I've tried Skype (I can hear the caller but the caller barely hears me - choppy, dropping, delay, etc ) and I'm hesitant to try the variety of VOIP services listed because of the bad experience I had with this. The problem seems to be that my upload rates are horrendous. The Voip test shows the following:
Download speed: 508 Kbps
Upload speed: 36.6 Kbps
Quality of service: 24 %
Round trip time: 22 ms
Max pause: 1295 ms
Jitter: 164.6 ms
Packet loss: 0.0 %
Route hops: 18
I'd really like to use a phone online (USB phone or regular phone) and reduce my long distance (US) and int'l call fees, but I'm stuck with a Hughes/Direcway satelite internet service or dialup (there's no cable,DSL, etc here, we're rural).
Am I on the right horse - is the problem my upload speed?
Does anyone know 1) how I can remedy this or 2) which service out there works with poor satelite and/or dialup to produce carefree operation of phone calls?
Really looking for a solution - thanks.
