Residential Caller ID compatibility

I am surprised by the lack of discussion regarding Caller ID (CID) problems.  From my research, it seems there is a lot of difficulty with delivering phone system compatible CID information over VoIP.  Most of the challenges I have read about exist within pbx systems for businesses.  However, I have recently set up Vonage at my home and cannot receive any CID information over my vTech cordless phones connected to the Vonage adaptor.  Oh sure, the name and number shows up on the adaptor display, so why is it not coming through to the handsets???  Even though Vonage claims that their service is compatible with standard landline phones, I have gotten no help from Vonage on this topic.  Their comments were limited to the usual scripts:  "We have no control over third party equipment"; "We are not aware of other customers having the same problem"; and worst of all "Most people do not have CID screens built into their handsets"; and finally "You will just have to refer to the display on the adaptor."  Sheesh!  Way to take a feature that has become a "can't live without" standard, and move back to the phase of worthless inconvience.Okay, anyone have any information about how to receive CID name and number information on a non-IP handset?  Frankly, I'd even be willing to buy IP phones if I could find any that were dependable and had good reviews.  But should that actually be necessary?  If the data can be displayed on the adaptor, shouldn't it display on any standard CID display connected to the adaptor?  I don't want to have to return to PSTN over something that should be so simple!  HELP!By the way, let me know, too, if this is not a common problem.  Are there any users out there that have IP phones or non-IP phones displaying CID info through residential VoIP service?
