What's a good voip speed?
How do you know if your voip speed test results will be good enough to have a good voip phone connection? Is that based solely off the quality of service score?

Yes, QOS (quality of service) score is one factor. It is also based on upload/download speeds, round trip time, max pause time, latency, packet loss, and jitter. Generally, you just want to make sure your upload speed is 100k plus another 30k for a good margin in case you're doing uploading while talking (more is better) and your QOS score should be 90% plus, although 75% should be acceptable. What is your score?

My QoS is between 44% and 50%,though other factors are good.Whats the best way for good voice quality within this range of QoS.

Gerrard, For a good, uncompressed VoIP connection you need 80k of unencumbered bandwidth. What that means is that while your computer is uploading/downloading emails or whatever other internet activity is going on, there still needs to be at least 80k. If at any point there is less than 80k, your voice will begin to breakup. How well you manage your bandwidth is much more important than the total amount you have. For example, your PC has little regard for any other PC or device that may need internet access. If you move a 5 Meg file, the PC will attempt to use all available bandwidth for the duration of the file transfer. During that period your voice quality will degrade. Make sure the VoIP adapter you get can manage bandwidth and that your provider knows how to configure it. As an alternative, if your have a QOS setting in your router, set the Ethernet port connected to your adapter to the highest priority setting and the rest of the ports to the lowest priority setting. All that said, I've seen it work very well correctly configuredt with upload speeds as low as 100k and very poorly configured incorrectly at 512k. Configured correctly, 128k should be sufficient.
