Top 4 ways to troubleshoot your VoIP Problems
1) Test you Internet connection (VoIP Speed Tester) – Your Internet connection is often the single most important thing that affects whether or not you can have VoIP and good quality VoIP calls. In general it takes a minimum of 90 kbps upload/download to have good VoIP call quality. Take the VoIP test to see how your Internet connection stacks up. Click here to take the VoIP Speed Tester. If your results from the VoIP speed test are not good try powering down your modem and check all the wiring and cable connections and then power on your modem. If this does not help – contact your Internet provider for help and more information. 2) Power cycle down your modem, ATA (VoIP device), router – If you took the VoIP Speed Test and passed with flying colors then the problem lies somewhere else. Next turn power off your modem, router and ATA (VoIP device). Let a minute or two pass. Now turn on your modem, ATA (VoIP device), router but in the proper order. You should turn on your modem first and let 2 minutes go by to fully be up and running. Next turn on the equipment next in line that connects directly to the modem (could be the router or ATA device). Finally turn on the last equipment in line. 3) Contact your VoIP provider - They will be able to make adjustments to your ATA device to improve call quality. 4) Update the firmware on your router - Do this by looking up the manufacturer of your router and going to their site and following their directions to update your firmware.

Re: Top 4 ways to troubleshoot your VoIP Problems

Eric, I'm a new user of Cordia in White Plains, NY. Things worked fine there. Currently I'm in Bangalore, India. According to Cordia, I should be able to use the phone adapter they have provided any where with a DSL or Broadband connection. I'm using 256K internet access from Airtel provided here thru phone line. I performed the speed test and it's satisfactory. However, I don't get dial tone. I'm using a Beetel 220BX ADSL2+modem. and connecting directly to the Linksys Analog Phone adapter provided by Cardia , without using a router. What's the problem? Can you help? Thanks ............ Sheel PS: Are there any users in India facing this problem?

Static IP

Hi! I used to have the same problem before. I am using my VOIP in Asia, I dont have any dial tone for few days. My VOIP company could not give me exact solution, so  I did call my internet provider and check if they are compatible with VOIP, they told me that i have dynamic ip so I could not use it, it should be changed to STATIC ip, but getting static ip would cost alot. Goodthing, I was checking for other VOIP and ask if they can still offer service outside Europe, I'm glad they can and I did not change anything on my dynamic ip. The technician from Nomado Telecom is really great and he really knew what he's doing.

Sheel, what has Cordia told you? Have you tried power-cycling the devices in the correct order? Do you know if your ISP is blocking the ports used by VoIP?

5) Undo the last change you made to your network firewall - Remember when you told the Firewall to block all ports greater than 1000? You might want to undo that now. As an addendum to #1 above. I would suggest your calculate the bandwidth consumed by the maximum expected concurrent calls, as well as account for a typical bandwidth consumed by upload/downloads from the internet. Make sure your internet connection is sized for the current staff you employ.
