Usually all you need is a broadband internet connection (DSL or Cable) and an adapter/router (often sent by the provider). For example, I plug my adapter into my router, then plug my phone into the adapter, and I'm all set. You have basically four ways to use VoIP: Softphones (Installing a Software in your computer that enables you to make and receive calls, they are usually free); ATAs (Adaptor that connects your internet to a conventional phone device that enables you old phone to make calls through VoIP Service); IP Phones (Phone devices that are connected directly to your Internet Network, you just plug and call!); IP PBX (Equipments for business use, that normally can handle more than 1 line and have advanced features.)
