Do a ping test form the command prompt type ping yahoo.com -n 80 then hit your enter key, you will get results on packets sent recieved and lost also min and max and average times in ms anything near 100 means you have latency on the line and that will affect your calls causing choppy calls and also lost words or sentences. voip depends on the quality of your internet connection.

I am new to all this. My friend suggested "magicjack". I am usually very careful and check things out but... Anyway I have verizon dsl, the cheapest one, the slowest. I did the ping test and here are my resultsPing statistics for 68.180.206.184:    Packets: Sent = 80, Received = 80, Lost = 0 (0% loss),Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:    Minimum = 109ms, Maximum = 123ms, Average = 116ms I do not know what it all means. I did read somewhere that for best results the upload should be around 500. Mine is like 140. I was wondering if I pay for a faster DSL  package if that would make a difference? Perhaps I should scrap this whole thing and try another VoiP service? Verizon would be 3meg and comcast 6 if I try and change before canceling the thing. Right now I ahve I think 1. What is your opinion? thanks, i
