VoIP with Dialup

Hi Welde,

Hopefully I can shed some light on your questions.

I don't know of many good voip rate comparison sites. Most of these sites operate by selling spots on their site and will rank them on a bidding system. Who ever has the most money in the marketing budget remains #1. Not all are like this, but many are.

Your second one is very interesting. A dialup connection is not a good option for VOIP, but it is unfortunaly the only method of network connectivity for some.

First, you need to find a provider that will offer the G729 codec, and a program that supports this. Eyebeam (The paid version) supports G729.

I have family in South America that use True Call International (http://truecallinternational.com) with their 64k internet system. They use TelMex cable internet service with the lowest plan (64k) and it works just fine as long as you are not browsing the internet while on the phone.

Dialup is slower than 64k, so performance may not be as good as my family members in Colombia, but it is worth a try. I believe eyebeam costs around $30.

Hope that this helps,

Ed
