Great Plan, good features, long wait for support
ViaTalk is one of two companines that I know of that offers 2 lines for 2 years for $200. However, that rate is slightly deceptive, in that they charge a setup fee, a shipping fee, and monthly e911 and "regulatory" fees. Although these fees are understandable, I would prefer that they were stated in a more up-front fashion on their web site. In addition, they claim their plans are "unlimited", whereas in the terms of service they spell out limits and overage charges. In my view, this is not entirely Kosher, albeit not uncommon in the industry. The "2 lines" is actually provided by way of 1 phone number and hardware-based line cloning. This works quite well in practice, functioning almost the same as 2 actual lines with call waiting and rotation.
ViaTalks feature set is generally adequate, though lacking in a few arenas. They do not offer music on hold, and their business option does not offer an automated call attendant. Their call forwarding options do not include the array of call treatments that CallCentric offers. The VoiceMail works well. Other features are standard for the industry.
ViaTalk recently took over the contracts of a large number of Sun Rocket orphans. As such, they outgrew their support capabilities. Although they have vastly increased their support staff, you still may have to wait an hour or more on hold. The other option is to submit a support ticket, which will get a response no later than the next business day. When you do reach a support person, their staff is very courteous and quite helpful.
In summary, I would give ViaTalk 4 stars, and would happily recommend them to a friend.
I do believe this is a company dedicated to becoming a quality major player in the VOIP market, and I expect that they will succeed if they have sufficient capital.
