nice to see how quickly he used it.
Liam: But, as of this moment, I can only give you the reward, but, it is a random reward that you will receive after the end of this chat.
Colleen : Huh?
Liam: You want to purchase a magicjack device with a discount am I right?
Colleen : Yes.
Liam: But, as of this moment, I can only give you the reward, but, it is a random reward that you will receive after the end of this chat.
Colleen : I'm sorry. I still don't get it.
Liam: Okay.
Colleen : What is "the reward?"
Liam: It is a random reward that you will be getting after we end this chat.
Colleen : Like a lollipop?
Colleen : What do you mean?
Liam: It is a random reward, for a Magicjack device.
Liam: Anything that is coordinated with magicjack corporation.
Colleen : Can you give me a type of example of the random reward? Like a magicjack bumper sticker?
Liam: It is not. it is like a reward which we will give unto our Valued Customers.
Colleen : I didn't get a random reward after my last chat. Why now? So I will only find out what the reward is when we end our chat?
Liam: Yes it is.
Liam: I will be giving you a link for it.
Colleen : Okay. So what do I do now? Continue our conversation? Or wait for a link to a random reward? Or?
Liam: To be eligible for your reward, please click here. Your reward instructions will be emailed to you. Thanks again!

They don't care whether you like their product or not. They don't care at ALL if you're happy. If your Magic Jack never breaks or anything, they're good. Otherwise, they SUCK...you will never get your money back, or any help.
I have used magic jack for at least 3 years so I can say I have given magic jack the benefit of time and have been very fair and patient, I am an experienced magic user and this is the first I have ever posted regarding this product. The entire time has been nothing less than a complete frustration other than the cost. I do admit there were times I would get excited when the phone would work trouble free for several days or more and I would think all the problems were ironed out and my phone would be working as a normal phone should, at those rare times I would actually beat the magic jack drum and really think this is the way to go however as time went by my opinion of magic jack sank into the electronic abyss. The last straw for me was when magic jack started inserting a commercial for prepaid minutes for conference calls when I was calling a number I call all the time, this happened to me today again and I put the magic jack phone down and used my cell to get through to the number, this was not a conference call, I never do those at home, so this was just another annoying problem and totally ridiculous and unnecessary but the very worst part is the phone call is terminated so it will not go through at the end of the commercial. I don’t use the phone too much but when I do I don’t like to put up with unnecessary crap like that. My magic jack has gone off line literally hundreds of times, issues range from the modem to the computer screen saver coming on to using the TV or dvd remote, there is so many issues that interfere with the magic jack that it makes your head spin, I literally have my modem pointing out into the family room so my wife and I can see the green lights flashing, when red light is on we know the phone is off line, we continuously monitor this so we don’t miss a call with the phone going off line. The post that said you get what you pay for was spot on. My opinion is magic jack is cheap and so is the service, very unreliable. The voice is good however you cannot count on the phone to be operational when you need it. Something else magic jack failed to tell us was that the prepaid minutes for calling France was only good for six months, the minutes I PAID for were forfeited and taken away from us because we did not use them in the six months so make note of that, that was another 20.00 donated to magic jack . I think the people that run magic jack don’t have a lot of credibility by pulling things like that. Good thing there are other competitors coming along giving magic jack a run for customers. I have not decided if i will keep my magic jack phone only for a secondary line however my main phone will be my cell phone now that I have a signal booster in my home, so all is well there. Good luck if you are going to try magic jack, just remember you most certainly will be spending time trying to keep this product up and running, it is not a hands off trouble free product by any means.
I have had magic jack since June 09. I have renewed every year. I renewed in June 2012. I got a renewal screen in September 2012, and renewed again thinking I would extend my service. They took my money, and shut me down the very next day saying I violated their terms of service. Read their terms of service before you decide. If you don't mind them listening in on your conversations, cutting your calls off to maintain the integrity of the network, lousy voice quality with choppy speech, and stopping your service at their discretion without warning, or giving any refund then magic jack is for you.

magicJack- getting what you paid for
Hi there, I just wanted to elaborate on the magic jack review that is posted on VOIP Review already..
Magic Jack steals your money
After 3 weeks using Magic Jack, I made 51 calls one day, and they shut down my account. They refuse to do anything, saying I violated their TOS. Sure enough, if you make more that 50 calls in a day, you will be automatically shut down and lose your money. Let's hope you don't encounter a busy signal and then keep retrying the call. I wondered how Magic Jack could sustain their business model. Now I understand, they take your money, then shut down the account, then go get another sucker. Stay away from Magic Jack.
MagicJack great value
MagicJack - keeps getting error code 3
I use Vista and tried unsuccessfully to get Magic Jack to work. After about an hour working with online chat and 2 different techs they said the only way to fix it was to let them have control of my computer. That wasn't going to happen. So I am taking mine back to Best Buy tomorrow to get a refund. I am not computer illiterate and I pity the poor person that doesn't know their way around the computer. They will be totally lost.
Magic Jack Review
Cheap means just that
I have used the magic jack for a month now.
Save your money and use those as they are free and can do all the things mentioned that magic jack can not.
i try the magic jack it sucks
i try the magic jack
it sucks
then i look in to nettalk which is great
am saving 50 dollars per month
i think everyone should check it ou
cost u abt 70 dollar but it worth it
Yeah, Vista update..

MagicJack
Good catch
Thanks for catching the error at the beginning of the article; magicjack costs $39.95, not $40 each month. We fixed the error.
Middle of the Road Review
Former MJ User Says: Don't Do It!
Not a fan of the Comments!
Reading the comments has trubled me; I am not one to de-grade a product simply due to opinions. What I have learned and have no addresed issues are as follows;

Stela: Hello, how may I help you?
Stela: There was a TOS article called "magicJack Device and Software, Terms of Service and Software License Agreement" that was presented to you on the third window
of the registration process.
Proper Use it says "If magicJack sees excessive use, including but not limited to, a customer whose usage is twenty (20) times more than the average
magicJack's customer's usage, or a customer who calls more than 50 different telephone numbers per day, or systematic or intentional misuse, it reserves the right, in our sole discretion, to terminate your use of the magicJack device and/or Software immediately, and you will not be entitled to get a refund of any licensing fee or any other fee you may have paid to us.
Steven E. Davidson: No. That is all. Thanks.
Stela: Take care and have a great day!
Getting away from Magic Jack
MAGIC JACK
HERES THE SCOOP.
IM NOT HAPPY WITH THIS.
Magic Jack Plus Scam
Magic Jack Scam
This is my comversation with Magic Jack Techs on Saturday, 11/19/11. I have been with them for 4 years now, and have talk to them several time over that 4 years. Not one time have they been helpful!!!!! I still have the same problems. Other than changing my phone number, this Chat is word for word. Do not buy Magic Jack equipment. The saving, if you could even complete a call, the runaround, and loss of time, (I am talking about many hours, each time you need to call,) is not worth it!!!!!!!

Hero: Okay. Thanks for verifying.
Hero: One moment please...
Henry: phone it self is still dead
Henry: If I unplug and replug it will work
Henry: the phone will work again'
Hero: Can you try doing a quick restart on the dialpad , go to menu >> advanced >> restart.
Henry: trying it. It says MJ can't restart
Hero: Click link below and Run software.
Hero: http://upgrades.magicjack.com/upgrade/magicJackSetup.exe
Henry: now the only way to resTART IS TO UNPLUG REPLUG
Henry: trying the update
Hero: Thank you for waiting. I'll be with you in just a moment.
Henry: it says, warning , you must plug M J into usb
Hero: Please unplug your magicJack device and transfer it to other USB ports available.
Henry: so if I unplug the usb and replug it will work

I had same problem and fixed it myself
Shoot me an email if you have further questions. g_brossault at hotmail dot com
the account you're using
the account you're using doesnt have admin rights, right click run as administrator.
Magic Jack and Magic Jack Plus
Magic Jack area code issues
Ive attempted to have this resolved but get the same as most of you have with the non existent support they have. ive even made a suggestion to just issue me another number with an area code i would never call as i have full access to other area codes. their response is that i would have to buy another number. since then ive been told the engineers will contact me and have yet to receive an email. below is my chats.

abdul: i would like to have a no later than date of when i will be contacted
Jamie: I could not offer you a time frame for it Abdul but please rest assured that once they're done working on it, someone will get back to you via email immediately.

abdul: hello
Abigail: Hello, how may I help you?
abdul: yes was wondering do you have a complaint dept or an email address that i can send to talk on some issues im having
Abigail: Thank you for the nice question. But, we don't have a complaint department Abdul.
abdul: so if i cannot get my issue resolved here what am i to do
Abigail: Let me fix your issue, Abdul.
abdul: your tech support has been working on my issue since sept 3 of which i never received an email update. when i call back to inquire im told to continue waiting.
Abigail: As I double checked in here, our engineers are still working on your magicJack's main concern and that's the reason why you haven't received any email confirmations from them yet. Please do extend your patience on this matter because once they're done checking your account furhter and working/resolving on your issue, someone will get back to you via email the soonest time possible. abdul: so am i to tell my family i still have to wait to call them because its taking the company too long.
Abigail: We are working on it right now.
Abigail: Hoping for your understanding.
Abigail: Please check your email from time to time.
abdul: sorry i dont as this issue has been in the resolving phase for since sept. whereas ive seen many purchase magic jacks from my military base. ive even purchased the plus. however i am going to return as if this has the same issue after ive used it past the 30 days then im out of money. why not just switch it out
Abigail: As I have checked, you have magicJack number.
Abigail: Does it mean you have a magicJack PLUS device now?
abdul: yes i have the magic jack however my issue is that i cannot call my family who has a home phone and no cell. i purchased the magic jack plus a few days ago and its on the way as i was hoping the issue would have been resolved. once i receive it i will return it as i cannot afford another faulty device
Abigail: Is your magicJack PLUS device with you right now?
abdul: no
abdul: should be here in the next few days
Abigail: I see.
Abigail: Once you have the magicJack PLUS, you need to register it first in order to have a number.
abdul: in germany so i would imagine it would take longerf
abdul: i still want my old magic jack fixed which if its not i will return the magic jack plus
Abigail: Do you have your old magicJack device there?
abdul: within the 30 day timeframe
abdul: yes
abdul: i do
Abigail: May I know if you can still make and receive a call from that device?
abdul: yes from cell phones only
abdul: and to cell phones only
Abigail: Does it mean you cannot call landline numbers?
abdul: correct.
abdul: call goes through but disconnects after 3 seconds
Abigail: I see.
Abigail: Is the magicJack plugged in now?
abdul: yes
Abigail: Do you see the dial pad?
abdul: yes
Abigail: Does it read "Stock Symbol: CALL?"
abdul: yes
Abigail: 1. Click the "Start" button then "Settings" then "Control Panel" then go to "Internet Options", under "Privacy" tab, slide the bar down to "Accept all cookies". Under "Security" tab, click on "Trusted Sites" then click the "Sites" button.
abdul: theyve had me do all these changes before upgraded the software co into the c prompt and everything and the issue still remained whuch is why they sent to the technicicans. now my ssue s the technicians have been working on this for more than a month
abdul: all info is still in trusted sites the my magic jack and the reg.talk4 free site

However, this is the only way we can address your issue to the our engineers and they are the one who will notify you once they receive my report asap.
abdul: ok well tell them they have not responded to any previous requests in the past 3 months which is making you guys look real bad. maybe knowing that they are hurting their coowrkers may help get them on board with attemting to resolve this
abdul: goodnight think thats all until the next time
Tasha: Bye and take care
terrible quality, customer service and replacement policy
summary: device is very cheap quality, and USB jack became loose in 7 months. Their customer service is only available via live chat, and they only respond every 5+ minutes, so expect to spend at least an hour online. If you require a replacement, through no fault of your own, you will pay $9.95 to have it shipped.
Please wait for a site operator to respond.

Lauren : We have been having problems with our magicjack device.

Lauren : no, i will plug it in
Maxwell: Thank you.
Lauren : it is plugged in, when I jiggle it the blue light comes on and starts the program
Lauren : If I bump the cord, the light goes off

Lauren : okay
Mandy: I'm sorry for the delay. I'll be right with you.
Lauren : okay
Mandy: Do you have other USB-based devices (webcams, printers, digital camera, cellphones, external hard drives, etc.) connected to that computer? For troubleshooting purposes, I will need you to unplug all those devices. Then, try plugging the magicJack unto the ports where the devices were attached.
Lauren : I do not have anything plugged in right now. I unplugged my camera before I plugged the magicjack in
Mandy: I will be right with you.
Mandy: Are you using the USB extension cord that came with the magicJack?
Lauren : no
Mandy: Did you try plugging the magicJack to another computer?
Lauren : yes, i took it to my Aunt's house, and it did the same thing
Lauren : she wanted to try it, because she wanted one, but it didn't work there either

Lauren : no, I do not want to pay to replace a device that does not work
Lauren : I could end up doing that again if the new one has the same problem.
Mandy: May I know where did you purchase the magicJack?
Lauren : on your website
Mandy: I am sorry but the replacement magicJack price is fixed. You my refer to our TERMS OF SERVICE by visiting this address http: //www.magicjack.com/tos/.
Lauren : that's rediculous that I would have to pay to return your defective device
Mandy: No need to return the device back to us, Lauren. The replacement device is free of charge only you will handle the shipping fee.
Lauren : I understand that. I am not paying $9.95 because your device does not work.
Lauren : If the device worked, I would not be paying anything. But it does not.
Lauren : I bought it to save money in the first place, but it does not save me money if I have to pay to have a new one shipped when this one does not work.
Mandy: Thank you for waiting. I'll be with you in just a moment.
Mandy: I'm sorry for the delay. I'll be right with you.
Lauren : okay
Mandy: Under our TERMS of SERVICE. 4. Pay for shipping and handling fees for the shipping of the replacement magicJack
Lauren : yes, you told me that.
Lauren : and I said that I am not going to pay for you to send me a replacement because the first one did not work
Lauren : I have been on your "live chat" customer service for about an hour now.
Lauren : is there a place I can write a review for your company? I am very dissatisfied with the service I have received.
Mandy: As much that I would like to but this kind of process is a system generated. You will need to pay for the replacement cost for the transaction to go through.
Lauren : Fine, I do not want a replacement, I simply want to tell people about the terrible customer service and the poor quality of the product
Lauren : There is no reason the MagicJack should only last for 7 months. I did not purchase it with the intention of using it for only 7 months.
Lauren : Was it manufactured with the intention of only working for 7 months?
Mandy: Let's try some fixes instead.
Lauren : No, nevermind, this has taken way too long. I will not be using MagicJack any longer
Mandy: I will be right with you.
Mandy: I'm sorry for the delay. I'll be right with you.
Lauren : No, you won't this is ridiculous. How many people are you helping at the same time?
Lauren : you have the worst customer service I have ever dealt with
Mandy: Is there anything else I may help you with today?
Lauren : I you are rated in the top 10% for customer service, how can I rate the customer service
Lauren : please let me know how I can submit a review.
Mandy: Thank you for waiting. I'll be with you in just a moment.
Mandy: I will be right with you.
Lauren : You aren't going to be right with me, are you?
Mandy: I understand your side completely. I am offering you a replacement device but you will not pay for it.
Lauren : I am asking you to give me the information for where I can submit a complaint
Mandy: I am asking you to troubleshoot your further issue but you will not cooperate.
Mandy: May I know what you exactly want?
Lauren : I am sick of dealing with this now
Lauren : I did trouble shoot, with you and another customer service agent. After 1.25 hours, you can understand why I do not want to deal with that any longer.
Mandy: Would you like us to log onto your computer remotely and resolve this issue for you? If yes, I will transfer you to a higher level of support that will take care of this for you.
Lauren : No, the problem is the hardware, not the software. You cannot fix the hardware remotely.
Mandy: Then I would be glad to process a replacement device provided that you will pay for the shipping and handling.
Lauren : Unless someone is going to come to my house to fix this device, I will submit reviews on every consumer review website I can. I am sorry you work for such a poor company.
Lauren : Have a good holiday.
Magic Jack porting
Magic Jack charges $30 before they will let you port your number. I brought my number with me and then they will not release it unless I give my credit card number and charge the $30. Headline is right here-you get what you paid for.
Magic Jack is Grief and a half - See my interaction below~
I should add before you read this they never got back to me but I didn't expect them too. I just want to be rid of this nonsense - Skype beets them hands down.

Lloyd: Hello, how may I help you?
DRJ: Hi, I am trying to login with the info below but it still says its incorrect.
DRJ: ---------------------------- Original Message ---------------------------- Subject: *****SPAM***** Important Information From: noreply@magicjack.com Date: Thu, March 1, 2012 4:42 pm To: "DRJ" <RICHARD@xxxxxxxx.xxx> -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for using magicJack. Your password is: XXXXXXXX
Lloyd: Is this your magicJack phone number: 941227XXXX?
DRJ: yes
Lloyd: Please wait while I check that for you
Lloyd: Thank you for waiting.
Lloyd: As I have checked it here you can login to your magicJack account using the information you provided me.
Lloyd: Please try to copy and paste the email address and password.
DRJ: OK maybe its the browswe let me try again
Lloyd: All right.
DRJ: You are right it works on chrome but not firefox. One other thing is Magic Jack blocking calls inbound from Skype I have callers saying they are getting a message regarding Magic Jack
Lloyd: Great!
Lloyd: Is there anything else I may help you with today?
DRJ: Only the above
Lloyd: Are you using magicJack and skype atthe same time?
DRJ: No they are different conections but Skype could be running on the WiFi network elsewhere in the building.
Lloyd: I see.
Lloyd: magicJack is not blocking any calls Richard.
DRJ: I am just checking from a connection only in our office just a sec
Lloyd: Sure, take your time.
Lloyd: OKay
DRJ: We just dialed a MJ here 646 340 XXXX it went on about going to MJ.com so we dialled 646 340 XXXX, 646 340 XXXX, 646 340 XXXX all the same message so clearly it is blocked by MJ because I am calling from a Skype app on the iPhone.
DRJ: Can you escalate this you clearly do not grasp the entire issue.
Lloyd: One moment please...
Lloyd: I am transferring you to one of our top 10% agents as rated by our customers. Please hold while I transfer you.
Lloyd: Please continue tohold while I check for available higher tech support.
DRJ: OK
Lloyd: Thank you.
Please wait while I transfer the chat to the best suited site operator.

Jocel: Hello. My name is Jocel. To better assist you, let me put you on hold while I read your previous chat/s. Thank you.
DRJ: Thanks
Jocel: I'm sorry for the delay. I'll be right with you.
DRJ: OK
Jocel: I will be right with you.
DRJ: No it is MJ he proposes to fort it away from MJ
DRJ: Sorry I mean't Port
Jocel: I see.
Jocel: So this phone number 646 340 XXXX was supposed to be ported to magicJack, correct?
DRJ: No it has always been MJ he is looking to port it away.
Jocel: Do you mean port out this phone number 646 340 XXXX to another carrier?
DRJ: Yes because it is unusable with the current problem so he is looking to port to Vonage
Jocel: I can see from our records that this phone number (646) 340-XXXX is registered to someone named "john".
DRJ: OK
Jocel: I'm sorry for the delay. I'll be right with you.
DRJ: OK
Jocel: Thank you for waiting. I'll be with you in just a moment.
DRJ: OK
Jocel: I will be right with you.
Jocel: Thank you for patiently waiting.
Jocel: May I know when did you first experience the issue not being able to call the magicJack from a Skype and heard the message "sign up with Magic Jack today"?
DRJ: Months ago but I ignored it but everyone in the office is getting rid of the Magic Jacks so as it works well apart from this I thought I would try and resolve it. I spoke to the guy on the 646 number he tried to sort it and they sent him a URL for a patch but it didn't work hence he is planning to drop the MJ too.
Jocel: This time, I need to escalate your issue to the Engineers for them to check on this matter personally.
Jocel: Is this your best contact email address richard@xxxxxx.xxx>
DRJ: Yes that is the best one or richard@xxxxx.xxx
Jocel: One moment please...
Jocel: \Thank you for the time you have given me.

DRJ: THanks for all your help. Fingers crossed it is a great product apart from this - especialy the new version. Regards Richard
Jocel: You are most welcome.
Jocel: Is there anything else I may help you with today?
DRJ: I will wait to hear they can call me on the 941 MJ number (Ask them not to call from Skype!!)
DRJ: No we are done thanks.
magicjack plus
Magic Jackoff
You are advised of this
You are advised of this charge during sign up and you can decide if keeping your number is important before you proceed. There’s no mention of the 30+ dollar port out charge until you try to cancel.
What????
What????
MAGIC JACK
Magic Jack breaking law
They make you pay $30 UP FRONT before releasing your number. FCC rules state any company CANNOT hold your phone number ransom. I spoke to 3 people and all the say it is "our policy." Their "policy" cannot break FCC laws. This company is terrible and they have no service. If you are porting out, file a complain with the FCC. They have a bunch of no good people working here and they nickel and dime people to death!
Waited for 2 years for a local number
Magicjack Scamming
Magicjack
Magic Jack is terrible.
I hate Magic Jack and will spend the rest of my days telling everyone how bad they suck.
majicjack
I purchased majic jack in February and it only worked for 2 months I tried their website for technical support which is useless and on top of it a live agent, majic jack has no live agent that all a lie. I spent almost 200 $ and this is a useless phone service. I would never recommend anyone to get majicjack.

Joane: Not now Thomas I suggest to please check your email from time to tom
Joane: *time
Thomas: I just want to make sure that I understand.
Not so bad
Magic Jack rip off
Magic jack is a major rip off, it has a very low power signal with extremely poor voice quality.
Has been working GREAT for me!
Cheating feature
One feature that is cheating customers without providing them full information. This is one that I found out, not sure how many are there until you come across. I just wanted to put this review so new/old customers are aware of this. When you buy a new device, never go for option of transferring all your remaining years credit from old device. By doing this, your one free year service comes with new device becomes void.
In addition, your old device might get deactivated unless you buy minimum one year subscription. So you lose two times, one by void of one year free in new device, second by compulsorily buying one year to keep ur old device active. This one year activation, when paid, may not be for full 12 months…. it could be much much lesser – depends on when u originally registered this old device… so please be aware, sometimes you don't get what you paid for.
bad service
as long as nothing goes wrong MJ is a good device..
but do not think that chats and agents will solve your problems; as they do not read your messages attentively and do not care to read them, specially the do not mind if you fix your issues or not..they work by their own rules of understanding.. they take minutes before even answering you back and on top they do not answer the questions correctly.
think about it before you renew your contract with them..
Majic Jack +
First they never skip a beat trying to constantly sell you more crud.
Second when you can make calls they drop off frequently
Third after you receive or make calls it stops functioning for some period of time or until you unplug it and plug it mack in
We had Vonage in two states for 5 years and never ever had any kind of problem with it.
My estimation is that magic jack has poor infrastructure and a crummy product.
Magic Jack

Not that good
I actually bought the regular and the Plus version.
Seriously MagicJack?

Colleen: Hi Liam, can I talk to your manager please?
Liam: May I know the exact nature of your concern please?
Colleen : Sure. Here it is: Before I was so rudely cut off last time: (CUT TO CONVERSATION WITH MJ IMMEDIATELY PRIOR):
Colleen : Please wait for a site operator to respond.

Colleen : I don't really need another agent... but a manager... ??
Colleen : Boy, you guys have a weird way of doing things. Thanks, I think... ????
Worst Customer Service Ever
They don't care whether you like their product or not. They don't care at ALL if you're happy. If your Magic Jack never breaks or anything, they're good. Otherwise, they SUCK...you will never get your money back, or any help.
majic jack
Magic Jack rip off
I have had magic jack since June 09.
