re:are voip calls really for free??

what u r saying would surely be true, but I am actually talking about free calling round the world. Tht is why I'm recommending the website I stated in the post, youtring, as it has cheap calls and good voice quality

free calling ?

There is no such thing free PC to phone calling, only PC to PC calling is free. However, there are websites that provide you with very low cost Pc to PHONE calling. Try www.youtring.com, it has good voice quality and costs very cheap

Re: are voip calls really for free??

there are many providers of VoIP services but all of them has its own flaws. here are a few: skype: total rip-off! they started charging on local PC to phone calls! vonage: company's crumbling down due to a coroprate lawsuit filed by verizon. nope, not stable enough. i wouldnt go with their services if i were you. ventrillo: can't call from PC to phone line. need i say more? voip.com: my best bet! works on dial up, has all the features you would want and its free! so there. hope this helps! :)

Re: are voip calls really for free??

hey, how come my call's unlimited? not that im disappointed or something. haha! is this for free??

Re: are voip calls really for free??

Your calls are unlimited with what? What provider do you have?

Re: are voip calls really for free??

yeah, i was really surprised! it's voip.com, their beta thingie. you might want to check and try it out.

Re: are voip calls really for free??

Hmm, sounded kind of creepy to me initially. Like it's a three way call since they call us, we pick up, and then they call the number we want to reach. I also notice that it's not really free, but costs 2 cents per minute for long distance in the US. Would you agree that one down side is that it's more for just saving a bit on your long distance since you'd have to keep your landline or cell phone to use it anyway? Compared to the 40 or 50 dollars a month (with a mobile or landline) to use that beta service for its 2 cents a minute long distance; I prefer my voip provider, where I can make unlimited calls in the us, caller id, voicemail, and so on for about 15 dollars a month.

Re: are voip calls really for free??

not really. I did actually try it and it's kinda cool for dial up users. I never had to install or download anything. Just picked up the phone and there. These kinds of things are really thrilling when you're on dial up. :) anyway, try it out. check out their QoS.

Re: are voip calls really for free??

Typically, only PC to PC VoIP calls are truly unlimited and free. This is because they completely bypass the traditional telephone company's land-lines by using the internet as the transmission medium. Any situation where a call is terminated onto a land-line will have some kind of an extra fee, because the telcos can impose this on anyone using their lines. Large VoIP providers like Vonage just charge a flat rate per month to residential users because most residentials don't place a high number of calls. But often the contract will have a fine print clause that states they can charge penalties if going over a certain amount of minutes per month.
